Rides to the Getaway from the DC area? Two folks have approached me about rides to the Getaway, but we are full up with Micca and Catsphiddle.

Can anyone give a ride to a mudcatter or two from DC to the Getaway?

Good lord, I should have reviewed this thread BEFORE mailing my check in.

I was envisioning a mellow weekend of swapping songs and tunes, sipping an ale or two, with a few folks I've been corresponding with but have never actually met, and some other folks that I've had the pleasure to meet while wandering this earth.

Looks like Barry Finn and his wife Justine will be traveling with me to this gathering.

Good thing we'll have the van so we can bring extra foul weather gear, and extra banjos for those who need them for protection.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

OK ladies - if you're in on the Saturday night production number can you please let me know and tell me if you have your costume sorted out.

SINS - I've found a load more stuff for the Getaway. Are we going to have enough car space to get it all there? I'd hate not to take all of it.

Just a thought, Terry.....you could offer to transport Jacqui's "instruments." If the guitar cases are locked and you cannot be held responsible for their contents, you could avoid traitor status and achieve leniency as well.....just a thought.....

Just a couple of notes for you old timers>

If you remember back a couple of years ago (2003) a young girl named Elizabeth LaPrelle sang and stunned the group with her rendition of Appalachian ballads sung with her mother (right as the movie Songcatcher came out). Also portion of the Soup Kitchen showed up at the Getaway to sing a few songs. Well both of them just finished a series of gigs at the Center of the Known Universe, Shepherdstown, WV for our annual Appalachian Folk festival and both put the crowds away. I had a little time with Elizabeth's father who told me she is in college (forget where) and has been singing up a storm with gigs through November. Well you heard her at the Getaway first.

See you there!

Yes, and John LaPrelle will come too, IF he can get a ride back to somewhere near Rural Retreat, VA on Sunday so's he can get to work on Monday. (Sandy is going on to Philly after the Getaway.) Any ideas for a ride for John?

For those of you who are new to the Getaway, Elizabeth is a marvelous singer of Appalachian ballads (well, so is Sandy LaPrelle for that matter, and she'll be at the Getaway).

Elizabeth has has a gig every single weekend since about the middle of August, she is starting at William & Mary as a freshman, and she has a really bad cold & sore throat right now. Getting to the Getaway was just not in the cards this year. We'll miss her!

Claymore, I am excited that (a) it looks as if you'll be at the Getaway and (b) you're a member now, so we can PM you instead of having to phone you at work. Good-oh!

Rita F

Howdy, wonderful folk

Just checking in - I'm wearing my Getaway Registrar hat here.

I just wanted to say that I *won't* be checking in here for any information regarding the Getaway, so please don't PM me here hoping to get a response. One person lucked out that I had logged in to say I wouldn't be logging in...

I love and adore you all, but if I spend my time playing in the threads, I will NEVER get all the pertinent info into the FSGW database! My [direct] contact information is available on all the Getaway documentation, so please use that to reach me with any registration-specific questions.

I am so looking forward to seeing all the wonderful people who are coming this year. I have always loved this event and as far as I'm concerned it just gets better every year.

Peace, hugs and much more music,

JudyO/momnopp

This duplicates my post on the Getaway Program Information thread. It's important enuf that I want to make sure as many people see it as possible. Please reply on this thread

Okay, THE SCHEDULE (draft) IS ON LINE.

Saturday Grid

Sunday Grid

Workshop leaders, we want you to tell us if you are scheduled opposite a must-see workshop. We'll try to "fix it."

Everybody, tell us where your worst conficts are. We'll try to fix it if enough people holler ouch. (It's one of those things where sometimes the cure can be worse than the disease, so we're careful about making changes.)

Last year a few people suggested that the Getaway would be less hectic (and frustrating) if we had a bit fewer workshops and let them go on longer so more people could participate. We are trying that this year.

Workshop leaders are listed pretty much in the order in which they were signed up to lead the workshop. (Sometimes that's just a matter of who was home to answer the phone when we first called.)

Let us know what you think. (Oh, yes, this is the Mudcat.... Of course you will!)

Rita

Now that's the blues, fir sure...

But the blues ain't nuthin but yer trials and yer tribulations so I guess it's fittin' to have this poor ol' hillbilly havin' to sit alone in the barn theater playin' 12 bar solitaire whilst the entire Getaway is svorin' Kendall's stories...

Makes me wanta go AWOL myself...

Woke up this mornin'
Absolutley nuthin' in my house
Yeah, woke up this mornin'
Lord, nuthin' in my house
'Cept a note that read
"Don't fret, Hey, I left yer mouse..."

Now that's the blues..

Ain't evenm got no cheeze fir the mouse...

Now he got the blues too..

Putting the Helen workshop on the same time as anything else is dangerous. I'd like to hear a George Papavgeris mini-concert. There's a good chunk of Sunday where I want to be everywhere. Where I end up may have more to do with inertia than anything else. And you have "The Three Eens" (CollEEN & NorEEN KEENe) on back to back, which is cool because they both do ballads. I'm glad Colleen Cleveland is going to be there!

Nevermind...

Come on by, do what you gonna do.... Jus' no stink bombs, thankee...

Yeah, Amos, come on by... I'll be the guy leadin' a blues workshop of, ahhh, one whilst the entire takes-a-villiage is off gogglin' at Kendall...

Hey, I know when I've been had but...

...HARK... seems that my portestations have found a sympathethic ear and so I've been offered a mini-concert which is scheduled fir a half an hour on the Tuesday afternoon after the Getaway at any place of my choice!!!

Sniff... An I thought the powers-at-be weren't sensitive...

But never mind my dribble...

If you play some blues 'er just want to hear some, split yer time between the Theater and Kendall and you'll get the real deal from both of us...

Did Bearded Bruce say he is or isn't attending and why not?!? I don't think anyone should accept candy from a man who isn't even willing to be there when you eat it.
So bruce...in or out?
SINS

Countdown continues. Just got off the phone with Tinker who has filled MaryLou in on our "plans" for the Big Mick. She had some suggestions herself. HEH HEH

Well Sinsull, Bruce has a VERY difficult work schedule. (I think he tracks the space station or something, and has to be there to make corrections and check the data gathering. Something like that anyway.) To hear him tell it, it's pretty boring all-night work. But there aren't a whole lot of people who can do it and the schedule is absolutely inflexible, so he doesn't get to choose his hours.) So I think we should cut him some slack.

By the way folks....as of now..(SAT, the 8th)the weather predictions for Getaway weekend are looking better all the time! It says mid 70s daytime, and mid 50s at night...and sunshine. Yeah, yeah.....we know it could change, but it does not look like VERY chilly nights!

This could be the year we luck out!
