I've got the CD and can transcribe it if you don't find it, but look first, Okay?
Oh where can the John 'A' be?
Maybe the 'A's at sea...

Like that?
Blessings,
Barbara... though I suppose we should as 'our' Les if it's okay to post his songs, but I'm pretty sure we've done it before...

I have run this past Clive Lever who is organising a charity record project for BCAB (the British Computer Association for the Blind) of a set of Les Barker words performed by various stars and well known people (all of whom are donating their services).

The record will be out later this year

He says: -

"Hi Richard,

I do so wish I could join in the mudcat discussions. Are you sure you can't subscribe to the discussion list by sending an email to a given address e.g. 'mudcat-subscribe@whatever.com'? I'll definitely want to plug the Guide Cats for the Blind compilation CD there, or suggest to Richard Ellin (Osmosys Records) that he do so. You may wish to intimate that you know of an interesting Les Barker compilation due out in the summer. Among the tracks, Cyril Tawney has recorded his own 'Lassie Free and Easy'.

Meanwhile:

SLOOP JOHN A

We looked for the Sloop John A; We looked for it all day;
Round Nassau Town we did roam,
A man on the pier, Said it wasn't here;
We didn't find it, And then we went home.

Where can the John A be? Maybe the A's at sea;
We had a good look round, Then we went home.
Then we went home, We had to go home.
We didn't find it And then we went home.

The first mate was not there, Maybe he was elsewhere;
Maybe he was on board the Sloop John A;
Wherever he was, We didn't meet him because
We didn't find it, And then we went home.

Where can the John A be? Maybe the A's at sea;
We had a good look round, Then we went home,
Then we went home, We had to go home.
We didn't find it, And then we went home.

The day was a non-event, It seemed the A had went;
Then they told us that there's another called B.
B was OK; I had my heart set on A;
We didn't find it, And then we went home.

Where can the John A be? Maybe the A's at sea;
We had a good look round, Then we went home
Then we went home, We had to go home. I wanna go home.
We didn't find it, And then we went home.

Lyrics: Les Barker, published in 'Sitting With My Dog On Display'.
Recorded by David Knutsen on Tubular Dogs (catalogue no: Dog013)"

We looked for Les Barker's website;
We looked for it all day;
Round the Internet we did roam,
A man on the pier, said it wasn't here;
We didn't find it, And then we went home.

But thanks so very much for the song! ;~)

Every month or so Les updates his web-site and publishes two of his poems, one comical, one serious.
Up at present is My Husbands Got No Porrige In Him.
I keep going back to his site for the gems displayed within, and also to see his collection of "trains".
http://www.compulink.co.uk/~ackroyd/welcome.htm
Cant do the "Make a link" as my pooters browser has gone all peculiar & wont do links. Most annoying. Will have to take the back off & kick it when it aint looking.
Either that or purchase memory upgrade, get a geek in, buy decent virus prog or whatever.
Now, where did I put my really BIG hammer?

Ah, I see what the problem is....

mrsackroyd.com is an Email address - in which case someone better tell the site manager for the Mrs Ackroyd Band site, because that's where I lifted it from, under the impression it was Les' page.

If you have Outlook Express Email (newer versions) it will create new mail for you. If you don't, it will give you the error 101 page.

Mr Happy's link takes you to what I was trying to direct you to.
