Subject: BS: Secret Santa messages 2009
From: GUEST,Severn's Secret Santa (newly appointed)
Date: 09 Nov 09 - 06:13 PM

Just to let you know that I am absolutely delighted to find that I've been appointed to take care of you this year. The reindeer, the elves, Mrs Claus and I are all now polishing all work surfaces, re-pointing tiling and generally buffing up our skills in readiness. Oh, what fun it's going to be, sorting out your special delivery!
All dietary and health requirements have been duly noted and annotated, so as soon as possible it'll be down to the markets to hand-pick suitable items.

Wot larks!

Well, here I am, ready and waiting, elves poised with parcel tape, reindeer reined up and ready, sat nav switched on ... but there's just one teensy problem - YOU HAVEN'T TOLD ME WHAT YOU WANT!! Cor, I know I'm a supreme being but all this mind reading is giving me a headache.
Now, if you don't tell me what you want, you will end up with the coal you didn't get last year OK???

Want A Blow-Up Doll For Christmas
(c)1992 by Eric Brown

I want a blow-up doll for Christmas.
I want a girl I can inflate.
I saw one like I want in a girlie magazine --
The one that I hide between my mattress and box springs.
I want a blow-up doll for Christmas.
Hurry up, Santa, I can't wait!
I want a blow-up doll for Christmas,
'Cause I know that she'll be the perfect mate.

She must be heavy-duty to resist wear and tear.
She'll come with a special set of sexy underwear.
I'll dress her like a hooker, then dress her for the prom,
Then let her air out, fold her up and hide her from my Mom.

(8-bar instrumental)

She won't talk so I won't have to call her on the phone.
I won't have to comb her hair because it's printed on.
Her lips will be shaped like an "O" and painted ruby red.
I'll have to hide her from my friends -- she'll be a real airhead.

Oh, I want a blow-up doll for Christmas.
I want a girl with vinyl flesh.
She must have a pretty face up above her neck.
The rest of her body must be anatomically correct.
I want a blow-up doll for Christmas.
I think I'll call her Judy or Beth.
I want a blow-up doll for Christmas,
'Cause real girls, they scare me half to death

Well bless your appointed little head under your a-pointed little seasonal hat! I am quite honored to be the recipient of the first Secret Santa message of the year and am looking forward to being in such ready and capable hands, knowing in advance that I'll be treated well, as I have traditionally have been by previous Santas for as long as I've been enjoying this seasonal rite.

Be careful and don't buff your skills so hard you hurt yourself, especially if you buff them up in the buff, but I will be fully apprieciative of your presents and the clues leading up to recieving them. Already there's mention of "Mrs. Claus and I". Should I take THAT as a clue that you're male? And Yanks on the whole, don't tend to say "Wot larks!", but who knows wot larks behind your facade?

If you've done your homework looking at what some of my past Santas and their messenger/scout elves have had to go through in recent years, you will know that they might meet up with the two guardian House Brownies, Hash & McGhee and a cat named Molly and some local "wee folk" as well, especially since there is no fireplace in the townhome I live in, so research the archives well.

'til the next message,
Severn

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa messages 2009
From: GUEST,Sarah The Flute's Galoot w/The Loot
Date: 10 Nov 09 - 11:04 AM

Sarah.

I've drawn a top-drawer Flute-Of-The-Room this year, and I'm here to see that my assigned piper gets properly paid! So I thank you very much for posting your hints, as we've little time to spare, and I must assign research and delivery elves to select the finest Goodies in the shortest amount of time. You may get a Surry-based elf or maybe some sort of surrogate elf, providing they can slip under the Surry Gates, but you may hear from one soon.

Cheap and interesting? I prefer things that way, myself!

Trinket, you say? Well consider yourself trinked or trunk or whatever.

