Can anyone help? Where can I get hold of a copy of this Lonnie Donegan classic. I've searched for months but cannot find any of his discs with it on.

I can only remember that it was the "B" side of a single from about 1962. I used to have it - but no more!

Kingston Trio did Seven Golden Daffodils, would that do?
Speaking of Kingston Trio, trying to find complete set
of 'alternate' lyrics to Tie Me Kangaroo Down that included
such verses as "tan me hide when I'm dead Fred, Spread it
over her bed, Fred, tan me hide when I'm dead (boing,
boing, boing)"   Smothers Brothers spoofed it too, maybe.

Thanks Big Tim and Suzanne B for your input, can't say I've heard the Kingston version but it must be the same number, however you jogged my memory Tim, I had forgotten it was a B side.
I will just have to keep looking,

Cheers, John

I have it on a Pye LP of Lonnie's best or some such title. If you cant find a currently available CD, Wilbyhillbilly, get in touch and I'll see what I can do.

It was released on the golden hour series of albums,
(were they by Pye?), the copy I have is Lonnie Donegans golden hour
of golden hits volume two, the No is GH565, released in 1973.

Hope this helps you.

Good luck with your search.

Cattail !

P.S. I am in the UK, it may not have been released in USA if that is
where you are.

I think the song was written by Lee Hays of the Weavers. If that helps any.

I believe Suzanne B was thinking of The Limelighters. I'm almost positive that the KT never did that song.

If it is a Lonnie recording you want it is on: The Folk Album ..Plus part of the Lonnie 2000 series of CDs from Castle Music (NEMCD 346). This contains the LP tracks from the Folk Album plus 14 other tracks, "some of them previously unreleased". "Leaving Blues" is my favourite track on the CD which also includes the Sinatra classic "A Very Good Year" (folk???), "Lemon Tree", "T-Bone talking Woman" etc.

Glenn Yarbrough, of the Limeliters, did this on a recording back in the late 1960's or early 70's, I believe. It was a much more lyrical version than one done by the Kingston Trio, which was pretty in its own right, but came across a bit more "mechanical" for my taste. I haven't had the pleasure of hearing Lonnie Donegan's recording.

By the way, the original "Tie Me Kangaroo Down" was by the late Australian, Rolf Harris, wasn't it? I'd love to hear take-offs on that one.

Lonnie Donegans version is in my opinion a song that grows on you, and when it does, it hits you like a ton of bricks. Great version. Always been a very big favourite of mine.

Lonnie recorded these songs (see above) together with Ramblin' Round and three unissued tracks (Just A-Wearying For You; Keep On The Sunny Side; Tiger Rag (!))in April, 1961.
He was acc. by Les Bennetts (lead guitar), Peter Huggett (bass), Pete Appleby (drums)and possibly Miki & Griff and an unknown female singer.

For those in Europe who can access the Spotify CD streaming service, there's a 3-CD set called "Rock Island Line - The Singles Anthology". Just been listening to "Seven Daffodils" on it.

My most humble apologies to Mr. Harris. He may well be inclined to respond that rumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated. I was apparently misinformed - better that than to have been misinterred, I suppose.
