Subject: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: Crane Driver Date: 26 Aug 02 - 06:45 PM Just a note to let all you genteel and long-suffering North-East 'Catters know that Hurricane Baggyrinkle is forecast to strike Hull on Saturday 31 August (with the emphasis on the "gust"). It's the 13th annual International Shanty Festival (you knew that), and we'll be at the Marina. Don't know where, don't know when, they never tell me anything. Other performers include Stormalong John, John Conolly, Johnny Collins (Hmmm, is there a theme here?), and it will be a wonderful, raucous weekend of song (it says on the tin). One thing worries me - Wil comeing too Hul nakur mi speling9 Andrew |

Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: Les from Hull Date: 26 Aug 02 - 07:23 PM I've had a word with Scottie in the Minerva today (as I was conducting Bill Sables and Joe Offer round the Hull non-Spanish three-quarters) and he's happy for any non-concert goers to sing/play there on Saturday night. Also, for anyone coming on Friday, they can see the excellent Punch the Horse at Dirty Nellies in High Street featuring local Mudcatters Ossonflags, Oakley and Deanmeister, and (almost certainly) have 'sume bear' and a bit of a sing and play in the heavily-adjacent Black Boy pub, where we're moving our regular Friday night session to accomodate you all. I'll confirm this later when I've seen the landlord (but the barman says he's pretty sure it'll be OK, and we do session there regularly anyway). |

Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: Oaklet Date: 27 Aug 02 - 01:47 AM The 350 Omnibus will be discharging Mrs Oaklet, Vic the builder and I in the Spanish Quarter at high noon. Can anyone with leadership skills, please suggest a venue for the Hull Mudcatter's power lunch to save me from slapping a bit of tongue into a flowery bap the night before. Have returned safely by the the way, without major incident and without Skipjack's puncture wounds. |
Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: Abuwood Date: 27 Aug 02 - 03:21 AM HullENSIANS of the world unite, see you in the Black Boy guys, a few Shellbacks are heading in that direction Friday. The only Nellies I know is in Beverley, how will I find the other one? |
Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: GUEST,ossonflags Date: 27 Aug 02 - 03:49 AM For all those who do not know were the Durty nellies is in 'ull, it is at the start of the high street, west end, very near to the black boy. On a good day you can hear that excellant band,p the h, with its sooooooooooo coooool lead singer,in said Black Boy,when they are performing in Durty Nellies. Punch the Horse start peforming at 9.00pm on the fri.night all welcome. Come early as the Oakley thigh worshippers tend to take up all the room. |
Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: GUEST,Oakley Date: 27 Aug 02 - 04:28 AM Does anyone know if Ms Penelope Routledge is coming to either event? I find myself thinking about her a lot. |
Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: Skipper Jack Date: 27 Aug 02 - 06:42 AM If you don't fancy the "Black Boy Punching the Horse at Durty Nellies!". Why not come to The White Hart where there be an informal session with guests as a festival warm up. It is a free night and there will be a raffle, the proceeds of which will go the RNLI.

Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: Michael in Swansea Date: 27 Aug 02 - 09:55 AM I can't go. This will be the second time I've missed in 11 years. Miserable Moping Melancholy Michael

Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: Les from Hull Date: 27 Aug 02 - 10:34 AM Oakers old chap, you'll want the Minerva (at the Pier). Lovely comestibles available (which got the Joe Offer/Bill Sables seal of approval yesterday) and a major venue for the afternoon's festivities. And there's a specially brewed ale available in case any of you can be forced into having sume bear. By the way, the Minerva is not in the Spanish Quarter, it's in what we call the Non-Spanish Three-Quarters. Skipper Jack - there's two White Harts in the Old Town - The Olde White Harte on Silver Street and The White Hart on Alfred Gelder Street (near to Drypool Bridge which crosses the River Hull). Can you confirm which it is? All the pubs mentioned for Friday night are only five minutes apart (ten seconds between Durty Nellies and the Black Boy). So that's it then Durty Nellies for thigh-worshippers, afficionados of the golden tonsils of Ossonflags and people who collect broken guitar strings; Black Boy for a general session including songs and tunes, and the White Hart for an informal shanty session. |
Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: Michael in Swansea Date: 27 Aug 02 - 10:49 AM Upstairs in The Black Boy 1992 my first time in 'Ull. Remember it well. Wasn't that drunk :>) Miserable Moping Melancholy Michael :-( |
Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: ossonflags Date: 27 Aug 02 - 11:27 AM I just thought it worth a mention that andy watson also plays with p the h,you cant mistake him, he is the one with the accordian and the soooooo handsome features. Just needed to make a mention of andy now and again, andy like me is a little shy and retiring and thighs oakley seems to have the need to grab all the limelight with his shameless self promotion. |
Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: GUEST,Oakley Date: 27 Aug 02 - 11:36 AM Power Lunch at the Minerva from high noon onwards it is then. Drinks on Les. |
Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: Linda Kelly Date: 27 Aug 02 - 12:19 PM Sorry to see you won't be there Michael -will you be at the Captain Cook Festival Whitby? I don't know if I can cope with Oakley's thighs on Friday and I am unfortunately working on Saturday - so I shall try and persuade the lovely Hazlet to attend on Sunday for two voice singing. |
Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: Skipper Jack Date: 27 Aug 02 - 12:21 PM Les From Hull It's The White Hart in Alfred Gelder Street. I wish I could get around to the other pubs, it sounds like fun. Dave R. "The Baggies"

Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: Crane Driver Date: 29 Aug 02 - 06:07 PM Well, this is it. Setting off tomorrow (is that termerrer in 'Ulleese?) - they say the road to Hull is paved with good intentions, so it should be easy enough to spot (unless we've still got the same navigator as on our Brittany trip - our next CD should be called "Perdu en Brest", which probably means what it sounds like in 'Ull). See you all then, except for the ones who aren't there (that's Welsh logic for you). Andrew |

Subject: RE: Baggyrinkle - To Hull & Back From: Skipper Jack Date: 02 Sep 02 - 02:35 PM Well that's it! "Hull Sea Fever" over for another year. Wasn't it a lovely morning on Sunday? Although Scottie did his Romeo & Juliet act from the upstairs room at the Minerva, he refused to open until noon. But The Baggies and Johnny Collins serenaded the passing crowds under the spreading chestnut tree. (Maybe it wasn't a chestnut??) It was thoroughly enjoyable until the clock twelve! Then the stampede for the bar!! We carried on where we left off, inside. Anyway another great festival, good weather, good singing especially from the mudcatters. Willa, enjoyed your renditions at The Minerva and in the Victorian Bar, City Hall. Our expedition with "Lord Nelson" took us to performing outside Ann Summers in the shopping precinct. But we weren't allowed to go inside!! We - The Baggies and Kat yn 't Seil enjoyed that little session. It was hard to ascertain whether the onlookers did? We like to think so? Here's to the next "Sea Fever Festival" may it become an epidemic!! Dave & The Baggies. |