"Galoot"? Well that's a term I picked up from some old Yank Cowboy movies. I don't know whether the plural is "Galeet" or whether there are "gal-loots" and "guy-loots" (I assume that a female could be one, as well), but the term usually conjures up the image of some old bearded guy such as Gabby Hayes, or more to the point, like the image of dear himself Santa Claus. All I'll ask of you in return for what bounty comes your way is that you use your previously mentioned cartooning skills to conjure up your own image of what your Santa looks like from these messages and send it to me afterwards when all is finally revealed and hopefully not reviled.

All for now, much to do, little time!

Santa

Guessing already? Looking for hints in the wording? Be assured, my fluvial Santee, that I am quite capable of dropping some deliberate red herrings into your tidal flow.
You've been Santa'd before, I know, so you know the pack drill. Good behaviour from you results in presents from me. I have sent my agents out to check that your behaviour does indeed conform to the usual high standards... we shall see!

In the meantime I continue to search for goodies that will gladden your heart come Yule time.

Oh, and your house brownies are already in negotiations with my elves, and the cat has been gently reminded of the need to treat my reindeer with respect. Let's hope that side of things goes smoothly.

A bientot, my friend.

I've endured many river references in my life, but I must admit, I've never been referred to as "fluvial" before.

I applaud the timely manner in which your elves have made contact with the guardians of my townshack and being in the process of becoming Post-Postal, I am always apprieciative of a prompt and efficient delivery system.

So don't be surprised or bothered by my early guessing, as, like in the case of your delivery system, we have less time to let things unfold in a leisurely manner this year. And due to the medical and financial crises of the past two years, I assure you that I've had far less opportunities to misbehave than in most years past, so I'm sure there'll be no reason to scrimp or penalize on gifts on the basis of merit.

So I'll harken to your Herring Angels singing solefully while dressed in seasonal red (as is their usual halibut), perhaps even accompanied by a Christmas Cod bringing Peace as well, as I contemplate the mysteries of the season and await what it may bring.

Sarah,

I understand that flutery may get me nowhere, but that you, however, are quite good at it.

I hope you were, indeed, being good on your night out at the pub and that the clock in the Epsom clock tower wasn't showing too late an hour by the time you came home. My elf has been scouting out the vacinity in that time, finding out that the race track isn't, by a long shot, the only piece of one-way travel in the area but is slowly getting his bearings nonetheless, ("The Lord Epsom what Epsom selves.", I think he said, but it may have been a bad connection) and will now be keeping a good eye on you, so smile sweetly.

As for your as yet unasked question, "Que?", Sarah?
Sarah, what will be will be.

And the stack of "What Will Be" grows ever higher.....

Sarah,

It took my elf quite a while to figure out the town and surrounding area and to actually locate you and hear the music. He gets easily distracted. He stopped at the track toi see if they might need a part time jockey. He stopped outside one pub and listened on the sly to a local shanty group that call themselves "The Epsom Salts". He stopped by The Ashley Center to make sure your gifts were far beyond anything to be found there. He stopped in places you'll never know where only the wee folk go.

How do I know this? There are other elves assigned to other people
in your area who report back to me not only about whether the Santees have been good but whether the other elves have been good. If one seriously misbehaves in the course of his or her duties, it's back to the sweatshop and the toy assembly lines. Only the finest and most trusted elves get to do scout work and get to travel. You never see the wee folk, but they're all around you with places to stay and ways to live their own social life. Just don't ask too many questions and just believe and you shall recieve a bountiful box of
treasures untold, cheap thrills surpassing your wildest dreams.

......if, of course, you're good.

Dear Santa,

As Santees are wont to do this time of year, I shall ask you you a few questions about yourself, not nescessarily expecting straight and truthful answers but figuring it is far better to recieve red herrings in advance in print form than in my stocking, especially if they're untinned, so save the "masses in the coaled, coaled ground" in lump form for stuffing the Sacred Santa Sock should I prove to have misbehaved. Besides, I have helped stuff and empty bait bags for lobster traps in my lifetime and am a bit wary of dead herring over a certain age in any hue of natural or induced discoloration.

So please bear with some rather standard inquiries* and hints-forth be ready deposit the crimson fish in a proper receptacle:

1) WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO REVEAL YOUR GENDER AT THIS TIME?

