Subject: Les Barker - Heart Op
From: GUEST,Cally
Date: 08 Sep 08 - 03:25 PM

Les has had his bypass operation today in Liverpool and everything has gone as planned. No problems and he should be able to go to the ward from Intensive Care tomorrow.

It says in the instruction manual he must be strictly supervised when he is discharged.

I too wish him the best of speedy recoveries and wonder if, as he'll be having time on his hands, he's prepared to give consideration to situations which might be troubling us, and offer advice?

Personally, I am perplexed by something that arose in Stackpole recently. I got into a conversation with women sitting next to me as we awaited Les' appearance on the stage at the Stackpole Centre. It's usually an oudoor pursuit centre which might explain the humungous moth stretching it's wings over the stage. (We're talkin' Japanese B-movie sci-fi here. It was Big.) Anyway, we got to wondering why many moths come out at night, why do they then make immediately for your lightbulbs? We hypothesized that, when God was handing out stuff in the Creation (nod in the direction of Ms Palin), maybe the moths were goofing off so they drew permanent night shift.

Or not.

Les obviously knows a lot about fireflies and such, so maybe he can offer advice on moths?

Perhaps others here have conundrums which are gnawing at the back of their brain boxes which Les might sort out while he's 'at leisure'.

Many thanks,

sian

One theory is that moths navigate by moonlight, and electric lights confuse them. There's more to it than that (it's to do with phototaxis), but, basically, that's it.

Once he's discharged, Les will be recuperating with friends in south Wales. He'll be well looked after.

All the best, Les.

Today's update

Les is fully awake and all is well but he is very tired. He has been moved from intensive care to Ward D Cardiothoracic Unit Bromsgrove Hospital

If you want to send greetings it is more effective to send an e message on this web page
http://www.rlbuht.nhs.uk/for_patients/In_patient_greeting_service.asp

as he will be discharged at the weekend and things go astray when forwarded.

The answer to question 4 is 61

More tomorrow

Desmond Carrington played Sarah Kenedy reciting "Sprouts Are Not Meant to be Eaten" and gave a big plug to Les and Guide Cats for the Blind on his Radio 2 programme this evening.

That makes more sense, Cally- I was wondering for what reason he would have been transferred from Liverpool all the way down here to Worcestershire...!!

Positive thoughts for speedy healing winging their way to Broadgreen.

Cally.
If you've got any sense, you'd leave him there!!!
What did you do in a previous life to deserve this?
Seriously, I'm so glad that the Op went well.
There aren't many diamond geezers like Les around nowadays.
It's just a shame that you've got to put up with him now!!!
Please send him my best wishes
Ralph Jordan

It's that comparatively healthy hospital diet.

And 3 cheers to Cally for looking after him.

Get well soon, but give yourself time to recover before diving in at the deep end again.

We all Luv you

Just tell him to start "slowly waving a Shi Tzu through the air" and work his way through a sausage dog up to a St Bernard.
I had a Heart attack in 2002, only ended up with stents, but have run 5Km about three times (on a good week) since about 9 months after it.
Good Luck there Les, JohnB

kendall and jacqui may have some advice..
seems like there was mention of a pillow
to hug when coughing. or laughing..

brings to mind the saying of "keeping
them in stitches" which in this case
should be keeping them stitches in"...

Thank you, Cally, for all your good work. there's a genuine Midwest Purebred #$@!-reduction candle going for the both of you whenever I'm at home. (Now if we can just get the U.S. Federal government sorted out so he can come over to Old Songs Folk Festival again sometime).

So I read "...the French claim Les is a plural". Does that prove the French haven't learned to count? I hope the age of this thread means Les(truly singular) has gotten to going great guns & wowed his docs & caregivers with the speed & thoroughness of his recovery. This is selfish. His ability to practice his art is essential to the well-being of MANY of us. Tw

He is very economical with his voice these days, makes the audience do all the work (or is it that we won't let him get a word in!)
