I just noticed that Max has posted the more up to date version of the Macintosh Digital Tradition (less than a year old, rather than the three year old version) on the "Download your own" page.

I wanted to point it out for folks that were interested, and to encourage comments or suggestions for future updates. I can't offer detailed technical support in this topic, but I'd love to hear about what you find useful or would like to be able to do with the Digital Tradition on your Macintosh.

Thanks a lot, Mark - the download line is October 2000 Version (MacDT-Oct2000.bin) - 6.3 MB (click here).

Can you tell us what Mac operating systems it works on?

The currently available download requires a Power Macintosh processor -- anything made in the last five or six years should be able to run it. I haven't tested it with a lot of operating systems, but it should work with 7-9. I have a beta for OS X if anyone wants to try it.

Always knew MAX was a "WannBe"...

ALL NEW editions are ALWAYSreleased in IBM-PC format FIRST!!!! MAC's are for neophytes.

Just downloaded it - works a treat on OS 9.2 - so hats off to a fantastic job by Mark Heiman in updating and tweaking the program. The search facility works a treat, the scores display crisply and cleanly and the printing now accommodates all sorts of paper, including Filofax size.
I love the ability to export tunes as ABC, while the improved QuickTime playing is excellent (try the synth pads, linked up to a good amp - veeery funky!), and the chance to play in any key is very handy for those of us who are allergic to certain keys.
Bloody brilliant job, Dick, Mark, and all those involved - and for anyone with a Mac it has to be a 'must have' application.
It certainly knocks the spots off the PC version I've been having to use this past couple of years. (sorry Garg, but if you get a chance to compare the two, you'll salivate at the Mac version).

makes me wish I had a mac I could use... (almost. *grin* I'm too PC oriented to be comfortable on Macs)

Dare I ask about the latest PC version? (NOT pushing..., really)

Mein Gott! I just (a) got a cable internet connection, and with my increased download speed immediately (b) downloaded this Mac version of DigiTrad to run on my G4.

Wow!!! I'm TOTALLY blown away by the ability to slow down/speed up the tune, change keys, etc. And the array of instruments to play on!!! (so how come no concertina? reed organ is close . . .)

Lovely! Lovely! After an incredibly frustrating morning and early afternoon dealing with techs who mostly hadn't a clue, I am now a very very relieved and happy person. All due to a tech who really knew what she was doing and the new DigiTrad.

Oh, damn! Now I suppose I have to go back to work!

I'm glad to hear the new Mac version is working for folks.

There's a Windows build from the same codebase coming "real soon now;" it's good for Windows folks to feel like second class citizens occasionally...

Of course, some of the Windows beta testers complained that the program was too "Mac-like" -- a small price to pay, I hope.

Just so my last post wasn't misunderstood, the inept customer service techs I was referring to were those working for AT&T broadband -- and so was the the wonderful tech who not only knew what she was doing (and what I was trying to do, which was a non-standard installation), but communicated well and obviously enjoyed her job. I praised her to her supervisor yesterday afternoon and was going to send more praises to her head office, but got sidetracked this morning what with all the breaking news, etc.

Bat Goddess
(P.S. -- the Mac DigiTrad is still incredibly awesome and well worth waiting for!)