2) MIGHT YOU BE WILLING TO REVEAL THE CONTINENT ON WHICH YOU DWELL?#

3) WHAT WOULD BE THE PREFERRED SNACK FOOD TO LAY OUT FOR YOURSELF, THE REINDEER AND ANY MORE VISITING ELVES?

*(In all caps so as to be cap-tioned for the hard of herring)

I shall inqiure of the House Brownies and Molly-kitty for any particulars they learned from your elves' previous visit (I DO know what food to bribe THEM with) and get back to you soon. I'm, of course, doing my best at "being-have" and aquitting myself well through my many trials until then....

The future beneficiary of your
kindness, generosity and exquisite taste,

Severn

#Hopefully from one of the "IN-continents" (as designated yearly by Travel & Leisure Magazine), something I never had to care about much until I got older......

Goodness me, what a lot of questions!

I think for the time being at least I will remain ambiguous as to my gender, and all I'll say about the continence question is that it will be a long distance journey to reach you, involving refuelling the reindeer along the way and possibly some comfort stops for me.

You are kind to ask about refreshments. For myself, a piece of chocolate cake accompanied by a decent drop of Scotch (or indeed Irish) spirituous liqueur. The reindeer will be happy with the traditional carrots, while the elves (I anticipate having a few with me)are omniverous and greedy and have been known to consume vast amounts of chocolate (although their preference is for the Belgian kind).

Now you really must excuse me as it's a particularly busy time of year ....

I see you have been very good this year, very good indeed. Much better than this year has been to you, I fear! We shall see what we can do to brighten the end of it just a bit.

Git on up, there, you elves! Put that bourbon away! Break time is over. Back to work!!! Harumph humph humph.

My Dear Special Santa,

How very kind it is of you to let me know that you don't live at the North Pole. You must be a very modern Santa then, you've probably got those elves of yours all organised with up-to-date labour saving devices like CNC and Plastic Moulding machines. It certainly cuts down the hard work and I guess that every year there are more and more presents needed for everyone!!

But turning the Atlas upside-down? Well I can't imagine such a thing, surely one would have to read all the placenames upside-down aswell? Personally I find that having a map pointing North is much easier to understand *grin*

You've kindly discounted Scotland from my search for you and also many other places too, almost a third of the World! And your clues might seem to point to you being situated North of the Equator. Dare I ask, while we're being all modern, what language your keyboard is set for?

I hope you're enjoying your secret garden as much as I am mine, though it is all rather damp at the moment. Hope you're safe, dry and happy!
Cheers,
Hil

I notice that your hints from last year have been reposted by a very nice young lady with a superb singing voice, how very kind of her. Perhaps you could peruse them at your leisure and see if there are any changes you wish to make?

My stalwart elves have been hammering and stitching away in an attempt to create the perfect gift for you this Christmas. I'm not certain that they know what they're doing, but then who am I to judge? In any event, more clues as to your preferences would be a good idea methinks.

Being good can take a number of forms, there should be a rosette for it, I'm sure....

Salutations, my little Santee ... I thought I would let you know that I stumbled today upon a small trove of suitable gifts, various in style and hue, which I thought quite appropriate. Your package is therefore almost ready to be assembled and despatched.
If it should arrive before Christmas Eve, I feel I must remind you that opening the package early will almost certainly result in the contents transforming themselves magically into soot and ashes before your very eyes.
And we'd hate that to happen, wouldn't we?

It soots me just fine to wait for the right time of leisurely awaking on the holiday morning for my thrill of discovery, or as leisurely as awakenings on that day get, helped by the lack of children dwelling here. No use peaking before Christmas anyhow (some say I peaked years ago, but don't listen to them!) and I'll not find myself either otherwise engaged or even be-troved until then. I wouldn't want my gifts self destructing like a Mission Impossible assignment tape, with possible examples of your local folkways reduced to mo' ashes.

