Subject: Lyr Add: THE JANUARY JUNE (Les Barker)^^ From: Wolfgang Date: 20 Jan 99 - 03:18 PM Here's the lyrics to a Les Barker gem, but if you really want to enjoy it, hear June Tabor singing it on "Gnus and Roses" Mrs. Ackroyd records DOG 010 ( click here to find more information or to buy it) Wolfgang
THE JANUARY JUNE
The January June she walks abroad
In April, it's the Easter Tree;
In July, the July June she hums a tune
The June of new October's wearing black
And the January June comes round again |
Subject: RE: ADD: The January June From: Wolfgang Date: 20 Jan 99 - 03:30 PM I can spot a couple of songs titles in that parody, I guess I have overlooked several more. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: The January June (parody by Les Barker) From: GUEST Date: 15 Apr 14 - 06:49 PM I hadn't realised that June had recorded it herself - despite suggestions to the contrary she does have a sense of humour ! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: The January June (parody by Les Barker) From: GUEST,Malcolm Storey Date: 15 Apr 14 - 06:59 PM Knowing Les fairly well, I don't think he would have bothered writing the song unless he could get June to sing it - and yes - she does have a sense of humour, ask Alan Bell! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: The January June (parody by Les Barker) From: Leadfingers Date: 15 Apr 14 - 08:28 PM There is a real DEPTH of feeling in the simple phrase 'Les Barker you'r a bastard' ! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: The January June (parody by Les Barker) From: Musket Date: 16 Apr 14 - 07:48 AM The late lamented Tony Capstick used to sing Les's parody of him "Mr Punch and Judy Man" as a badge of honour. A few years ago when I last saw June in concert, she referred to Les as one of the most exciting lyric writers of the moment for his serious work, and then sang "The turn of the road." It is on her Against the Streams" album, one of her finer works. |
