Subject: FSGW Getaway DOO WOP! 2006 From: Amos Date: 27 Oct 06 - 12:12 AM I am compiling a wee (about 100 pages) PDF booklet of DooWop lyrics from the 50's and 60's for anyone who thinks it might help them enjoy the Doo Wop workshop this year. It's optional, of course -- some folks just want to play the jukebox in their memories! Anyway, here are the titles I have included so far. The big question is whether there are classic Doo Wop songs you feel should be added to it before I offer it to anyone who wants it?
(ignore the page numbers). Regards, A |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway DOO WOP! 2006 From: Amos Date: 27 Oct 06 - 09:27 AM Great additions!! KT, me luv, every choice has certain consequences. If I called you in ALaska from Maryland, I would want to talk for hours, you know. and my cellphone bill would swell up beyond all recognition. And my wife would want to know what sort of a person would make my cell phone bill swell up like that! And I would be at a complete loss for words, which is a condition I cannot abide. But the vibes of DooWop will pour through the ether and being the sensitive and second-sighted sort of lass you are, I am sure they will fill your space with harmonies that day! A |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway DOO WOP! 2006 From: Amos Date: 27 Oct 06 - 08:56 PM Skarpi, my best loved buddy: WHen I used to work in software, this is what we used to call "Requirements Creep"! The collection of DooWop has been subtly re-defined as a collection of rock and roll hits of all kinds. I can't go for that, as I am having to leave too much out as it is just to have a representative cross-section of good DooWop type songs. But next time we meet, bring that book and we will work through it one end to the other!! A |

It's My Party???? Rubber Ball???? There are others. A lot of that stuff is great stuff, but it ain't Doo Wop. I am still going to do "So In Love". I am counting on some decent Doo Wop harmony. I can't wait. This is going to be a fun workshop. Mick |

The Gospel Messengers will be doing a workshop with the Sentinels titled Church And Street Corner Harmony. I wish we could be with all of you, too. Maybe another year.. Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway DOO WOP! 2006 From: Amos Date: 28 Oct 06 - 12:17 AM Mick: The "So In Love" you refer to originally by Patti Page? Like this? Strange dear, but true dear, When I"m close to you, dear, The stars fill the sky, So in love with you am I. Even without you, My arms fold about you, You know, darling, why, So in love with you am I. In love with the night mysterious, The night when you first were there, In love with my joy delirious When I knew that you could care. So taunt me and hurt me, Deceive me, desert me. I'm yours 'til I die, So in love, so in love, So in love with you, my love am I. That the one? A |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway DOO WOP! 2006 From: Amos Date: 28 Oct 06 - 12:20 AM I confess to sticking a few of those in that were my old pure R&R faves, Mick. "It's my workshop and I'll cry if I want to...". A |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway DOO WOP! 2006 From: Big Mick Date: 28 Oct 06 - 12:31 AM Nope, wrong one. As we stroll along together Holding hands, walking all alone So in love are we two That we don't know what to do So in love In a world of our own As we stroll by the sea together Under stars twinkling high above So in love are we two No one else but me and you So in love So much in love So in love So much in love We stroll along together I tell you I need you oh so much I love, love you my darling Can you tell it in my touch When we walk down the aisle together We will vow to be together 'til we die So much love have we two Just can't wait to say "I do" So in love Are you and I So in love Are you and I It was done a few years back by Boyz to Men, but it was originally done in the early 60's. The band escapes me, but I have known the lyrics forever. |

I've included almost everything suggested except for those too far from Doo Wop. And the Billy Joel number, sorry. I agree it's right kinda but it was born too late. We're up to 123 pages of prime DooWop and some other R&R classics. Here's the list of lyrics included in the workbook. I wish I could make printed versions for everyone, but I cannot. Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway DOO WOP! 2006 From: Ron Davies Date: 28 Oct 06 - 01:39 PM I hope we can do some of these Friday night--just standing around--inside or outside. Admittedly I have a vested interest since--CURSES--my choral group has picked guess which weekend to have its first concert--and orchestra rehearsal the day before. Therefore I'll miss probably virtually every workshop--but intend to be there in the evenings-- have to drive back home every night--but it will be real late. And it sure has been fun in past years just standing around singing--as in the dining hall at Ramblewood on Friday nights, as I recall. And if people think that would make it doo-wop overload, so be it--I'll wait til next year. |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway DOO WOP! 2006 From: Nancy King Date: 29 Oct 06 - 04:37 PM Looks like a great songbook there, Amos! Gonna be hard to fit 'em all into an hour-long workshop, though... Um, by the way, please keep in mind that a lot of the people coming to the Getaway are not Mudcatters and so will not have access to -- or maybe "know about" would be a better way to put it -- the download. Let's make sure folks don't feel like they're stepping into a private party. I'm really looking forward to this session, being a doo-wop fan from way back, but I hope it doesn't end up being a bunch of folks reading words off printed sheets... Sorry, didn't mean to be such a downer... :<) Nancy |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway DOO WOP! 2006 From: Amos Date: 29 Oct 06 - 07:02 PM Nancy, I sent the download link to Flawn with a request that he make it known to any FSGWers he might know who would be interested. Having no connection into the FSGW, other than the Mudcatter link, I am trusting that the word will pass to the FSGW that the resource is available for anyone who wants it. Is there someone or someplace else I should be including in particular ? A |