You, like the best of Secret Santas, have managed to make the messages part of the gift itself, so advance thanks for that from a most grateful Santee for mmaking it worth its wait in gold. Let nothing you dismay!

"Little" Santee? I'd thought myself somewhat medium.

Ooooh goodie goodie goodie goodie goodie! There really is a Santa -- and a Chief Elf! Yayyyyy!!! Geez, I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning already. This is delightful!

Now, then, on to the serious stuff: the question of whether I've been good. Hmmmmmmmmm..... that depends on whom you ask.

My bandmates seem to be undecided since, although they say they think my songs are good, they are frustrated by my continual nattering about sticking to one tempo throughout any song that's supposed to have just one tempo (no racing, no dragging, no drag-racing!). Also, when I told them at our most recent rehearsal that if they were going to use terminology like "chorus" and "bridge", they should use the terms correctly, I was roundly boo-ed. I leave it to Santa to determine which band member is naughty! :-)

I volunteered to be elected President of the local folk-song society this year (i.e. no one else volunteered for the job so I ran unopposed); does that count for "good"? The other Board members think that my committee meetings run a bit too naughtily long for their tastes, but they're letting me volunteer to run unopposed for 2010!

My cat, if she could speak English, would say I am not good because I adopted a kitten from a shelter last spring (a birthday present to myself!) and the kitten has been driving her crazy ever since. He's constantly following her, watching her, batting at her, and chasing her when she tries to get away from him -- not a moment's peace for poor grumbly Maddie Mae for almost half a year now. My vet would probably say that I'm not on his good-list because I keep bringing Roo the kitten to him for problems that turn out to be no big deal; I think he's sick of seeing me in the waiting room! But heck, I haven't dealt with a runt-of-the-litter kitten since 1988; I've forgotten a lot!

There's nothing on the local police blotter with my name on it, but that just means I haven't been terribly naughty! I've been a really boring law-abiding citizen. I've been late in paying some of my bills, though, so I guess I deserve a little lump of coal in the toe of my stocking for that. ':-/

Anyway, Chief Elf, you are certainly on MY nice list for letting me know you're there and thinking of me! Thank you!!!
:-)

Yoohoo! Bat Goddess! You out there? Listen, we've been on the hunt for suitable items and the elves seem to have been having some luck, as they've been dragging back bits and pieces of this and that. But they all have aquestion for you: Just what, pray tell, is a hippocampus? They've had no luck what so ever locating a university for large, river-dwelling African mammals, so that's out.

The hippocampus is a major component of the brains of humans and other mammals. It belongs to the limbic system and plays important roles in long-term memory and spatial navigation. Like the cerebral cortex, with which it is closely associated, it is a paired structure, with mirror-image halves in the left and right sides of the brain. In humans and other primates, the hippocampus is located inside the medial temporal lobe, beneath the cortical surface.

No, no, no! Not African river dwellers! And not a part of the brain, either! (Already have an intact brain, thankyou.)

Greek mythological creature with the head of a horse and the tail of a fish -- Poseidon had a stable full to pull his chariot.

I have a HUGE collection -- I have eight. Been collecting for almost 30 years. These critters are not only mythical, but damned hard to come by. Passed up one once and have been kicking myself ever since. It was a wooden antique, probably had been part of some piece of furniture. Wasn't particularly pricey, but I was suffering from St. Francis's distemper at the time. (Sigh...and have been since.) Should have snagged it, though. (Could have skipped eating for awhile.)

My garden? Well it wouldn't be secret if I talked about it, would it?
Maybe if you're very good I'll include pictures when I send your present.
As for the Equator. Not a lot of people know this but I'll let you in on a secret:
It's moveable -- it not being at all solid. It makes sense doesn't it? One day it's wandering up and the next it's billowing down. Up! Down! Just words really anyway.

