Subject: Tech: Fret spacing for 3 string Diatonic instr From: HiHo_Silver Date: 06 Sep 08 - 12:09 PM I am interested in crafting a 3 string instrument such as the strum stick just as a hobby project through the long winter nights. Would appreciate any advice and particularly information on the fret spacing for a diatonic instrument such as this. Is there a formula on how the spacing is determined in relation to neck lenth etc. Perhaps there are plans available somewhere, I have done quite extensive searching but have been unable to find very much detailed information on this. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Fret spacing for 3 string Diatonic instr From: bigchuck Date: 06 Sep 08 - 12:18 PM The fret spacing would be the same as for a Dulcimer and would depend on the scale length of the instrument. I suspect google search on dulcimer construction and specifications would answer your question. Sandy |

I've seen a lot of sazes, and never one done that way - the action is normally far too low for such a thick fret not to buzz. I'd guess it was made for the "tourists will buy anything" market. |
