Subject: Finally! An index to my songbooks From: Joe Offer Date: 29 Aug 98 - 04:31 AM I've been getting sick and tired of pulling down five songbooks off the shelf every time I want to find a song. So, tonight I got motivated and started a database index of all my songbooks. I got halfway through the index of Lomax's "Folk Songs of North America," and I got tired. I decided to see if there might be an online list of the songs in this book. Well, I found something better than that. Here's the welcoming blurb: Welcome to the UTK Song Index (click here). This is a publicly available database providing access to citations for about 50,000 songs in more than 1,400 published song anthologies owned by the George F. DeVine Music Library at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.Well, I guess designing my database was good practice.... -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Finally! An index to my songbooks From: Wolfgang Date: 22 Sep 98 - 08:59 AM Thanks for the links, Joe. I started that work 20 years ago (indexing my songbooks and my records), after not finding the lyrics to one song for about half an hour when I knew I had them. But alas, the index is still on paper and that makes the search difficult (Irish girl, brave Irish girl, bold Irish girl, young Irish girl?...Oh I see, The Irish Lass). Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: Finally! An index to my songbooks From: Joe Offer Date: 10 Sep 99 - 07:20 PM I'm wondering if any new songbook indices have come online since I started this thread a year ago. UTK is supposed to upgrade its service soon, but it's already a great tool -Joe Offer- |