Date: 29 Nov 09 - 02:07 PM

Sarah,

It's me that must try to articulate, rather than the delivery sliegh or truck, the fact that sometimes small things come in good packages (or however that goes). There will be a manageable sized, easily liftable package full of a vast multitude of wee goodies, most (hopefully all) of which I'm quite sure you'll like, some of which will be indicitive of the highly polarized area in which I live, some not. Some friend, lover or family member may come in style, triumphing over a stile or two to save you from The Gallows Pole, The Gallup Pole, some sort of mangy, ornery fragrant vagrant of a Pole Cat or other Polish types of the Warsaw or Shoe varieties, but you've nothing to fear from the North Pole, which will rival only the May Pole in inspiring you to dance for sheer joy! Yule be surprised at what you find!

Whatever, the package may be able to depart as soon as Monday.

So, anyway,

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name
(Woo, Whooo....Woo-Whooo!)
What may be puzzling you
Is the nature of my game.....

I still expect that cartoon portrait!

God Rest Ye Merry,
Santa

Well, that's it. The reindeer decided that the prevailing climactic conditions precluded an accurate take off and landing, my own health means that I was strongly counselled to take a few days off and so I was advised by my elves that I should entrust your package to the conventional mailing services. I'd have preferred a personal drop, but you have to work with the staff you've got and my staff, frankly, wouldn't budge on the issue.
So your package has been sealed, stamped and labelled and it's on its way.
I'm sure if you could see your way clear to leaving out the aforementioned chocolate cake and single malt we'll find a way to drop by on 24th and consume whatever's there, but the package should have reached you before then.

Now, where are those mince pies?

Your somewhat suffering SS.

We've been keeping watch and you have indeed been good. That's god, because there might be something good for you in the good cupboard (as opposed to the naughty cupboard, which only holds coal).

Good wishes

Dear Santa,

I hope you're feeling up to snuff and above snuffling, but if your nose remains redder than even Rudolph's, just take out your Kleenex or clean Hanky (free of panky), take the advice of all those bumper stickers and "HONK IF YOU LOVE JESUS!" in an act of praise to show him you wish him a Happy Birthday. And I'll put out a shot or two for the elves to have a good snort in your homor.

'Tis the season, after all....

Be well!

Hey there, My Santa!

Sorry to be out of the loop! I'm snowed under (as you are, probably literally) out here in the Wild West! One of the problems of us getting round to Secret Santaship so late - mid October to December is always a madhouse for me! So if you wanted to get me a Personal Assistant for Christmas ... that would be just fine!

Me likes jewels! Don't generally wear danglies, but that's not to say I wouldn't ... particularly if they were from you! Dried escargot are just fine too ... I spike them on toothpicks and stake them out in the garden; a warning to local snails that I'm not to be annoyed.

Right. I've made some Rather Nice Maple Syrup tarts and some Nanaimo bars. For a drink: are we talking alcoholic, or the classic Glass of Milk?

OK, no danglies. The Missus checked previous years, and said that's what she thought. Sorry, but the escargot (fresh and dried) are all gone. I sent them to the French forces in Afghanistan. I do have some chocolate-covered ants left.

A drink? Alcohol, to be sure-but no hot buttered rum, please. Something simple; perhaps a 150-year-old cognac in a warmed snifter, along with some shortbread biscuits. Sorry, but maple sugar tarts stick in my teeth.

Jello and UK or Aus = not an option. Unless you're being very, very clever in hiding your location. And fire-lighting? Only safe if you're in snow. Be sure the reindeer's bottoms are not smoldering when they arrive here.

I'm afraid "jello" isn't a real telling clue; if you've visited any of the Mudcat Tavern threads over the past half-dozen years or more you'll know that a "jello pit" is a major feature. Often occupied by a giant squid and various unlucky individuals. English-speaking catters the world round know about that jello pit with lime jello.

Yessiree sir m'am, very well known, so much so that it's a non-clue.

From: GUEST,Sarah's Slightly-Draggin' Sleigh-er

Sweet Sarah Of The Woodwinds,

The package, after a slight repackaging, is far enough on its way to Surrey in a hurry that it would be folly
(la-la-la, la-lah-la-lah!)
to turn back at this point and besides, I'm looking forward to secretly dropping it off....

