Subject: RE: searching for banjotabs for Irish reels From: Charcloth Date: 21 Aug 00 - 10:32 AM Ken Perlman has a book & CD out entitled MEL BAYS BASIC CLAWHAMMER BANJO. Ken has a web site but I don't have the address But You can get the book & CD from Elderly Instruments. It has 30 tunes 3or 4 jigs it even has a few Irish waltz some of the # are "Sheebeg Sheemore", "Haste to the Wedding" "Little Beggerman" "Fisher's Hornpipe". I must warn you although it is called "Basic clawhammer banjo" It is not for begginers. but is an excellent book & CD. |
Subject: RE: searching for banjotabs for Irish reels From: Jon W. Date: 21 Aug 00 - 07:18 PM I can second the good tip on Ken Perlman's book. Taught me everything I know. Another suggestion: Use TablEdit to convert ABC notation from Henrik Norbeck's collection of Irish session tunes to 5-string tab. It will take a fair amount of work to polish the conversion results into usable tab, but that will shorten the tune learning by the same amount, so you break even. Then when you have a usable tab file, email it to me. Thanks, I appreciate that. You can also try this URL: www.sessioneer.com but I haven't been able to get it to work (server too busy error) as I was posting this. Jon W. |
Subject: RE: searching for banjotabs for Irish reels From: GUEST,TablEdit Date: 13 Mar 01 - 07:40 PM Actually, TablEdit has built in tools for making imported files more playable. The most powerful of these is the "optimize fingerings" option in the Transpose feature. If you select this option on the Transpose dialog box and set it to transpose zero half-steps, then it will make the TAB more playable. You can apply this to all or part of a TAB and even specify the fret range to keep it within. |
Subject: RE: searching for banjotabs for Irish reels From: BanjoRay Date: 14 Mar 01 - 07:40 PM I don't suppose TableEdit can turn 3 finger tab ino clawhammer tab - now that's what I would call a FEATURE. If you're into three finger tab, Tom Hanway's written a book for Irish tunes in three finger style - its VERY good. Its from Mel Bay. Cheers |
