Subject: Tablature notational software
From: GUEST,Frankham

Hi,

I'm looking for a notational software that's user friendly and makes pretty looking tablature for guitar, 5-string, mandolin, bass and fiddle.

Could you please give me some suggestions? I am researching TABRITE
and TABLEDIT. If you have any thoughts about these as well, I would be grateful.

My object is to do an instruction book.

Thanks,

Frank

try this. It contains a good discussion with some folks who have used TablEdit extensively. I've just started using it but am quite excited about the potential.

Thanks for your response, John. It may be that Tabledit is the way to go. What I need specifically is a tablature that looks good in printed form for publishing and can be reproduced in a larger scale for easier reading. I really don't need the standard musical notation feature but it's important the the tab generates the rhythmic symbols. TabRite was not mentioned in the discussion. Maybe it's too low end? The Finale package doesn't seem specific enough for my needs. None of them mention generating tab without accompanying music notation but I guess that this would be a usual feature of Tabledit.

In short, what I need is just a tablature program with rhythm symbols that is user-friendly and can be reproduced in a larger scale....say anywhere from 175% to 200%.

Any responses welcome.

Thanks,

Frank

There's a programme here called MUSE which may be worth having a look at.

Hi Nutty,

I checked out Muse and it is good except that it doesn't offer the rhythm symbols on the tablature. Only on the notes. Thanks for suggesting it, though.

Frank, you can download a demo version of Tabledit from thier site. It has a few "annoyances" like anything you try to print will have "demo version" printed in various places but it should be good enough for you to assess whether it will do what you want.

I use a very cheap and easy to use program called Mellody Assistant. I dont know about Fiddle Tab but it handles all the other Tabs you mentioned.
It's shareware, (registration fee $15) and prints good looking score.
All the best PP
