Subject: RE: Bellamy/Kipling song about Drake From: GUEST Date: 15 Jun 05 - 07:04 PM I believe that Kipling was long dead before Peter Bellamy began performing (or perhaps was even born) - it is sincerely doubtful they recorded together. |
Subject: RE: Bellamy/Kipling song about Drake From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 15 Jun 05 - 07:48 PM True, not contemporaries at all. But Bellamy was wonderful at putting many of Kipling's songs to music. And I say "songs", because that's what Kipling called them, even though there was no music specified. Dave Oesterreich |
Subject: RE: Bellamy/Kipling song about Drake From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 15 Jun 05 - 09:38 PM Song from the short story "Simple Simon," in the book "Rewards and Fairies," by Kipling. A link to the etext has been put in thread 11594, linked above by Mick Pearce. |
Subject: RE: Bellamy/Kipling song about Drake From: Jeri Date: 16 Jun 05 - 05:55 PM So, does anyone know of a recording? I might possibly have it on a recording, maybe by Peter Bellamy (NOT "Wake the Vaulted Echoes") or maybe John Roberts & Tony Barrand ("Naquathingie Redux"), but the recordings are hiding from me at the moment. Mudcatter Barry Finn does a powerful version of this song. |
Subject: RE: Bellamy/Kipling song about Drake From: GUEST,Allen Date: 16 Jun 05 - 06:03 PM It's on Bellamy's Merlin's Isle of Grammaree, I believe. Roberts and Barrand's record is called Naulakha Redux, Naulakha being the Hindi word for fortune (or jewel, memory's bit foggy at the mo) which is what Kipling named his home. |
