The Living Tradition magazine is putting more articles on-line from its back issues, including the series on ballads, begun in issue no. 46. Discussed thus far are Lamkin, Elfin Knight, and Two Sisters. There's an introductory article in No. 45, and in No. 48 a humorous bit on "Living in Ballad Country - Rules for Survival". Go here, and click on "Back Issues".

Also of interest, when you click on the "Issue XX - More information", in addition to the table of contents you get the full set of album reviews for that issue.

I wish I could say that the Lamkin article was useful but I can't since it's essentially a bad rewrite of what Annie Gichrist said away back in 1931.

Jon,

I'm just happy that a magazine closer to the popular end of the scale (rather than academic) has chosen to run such a series. Also, it's nice to be able to read the more of the articles online since access to the magazine is limited from this corner of the world. :-)
