Subject: RE: Mystery track on Nic Jones album 'Noah's Ark Trap' From: GUEST Date: 19 Aug 12 - 01:27 AM It's a hop-jig, not a reel, and it's sometimes called "Mickey Doherty's" (which it was named on the Boys of the Lough's "Wish You Were Here" album). |

Subject: RE: Nic Jones: Noah's Ark Trapmystery track From: GUEST,Ian cookieless Date: 07 May 09 - 03:13 PM Hmph. I wonder why Nic called the album The Noah's Ark Trap as the idea or wording isn't part of any track on the album (correct me if I've missed something). I wonder idly if the uncredited tune could be the unlisted title track. Perhaps we'll never know. Or perhaps someone has the album and can name that tune in one. |

Subject: RE: Nic Jones: Noah's Ark Trapmystery track From: The Borchester Echo Date: 07 May 09 - 02:51 PM I scarcely thought it was necessary to to add after "performance" the explanation that nine years elapsed between the disbanding of The Halliard and the recording of Noah's Ark Trap by Nic Jones as a solo artist. Though clearly for some there is such a need . . . |
Subject: RE: Nic Jones: Noah's Ark Trapmystery track From: Bonzo3legs Date: 07 May 09 - 02:35 PM "as a result of performance" presumably she means a live track! |
Subject: RE: Nic Jones: Noah's Ark Trapmystery track From: The Borchester Echo Date: 07 May 09 - 01:38 PM The short answer is no and my Ark tape disintegrated long ago so I can't play it. However, Miles Weatherill & Sarah Bell was originally a Halliard song on which Dave Moran did the lead vocal. They got it from a John Foreman Broadside and the tune used is a joint Nic Jones / Dave Moran composition. Later, Nic changed it around a bit and my guess is that the fade-out tune was one of his own. It isn't used on The Last Goodnight recording from 1968 so it's fair to assume that it developed and got incorporated during the 70s as a result of performance. |
Subject: Nic Jones: Noah's Ark Trap mystery track From: GUEST,Ian cookieless Date: 07 May 09 - 12:34 PM I have just finished transferring my old wonderful Nic Jones LPs to CD, and was reminded of the mystery track on The Noah's Ark Trap. On side 2, after Miles Weatherhill and before Isle of France, is a fiddle-led tune that is unlisted on the sleeve. I don't recognise it. Does anyone know what it is? |
