The latest issue of Sing Out! magazine has kudos for Mudcat and Mudcat's own. Joe Hickerson's Songfinder column refers to "two of the most interesting folk-sites on the Internet; Mudcat Cafe and the Digital Tradition. The first is a prolific folk music chat group whose threads are on the web. The latter is a venerable database of folk song texts available to all with Internet access"

He then praises "Mudcat guru Joe Offer" for his work on finding the source of "I am the resurrection and the life" and Susan of DT for finding "Cold winter shadow" right here in the DT!

It makes me proud to be a Mudcatter! Congratulations, Joe and Susan!

Allison

Cool! I knew there must be something that needs to get out to the rest of the world. Good for Joe Hickerson and congratulations to Max for creating such a wonderful site.

...and Joe Hickerson will be doing a live concert on Rich Warren's WFMT-FM show called FOLK STAGE this coming Saturday night---May 22nd. I believe that is after the Midnight Special on that good station. They are no longer on the web so this is really only for those within FM range of Chicago. This concert is a tribute to and a celebration of RUTH FINESINGER KELLAM, Joe's partner, who passed away just a short while ago. Ruth was a wonderful person and a folk fan to the highest of degrees. (I'n angry. We are 100 miles from Chicago and won't be able to hear it.) Joe will be spending most of his time closer to home on the East coast now so those of us who got used to having his grand presence at our festivals and other folk gatherings will be in Hickerson withdrawal well into the next year I'm sure. But thanks for being so close to our scene, Mr H. We will miss you !!!

Art Thieme

Joe is the greatest, and of course he speaks the truth on this one.

He has been my hero ever since he let me play Burl Ives guitar in The Library of Congress. Don't git no better'n that, Paw!!!

Congrats Joe Offer, Max, and Jeff for what you do and the recognition it gets.

Mick

And I think that puts those personal attacks from anonymous GUESTs in proper perspective...

We need to put links to the top message in those threads in future ...
