My favorite rendition of this song is the one done by the contratenor ALFRED DELLER on an old Vanguard LP. It was used as the theme song for a folk radio show (The Meetin' House) in the late 1950s in Chicago. It was hosted by a fellow named Phil Green. Later, the show was hosted Ella Jenkins --- an old friend and a wonderful performer with and for children.

She was awesome! The whole production what just outstanding. They must have really studied the parts well, because they used ALL of Shakespeare's dialog, but the inflections they used sounded like modern comedy, like say, a sitcom. It was completely understandable the whole way through. No confusion what so ever. If ever Shakespeare play was staged like that one...man...no one would ever call Shakespeare "confusing" "hard to read" or "boring" again! Max Wright (who played Willy on "ALF") was absolutely hilarious as Sir Andrew Aguecheek. They had me and my sis laughing SO hard!

Oops, the reference to Ben Kingsley as Feste made me think of the other one. How was Helen Hunt then as Viola?

No no no. This was a production with Helen Hunt as Viola, Philip Bosco as Malvolio, and David Patrick Kelly as Feste. You can see the cast list at IMDB right here.

The complete play can be found on the web. It premiered before the Queen in Jan. of 1601 (new style), so Feste would have been played by Will Kemp. (Armin replaced Kemp in 1604.)

A few years ago there was an AWESOME production of Twelfth Night on PBS, starring Helent Hunt, among others. Absolutely hilarious. The guy who playes Feste was great..he played his mandolin and sang all the songs...which were arranged quite beautifully and very haunting. I need to listen to it again so I can sing it, and make some midis. My and my sister can't go outside on a dreary day with out singing in unison that haunting melodey "Hey ho...the wind and rain...."

Does any one have the words possibly taken from a Shakespear play as follows When I was but a little boy with a Heigh ho the wind and the rain the rain it raineth every day I think it was on a Richard Dyer Bennet 78 RPM recording Any ideas??
