Flamenco Ted a bitter sting at the swarm of Elvis fervour buzzing around at the moment.Do I take it you are not enamoured by the most successful entertainer in the history of popular music? Please allow me to educate you on the finer points of why so many people around the world look upon Elvis as a beacon of hope, a guiding light in a world too tempered in darkness to show compassion for the weak, respect for elderly, or even guidance to the young. Back in the austere post war 1950s;money was tight, the outlook was tentatively hopeful and the young looked up to authority with blind faith but no real focus to unite them. Then, like a thunderbolt from above, a movement emerged called Rock and Roll. It was not just music,it was not just fashion and /or style, it was not preaching at anyone or seeking to control anybody. It just said, in no uncertain terms, if it feels good do it! No matter what the "squares" say or do.By luck or divine intervention, or as some say an inherent prodigious talent. A twenty one year old, trainee electrician, from the real definition of abject poverty, took the crazy decision to give up his simple humble safe existence and fire the furnace that within months dominated the sound and vision facilities of the whole wide world. This boy was vilified and despised by the establishment and suffered unspeakable acts of hatred from his fellow god fearing, flag waving, true Americans! But, and here is the point; he didn't give in and move to Mexico he "suffered the slings and arrows" and emerged, in the fickle world of entertainment, "The King" - this was not, as in Michael Jacksons' or Little Richards case, self bestowed. It was an act of respect and admiration (unwanted and mocked by the boy) proclaimed and reitterated by the media for almost 50 years. This act alone leads one to believe; in the face of great adversity, there is always hope. As Elvis once sang, with a fervent passion that other singers could only derive solace from, "If I Can Dream" and for millions around the world it is so much more than a dream it is the feeling of love and humility that took a boy from a two roomed shotgun shack in Tupelo to Graceland and made him a legend. He united a generation and gave it a voice and inspired The Beatles, Dylan, Morrison, etc. etc. etc. and still had time to reflect decades after the goldrush. Unless you are totally bereft of intelligence this "decent, fine, boy" deserves respect and an acknowledgement that not only did he do it first- he did it better than anyone could have predicted. Thank you for your time and patience I will look forward to your more reasoned perspective.

Regards.

Sidewinder.

Went to see some friends perform the other night, Margueritas; they do folk/country whatever accoustic. They did a fabulously slow version of "Viva Los Vegas" which determined me that I would start reworking some of those songs to please myself. Of course its been done before - I love Holmes Bros "Mystery Train" among others. I'm now on the journey of songs Elvis has done and artists who've re-interpreted them since, not before (Elvis did 'em). I suppose he'll be forever making a comeback if the songs that he did become referential to him when other people do them. Come on, start the list of Elvis songs that others do, and why you like 'em?

Reference Jim Semple comments ....couldn't agree more with you regarding your "past caring" comment. It seems you've got more chance of locating a top class elvis impersonator than actually finding a record or cd in the shops ! ( i.e no chance) I've been a fairly active buyer on e-bay for Elvis stuff over the past couple of years but am disgusted at the profiteering going on and would call upon all fans to do exactly what I intend to do which is refuse to buy the stuff from them. As long as there are desperate fans prepared to pay silly money (and I can fully understand why) these characters will carry on and all we're doing if we buy off them is encouraging it. I guess I'm being unduly optimistic but given the outpouring of negative comments from fans on various sites I think action will be taken. I did see a suggestion on one site yesterday that BMG had been in contact with e-bay regarding this matter. It would be great to see these sellers stopped and some sanity restored...here's hoping

Glenny boy wrote on January 25, 2005: report abuse
Even so pop pickers i bet we never thought that 28 years later our boy would still be riding the charts and causing queues at record shops hey!!!! Still we'd all give it up to have him back here.

Jim Semple wrote on January 25, 2005: report abuse
Anybody daft enough to cure up at 5.30am, can only be hardcore Ebay sellers.

Shaky wrote on January 25, 2005: report abuse
With 35,000 copies available we should not be getting this chaotic situation again this week???

My Local area:

Virgin had people cue-ing up since 5.30am in Walsall

Woolworths in Dudley had 9 copies - sold out in first 5 mins

HMV had 20 copies - all pre-ordered

ASDA in Oldbury had 4 Copies - all reserved!

How can we get Elvis back to No.1 again if everyone you talk to is not getting the single because they CAN'T find it on the shelves.

stu wrote on January 25, 2005: report abuse
DEREKD I went into my local Woolies for AFSAI. When asked for the single, they too could not find the sleeve!! What sort of scam are these retailers up to?

Glenny boy wrote on January 25, 2005: report abuse
Jim Semple youve hit the nail on the head ive driven miles and taken days off what a farce, 40 years a fan and still BMG just dont care .Release them again I say, follow me people lets go get them, BMG i mean not the singles!! SORT IT OUT BMG please

MauriceinIreland wrote on January 25, 2005: report abuse
"It's Now or Never", was a Milestone release back in 1960 it was a huge hit which won over a lot of Elvis's critics. I remember all the old people buying it! I was eighteen:-)
A press release website based in India is keeping a positive Elvis story at the top of google Elvis news. Please help keep it there. When you have read every page on this excellent website of course. Meanwhile. Business is taking care of Elvis.

Don't give up!! There are 35,000 copies of It's Now or Never cd single, that is 15,000 more than origonally planned. How many fans are there?? Do we need 40,000?? Do we need 50,000?? Everyone email BMG and let them know. Also email BBC and any media people you know to make a big deal about this. The extra singles will reduce the price on EBAY, and the retailers will stop scamming. Once the price on EBAY tapers off, later singles will not be hi-jacked.

I am in total agreement with Rita, i too had no hope of getting Its now or never yesterday, like she said what about those of us who can't get to the stores til after lunch because of work and children, it is totally unfair.....i couldn't get the CD or the vinyl yesterday and last week came away empty handed too...i am so disappointed, i was looking forward to collecting this set but there is just no hope!I feel that Sony/BMG are totally unfair to us fans by not providing enough copies.

I'll probably get shot for saying this, but I've gone past caring now ! I feel mentally drained driving miles, searching stores and what for at the end of the day ! Im continually empty handed like virtually everyone else. Plus, no radio play, no footage, think I'll stick to my own collection from now on. BMG / Sony / EPE, should be ashamed of this pitiful performance. I can understand a shortfall for Jailhouse Rock, being the very first one, but have lessons been learnt since - have they f**k !!.
