Subject: Lyr Req: I'm Going Courting -- Music Hall song? From: GUEST,Doug Olsen Date: 18 Oct 05 - 08:11 PM Does anyone recall a song with the beginning "I'm going courting, are you coming with me? For courting's a thing that I can't do alone" sung to a lovely little waltz melody? All I can remember are the first two lines and it's driving me nuts! To my astonishment, Google is no help. Here's hoping the Mudcat can succeed where Google cannot. Thanks. Doug Olsen Oak Ash & Thorn |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm Going Courting -- Music Hall song? From: GUEST,Doug Olsen Date: 21 Oct 05 - 08:48 PM Well, the tune does have a certain similarity to the genuine (i think) folk song "Game of Cards." But I don't believe the noble peasantry and honest yeomen of Merrie Olde would have been caught *dead* singing "There's love on the highway, if you're going my way". Sure wish I could find the whole thing, tho. thanks for your line -- now I've got three! doug |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm Going Courting -- Music Hall song? From: GUEST,Richard Patching Date: 03 Jun 10 - 01:23 PM If I recall correctly, the chorus is: "Oh, I'm going courtin', are you comin' with me For courtin's at thing that your can't do alone, There's love on the highway, if you will walk my way, Come courtin' with me and I'll call you my own" I remember the tune of the chorus well. My eldest brother had a lot of Kenneth McKellar and Andy Stewart records back in the 60's. I have looked on everything I can find of Kenneth McKellar - nothing. I hadn't thought of Andy. If you're looking for obscure records, CDConnections.com has a wide variety of old stuff (Jazz, English Music Hall and the like. Good luck |
Subject: ADD: I'm Going Courting From: GUEST,Stephen Macdonald Date: 10 Feb 11 - 11:46 PM Here's the entire song: I'M GOING COURTING Chorus: Now I'm goin' courtin' are you comin' with me? For courtin's a thing that I can't do alone There's love on the highway if you will walk my way Come courtin' with me and I'll call you my own I know a young man who's in love with a lassie Who live in a cottage that's not far away When stars shine out brightly, he comes calling nightly And then to his lassie he softly will say Chorus The lassie's as bonnie as ever a lassie You'd meet in your travels wherever you'd roam She's neat and she's sweet and he loves her completely But Och! She's determined on staying at home Chorus Some night when he's gone on his sad way and lonely I'll leave by the backdoor, you wan't hear a thing Till I come close by her, and then I will try her, With love from my own heart, I softly will sing Chorus (repeat) Come courtin' with me and I'll call you my own.
