Subject: Two little girls... From: GUEST Date: 16 Oct 01 - 04:46 PM Okay- You guys pretty much always help me with the songs that I don't know. I am looking for the name and perhaps some artists who recorded a song... The lyrics have something to do with Two little girls in a rowboat and the bad man who does things with their bones (they become fiddlesticks) hair (bowstrings)... All help would be appreciated. Also I'm trying to figure out a song that I fell in love with on a car trip a long time ago. 1995ish I know nothing about the song/artist except that it was a female in the Ani Defranco/Tori Amos folk vein and there was one lyric. "Maybe on a plane ... or to Spain." Not a lot, I know, but who knows. Thanks as always. Josh |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Two little girls... From: Susan of DT Date: 16 Oct 01 - 06:31 PM The first one might be Two Sisters - put #10 into the blue search box for a lot of versions. Two sisters are courted by the same man. One sister drownds the other. The miller may or may not pull her out of the mill pond, steal her rings and push her back in and traveling minstrels may find her and make a harp or fiddle out of her breastbone, pegs out out of her "long finger bones" and strings out of her hair. The harp or fiddle plays alone and accuses the guilty sister who gets hung or burned, often next to the miller. Or it might be a different song entirely... |

Subject: Lyr Add: TWO LITTLE GIRLS (Ani DiFranco) From: Jim Dixon Date: 22 Mar 03 - 09:35 PM Here's the song Sarah was referring to, but I don't understand why she thinks it's the one Josh was looking for. It's got nothing about a plane or Spain in it... Lyrics copied from http://www.atlyrics.com/a/ani/page38.html And corrected by comparing with this site: http://www.geocities.com/tacoma_the_tiger/rbr10.html TWO LITTLE GIRLS (Ani DiFranco) You were fresh off the boat from Virginia. I had a year of New York City under my belt. We met in a dream. We were both nineteen. I remember where we were standing. I remember how it felt. Two little girls growing out of their training bras. This little girl breaks furniture. This little girl breaks laws. Two girls together just a little less alone; This little girl cried "wee wee wee" all the way home. You were always half crazy. Now look at you, baby. You make about as much sense as a nursery rhyme. Love is a piano dropped from a fourth story window, And you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. And I don't like your girlfriend. I blame her. I never seen one of your lovers do you so much harm. I loved you first and you know I would prefer If she didn't empty her syringes into your arm. Here comes little naked me padding up to the bathroom door To find little naked you slumped on the bathroom floor. So I guess I'll just stand here with my back against the wall While you distill your whole life down to a 911 call. Now you bring me your bruises so I can "ooh" and "aah" at the display. Maybe I'm supposed to make one of my famous jokes that makes everything okay. Or maybe I'm supposed to be the handsome prince who rides up and unties your hands. Or maybe I'm the furrow-browed friend who thinks she understands. Here comes little naked me padding up to the bathroom door To find little naked you slumped on the bathroom floor. So I guess I'll just stand here with my back against the wall While you distill your whole life down to a 911 call. Click for related thread |
Subject: Lyr Add: DANIEL (Elton John) From: GUEST Date: 12 Dec 07 - 06:02 PM Try this one- it's Tori Amos covering an Elton John song. I don't know if it helps at all but Tori and Ani are my favorite artists and I couldn't find anything else. Daniel is traveling tonight on a plane I can see the red tail lights heading for Spain Oh and I can see Daniel waving goodbye God, it looks like Daniel; must be the clouds in my eyes. They say Spain is pretty, though I’ve never been. Well, Daniel says it's the best place that he's ever seen. Oh, and he should know; he's been there enough. Lord, I miss Daniel. Oh, I miss him so much. Daniel, my brother, you are older than me. Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won't heal? Your eyes have died but you see more than I. Daniel, you're a star in the face of the sky. Daniel is traveling tonight on a plane. I can see the red tail lights heading for Spain. Oh, and I can see Daniel waving goodbye. God, it looks like Daniel; must be the clouds in my eyes. Oh God, it looks like Daniel; must be the clouds in my eyes. |