"There were few at the scene
But they all did agree
That the sleigh-er who ran
Looked a lot like me......"

....so this fellow Kenny can die mysteriously at your party and you won't be implicated. The police will deposit it to their IRA account and go off chasing red herons, scarlet ibises and the like in their clueless manner. Yule still get your much-merited present and it should be worth your wait, maybe even in gold. A few of the elves went overboard this year.....

(No Sarah, the sleigh DOESN'T have a plank and they were forgiven because they still brought it all in under budget. Aaaaaarrrrrgh! "Yard Sales In The Sunset......")

.....So go ahead and let yourself go at your holiday bash and my scout elf can tell me just what it IS that you do at these sessions that might cause you guilt. If the elf gets it on film (or captures Kenny's demise, for that matter) it will be put on next year's account for next year's behavior scan for next year's Santa List.

But I assure you that this year's Pole-winning Santa will be a hard act to follow. (In fact, it might be a hard act to merely follow these long messages). Yule hopefully find your Claus pretty sharp this year.

So get to work drawing your cartoon portrait of Santa before you find out who she or he actually is, and if you find a good picture later on Facebook or a Cat thread, you can draw a caracature of the real thing, as well.

Or have you ventured a guess or two already?

Be good, Be-lieve!

Rest ye merry, Gentle Lady,
Your Santa

And play a good tune for me tonight of your choice.

Santa I am clueless as to your identity. I'm guessing you've taken a holiday from the North Pole to Ingerland. Once you reveal yourself (no perhaps I shouldn't have said that) I'll get pencil to paper for your portrait.

Off to kill a few Kenny's now
The party is really the same as the other sessions every Tuesday but with one exception....the invasion of pork! This consists of sandwiches (inch of bread, inch of ham, inch of bread in thickness) and garnish (pork pies cut into quarters) and if we are really lucky sausage in a basket (a basket with about a hundred chipolata sausages in it oozing with grease!)

I'll play you a tune or two

Sarah

Sarah,

Don't get a ticket for double porking. Ahhhh, The glory that is Grease!

Chopped up pigmeat for Christmas? Will there be Auld Lang Swine for New Years and Hogamany? I'm told that in America, they don't grind up their hogs until Groundhog Day itself.

So go enjoy your pork, but know that when we meat again with everything at steak, all shall be re-vealed.

I'm glad to see you have no fear of Christmas. After having a few shots tonight, you will be totally immune to Santa-Claustrophobia, Noel Cowardice and North Polio. Nothing will perish beyond your Ken, but as we've already established, poor Kenny's on his own.

So, your unarrived parcel, being still in the delivery system can be considered as "pre" even while it's still classified as "post", but I assure you that your present will be passed to you in the near future. So are you OK with the present "time-space continue-'em"? Our favorite flutist deserves to be gifted as well as talented.

You can tell me tomorrow what tunes were played with me in mind.

Rest Ye Even Merrier,
Santa

(ed note: one of the examples of St Nicholas' sanithood was smacking somebody during the Council of Nicea. This was held as proof of his sainthood because the Emperor Constantine did not have him executed for committing a violent act in the emperor's presence. The petty detail that Constantine agreed with Nicholas had nothing to do with it. Really.)

Joy,

If I had the gift of confab like some of our Mudcatters, I'd turn this into a song. But here's the long and short of it:

Those reindeer, the ones that hang around behind the Mudcat Tavern, they're the third string group hired by a contractor who works for me out of necessity (too many places to visit on my own any more). That group is a little hung over right now and they refused to head to your side of the planet. Something about the essence of permafrost in their veins will boil at your current temperatures.

So we've devised a little plan. This group of reindeer may be lushes, but they're fairly creative when they're hungover sober. They hauled out an old Trebuchet leftover from a television series filmed in Washington and set in Alaska. Said it managed to lob an upright grand piano across a field so it should manage this (relatively) tiny little package for you. They got out their pocket calculators and their slide rules (some are old school) and calculated that based upon the shape, weight, and wrapping of the package, plus the angle, the resistance and the thin air, they can lob this thing up over the equator and hit your property pretty easily. I've asked them to miss the house and don't bounce it off the car or they'll break all of the glass.

