Subject: BS: Can you be addicted to coffee beans? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 May 12 - 05:19 PM I only ask because about 3 or 4 weeks ago I tried crunching a roasted coffee bean that landed in my saucer in a coffee shop. Since then I have loved them - 10 a day or more! I don't drink much coffee - maybe 3-4 cups - but the roasted beans are just delicious! BTW - had none yesterday with no ill effects but enjoyed crunching a few today. Thoughts? DtG |

Subject: RE: BS: Can you be addicted to coffee beans? From: ChanteyLass Date: 24 May 12 - 08:20 PM I've had some of those chocolate-covered ones. Yum! However, in general I avoid coffee beans and coffee unless it is decaf, and even that I drink rarely--except yesterday when the Dunkin Donuts chain sold medium iced coffees for $1 with half going to the children's hospital in Providence, RI. I had two decafs! I think coffee in any form can be addictive, and I have shared homes with two people who couldn't seem to function without a cup of full-strength coffee in their hands. I'm talking about 7 or more cups/day. However, both prided themselves on not drinking alcoholic beverages. This is where people can write that 7 or more cups a day is not enough for them to be addicted! |
Subject: RE: BS: Can you be addicted to coffee beans? From: Jeri Date: 24 May 12 - 08:42 PM I used to drink coffee all day. Yes, it's addictive, but after a couple days of struggling to stay awake, one gets over it. I think the beans can be addictive, but you may just like the taste. If they aren't affecting your health, I wouldn't worry. |
Subject: RE: BS: Can you be addicted to coffee beans? From: Deckman Date: 24 May 12 - 10:27 PM COFFEE IS NOT ADDICTING! Remember THAT. I know ... because I drink, on average, four (4) pots a days. I'm a FINN (Kavi Kuppa) It's NOT coffee ... it's "AMBROSIA" ... it's "NECTOR OF THE GODS." It's "THE STUFF OF LIFE." SHEEUHH ... don't you people know ANYTHING! bob(deckman)nelson |

Subject: RE: BS: Can you be addicted to coffee beans? From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 25 May 12 - 01:57 PM Deckman, I'm with you. From the odor of quality beans being ground to the aroma of coffee freshly brewed from them, and the taste of the product: one of life's major pleasures. |
Subject: RE: BS: Can you be addicted to coffee beans? From: gnu Date: 25 May 12 - 02:32 PM I read that coffee is beneficial in reducing the instance of a number of maladies, especially as one ages. Then again, are eggs good or bad for you this week. >;-) I gave up coffee in 1996. Gave up tea (yes, REALLY!) 2.5 years ago when the ENT told me the stuff was bad for the throat. According to him, only water, milk and friut juices are okay. Of course, everything in moderation eh? |
Subject: RE: BS: Can you be addicted to coffee beans? From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 25 May 12 - 02:39 PM Oh dear no, gnu, they're now saying that fruit juices cause an awful lot of tooth decay! I wish they'd make their blooming minds up! |
Subject: RE: BS: Can you be addicted to coffee beans? From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 25 May 12 - 03:16 PM Fruit juices have a lot of sugar, hence some food police condemn them. All a lot of nonsense. Sugar is bad for the teeth only if they remain coated for long periods of time. I like the statement on a tote bag given out to those who donate to arthritis studies. Take control Keep moving EAT WELL (caps mine) Enjoy life I take the third recommendation to mean don't eschew any food you like; but be informed about them. (Too much exercise, too much almost anything can kill you; be moderate* and enjoy life). *Gnu, above |
Subject: RE: BS: Can you be addicted to coffee beans? From: Stringsinger Date: 26 May 12 - 01:20 PM Caffeine is the element in coffee which is addictive. It is not in chocolate which contains other chemical compounds. The jury is still out on the harmful affects of coffee. |
Subject: RE: BS: Can you be addicted to coffee beans? From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 26 May 12 - 03:21 PM I believe 'they' object to the acidic quality of fruit juices, as it erodes the tooth enamel. But if you rinse your teeth after drinking it what's the harm? I agree, 'Q', the idea is to relax and enjoy life. |
Subject: RE: BS: Can you be addicted to coffee beans? From: GUEST Date: 28 May 12 - 07:01 PM Coffee doesn't kill people; people strung out on 36 cups of coffee a day kill people. |
Subject: RE: BS: Can you be addicted to coffee beans? From: Charley Noble Date: 28 May 12 - 07:25 PM I wouldn't smoke coffee but I'll continue to drink my large mug full in the morning. I do like to hear that it's now proven to be an anti-carcinogen. Most likely that study was funded by international coffee growers but I like the results. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: BS: Can you be addicted to coffee beans? From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 28 May 12 - 09:28 PM Coffee is composed of over a thousand chemical compounds. I figure that with that many of the little suckers in there, anything bad is bound to be counteracted by something good. |
