Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cuando floresca el chuño From: Jim Dixon Date: 02 Dec 05 - 08:31 AM I found a Korean web site that shows a complete video of this song being performed. The site also has these lyrics. I have no idea how accurate they are: Cuando Floresca el Chuno Si tus padres ya'me odian es por mi mala culpa Si las citoyas no silban es por tu gran ausencia Dicen que vuelves, volveras como el rio que se va al lago Dicen que vuelves, volveras como el rio que se va al lago Jumampi Nayampi cuando floresca el chuno K'awan Nok'awan cuando floresca el chuno No digas que has olvidad la tierra donde naciste No digas que has olvidad la tierra donde naciste |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cuando floresca el chuño From: Jim Dixon Date: 07 Dec 05 - 11:33 PM Kitty: Could you (or anyone else) provide a translation into English? I'm especially puzzled by the phrases "Jumampi Nayampi" and "K'awan Nok'awan." They don't look like Spanish. What are they? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cuando floresca el chuño From: Kitty Date: 08 Dec 05 - 05:34 PM Sure, Jumampi Nayampi is Cechua K'awan Nok'awan is Aymara Both are indiginous languages of Bolivia And both sentences mean the same thing: With you, Without you. So the song is like this: If your parents hate me, it is my fault. If the sitoyas(a bird. havent found which yet) dont whistle, it is because of your great absence. They say that you will return (repeated in a dfferent tense as a play on words) Like the river runs to the sea. With you, without you. When the Chuño blooms With you, without you. When the Chuño blooms. Dont tell me you have forgotten the land where you were born. then they repeat from.. they say you will return. The joke in the song is that chuño is a potato that has been processed by freezing and thawing. i.e. it never blooms. sad song, but great beat and fun to dance to, and everyone here in Bolivia knows it...
