Subject: Lyr Req: SPANISH Cuatro Milpas alternate version
From: Iona
Date: 03 Aug 12 - 02:16 AM

The Sons of the Pioneers, in the 1940's, recorded a song called Cuatro Milpas. However, as I search for the lyrics, none match their version. Calling all Spanish Speakers! I'd love to know what the words are to this version of the song, but I don't speak spanish so I can't transcribe it of course. Email me at DollyMadisonEtsy {at[ gmail [Dot{ com and I'll send you the audio.....maybe some Spanish speaker can translate it for me and help me get the lyrics so I can butcher sing it and post them here. :D

Thanks!
Iona

Lots of the lyrics sites have this song, but the diacritical marks are all messed up. I found the song at this site, which seems pretty close to a number of recordings I found. I found a Sons of the Pioneers recording on YouTube if somebody wants to attempt a transcription. It's more-or-less the same, except that it begins with the second verse and the first line of the second verse is a bit different. I can't quite make it out - sounds like "ma presadas tus ojos...".

CUATRO MILPAS
(J. F. Elizondo y J. Garcia)

Cuatro milpas tan sólo han quedado
Del ranchito que era mío ¡ay!,
De aquella casita tan blanca y bonita
Lo triste que está.

Si me prestas tus ojos, morena,

Si me prestas tus ojos, morena,

Si me prestas tus ojos, morena,
Los llevo en el alma, que miren allá
Los despojos de aquella casita
Tan blanca y bonita lo triste que está.

Apparently, it found its way to the lyrics sites because it was sung by Francisco Gonzalez on the American Psycho soundtrack.

Also take a listen to this YouTube recording, which includes lyrics.

You can also find the song at elmariachi.com, my favorite source for Spanish lyrics.

Here is the verse as sung by the Sons of the Pionners

Me prestarás tus ojos morena,
en el alma los llevo que miren allá,
los destrozos de aquella casita,
tan linda y bonita,
lo triste que está.

Ooooh, I didn't realize that he had posted it on YouTube. I should have checked fatjud1's channel first thing. He's got tons of SOP stuff... Yes, that's the right version. I'd love to get their dialogue translated. What's so funny? :D
