And she's sounding wonderful as ever - even doing guide vocals she's smack on every note, and full-on emotionally. And Trevor is in good voice too - though I'm not too sure about the Scottish accent on Eppie Moray - but it's a gripping rendition, one of the best on the album.

A couple of rough patches maybe, but a great album overall. Some people have found Trevor's songs not to taste, but I think they've very well written and very much in the country/folk/rock of the time. I like his singing very much.

A fantastic effort by Jerry to rescue the tapes and finish the job after all these years, and it was actually very moving to hear him talking about those times with Karl. I enjoyed chatting to him and the others too. Though Sandy and Jerry are recognised geniuses, and Trevor was damn good too - I think it's Gerry and Pat who can take the credit for that wonderfully understated yet immensely powerful Fotheringay sound. Banks of The Nile remains the definitive folk rock track - never bettered, and not a 'folk' instrument in earshot.

Tom

PS I was stunned to learn that Albert Lee was briefly a member. Crikey, that Sandy knew how to find guitar players!

If this was being made in 1971, does that mean it includes Sandy Denny?

(Apologies if someone's mentioned this and I've missed it. Please merge or delete if necessary).

The three surviving members of Fotheringay Jerry Donahue, Pat Donaldson and Gerry Conway are launching Fotheringay 2 at Wall of Sound Records in Huddersfield this Sunday - the 28th of Sept. (I'm not sure if they're playing live, but the shop thinks they may be)!

This is the album they were making when they split in 71, which has been on its way for some years now:

John the Gun
Eppie Moray
Wild Mountain Thyme
Knights of the Road
Late November
Restless
Gypsy Davey
I Don't Believe You
Silver Threads and Golden Needles
Bold Jack Donahue
Two Weeks Last Summer.

Rumour has it that Karl Dallas, Chris & Kellie While and possibly Vicki Clayton may come - but I can't be sure about that.

I'm going, that's for sure!

Tom