Yours truly,

Santa

Greetings to you now enjoying summer near the bottom of the world.

Most of your pressie will soon be in the hands of one of Santa's favourite helpers, who has promised to deliver the package directly to you, thus cutting out the postman.

There was a little problem in completing part of your gift and that will follow on as soon as possible after the yuletide break. With luck it may be with you upon your return to the UK.

In the meantime, enjoy your Christmas with your family down there in the nether regions.

Dear Batty,
The nisser, tomter, elves, brownies and other assorted wee folk have been hauling all kinds of assorted bits 'n pieces back from wherever. I don't inquire too closely as to where or how they acquire some of these things, though. Deniability can be a good thing... Anyway, mthe package is being assembled and will be winging its way to you soon. There may even be a personal delivery involved, elves can be so handy sometimes...

The reindeer are galloping, galloping, the elves are scurrying, scurrying, and other seasonal thingies are doing other things ending with -ing. With luck your parcel will be with you in time for Christmas. You may open the outer covering and investigate, but on no account open the rest before December 25th! It might turn into something nasty!

Alison, your package is on its way, but the reindeer cannot promise to be there in time. These new animal protection are such a hassle - apparently 24 hours of hoofing it in a row is just too much for the NPSPCA.

Your present should arrive just before Christmas if we're lucky and soon after if we're not.

If "BB(NL)BS's personal delivery elf" pertains to Bat Goddess (and someone seems to think it does) --

No, alas, both Tom and I will be working on Tuesday. (He works 8-4; I work noon-8.) The driveway is currently navigable in MY car (Subaru) but not in Tom's (Saturn) and, since no one will be home there will be no treats of any temperature (unless you knock off an icicle) available.

Fret not that your gift hasn't turned up yet. Due to life, the universe and everything I have got confused. Who altered the dates of the year???

You SHOULD get your pressie by the Old Christmas if the elves have not gone on strike by then or the mental amnesia completely set in.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, the 23rd is definitely out -- Tom's off for more tests, I've got errands all over the place. Not sure when I'll be home or out. Probably more out than home. And then I have to actually get some pre-Christmas stuff done, too, which I have NOT had a chance to do.

Sorry, Santa! I have so little time these days that's not taken up with work, Tom's medical stuff or trying to get done the day-to-day stuff that needs to get done around the house (not that my house looks like ANYTHING has been done to it for months!).

Hmmm...Chez Sinsull can be dangerous all by itself! (But do I have to be as afraid as she should be at the threat of the glorious find that lies in HER future?!?)

chortle.

Anne Lister, Anne Lister, patience, but no fear, is called for at this time... Santa and the elves have magically assembled your pressies, but being caught in a vortex of moving the workshop to new digs, instead of flying by sleigh, the Gifts will instead be coming by slow camel, as is traditional in these parts, and should be there by Easter Epiphany, if they don't get too lost in the desert or confused by the snow on the way. But, come they will, to extend your Christmas season!

In the meantime, we wish you the very best of Christmas and for the New Year!

Alison, there will be no mystery whatsoever when your pressies finally arrive, I fear. Santa is being ecological this year (Yeah, that's it - ecological) and saving the world from wrapping paper. Oh all right - I confess. Santa was a wee bit rushed. Not nearly rushed enough, or Christmas wouldn't be late.

For Customs reasons, Santa also had to include his or her real name on the outside of the package. Apparently they wouldn't even let the reindeer in the country without a responsible adult.

Fortunately, Santa had them fooled on both counts!

The Designated Elf even took a picture of the figurines with Torchwood tower in the background but a) she took them on her mobile phone and can't figure out how to get them 'elsewhere' and b) you can't actually see the tower, just a blazing white light which would be particularly cool if it was UFO related but actually the sun was coming in at a low angle ... !

And you KNOW we don't identify ourselves!
