I need to get in touch with any Mudcatters (or Mudcatters who know others who were there)   who attended the Folk Club in Glossop where Nic performed his last gig before suffering his catastrophic accident. It's a lot to ask, but clear(ish) memories of the evening could prove very valuable. Please PM me if you have something specific, but feel free to post publicly if your comment is of a more general nature...these posts could prove valuable too because of their 'memory tweaking' potential,

FWIW, if anything. Nic & Julia and the children had been to visit Valerie & me for lunch not very long before the accident ~~ we lived in Cambs villages only a few miles apart. When we learned of the accident from a newspaper report, we called and spoke to Julia's parents who were looking after the children while Julia was at the hospital, and went round there. All I really recall was the sad and depressed atmosphere. We visited many times after Nic came home and was somewhat on the mend. I remember one time he had got out his fiddle and played a bit as best he then could, and I strummed along on guitar, and the sad gaiety of his saying ironically, "Shall we do gigs?"

Soon after, they moved to Yorkshire, and then to Devon; and we rather lost touch until the few exchanges I had a bit back with Julia and Helen on another of your threads, Nigel.

Don't know if any of these recollections of any interest in this present context?

I though I had some video of Nic which was included in a TV programme sometime during the 1980s, but having trawled through all of my old Granda TV Rental video cassettes from that time, it is no longer there. I remember that Jim Eldon was on the programme as was Martin Carthy.

Who was running the club at that time ? Was it Kelly & Walsh or was that later?
Was it Will Williams ?

I was there as a guest the week after, the guy that ran the club was will williams, i think, Brian peters would remember him.
he is apparantly still around in the manchester area if you google will wiliams, what better person than the guy who was running the club to tell you about the night

The club was run by graham and Sheila nelmes - will Williams and Allison .....
