Not sure why pavane says it is a "little late". There were no Folk Awards in the years before Nic's accident, and 2012 marked his return to the stage (after 2 short individual appearances in 2010 and 2011)so he couldn't have received this award any earlier! The BBC did give him a lifetime achievement award a few years ago.
Nic's making a number of festival appearances this year ...

It's a little known fact that I taught Nic everything he knows about Music. Everything that is except how to sing & play the guitar & fiddle like no one else I've ever known.However, I do remember showing him a couple of riffs around Bert Weedon's 'Guitar Boogie Shuffle' in the career's room, back in our school days....(-;

Congratulations to Nic, his family and everyone who helped to make this possible.

There is a tribute to Nic - with photo - from Stuart Maconie in this week's Radio Times.

Driving home last night, I heard his award announced on the BBC Radio 4 midnight news.

This morning, I opened The Independent to find an article with two photos of Nic.

Best of all, two weeks ago I saw him perform in Hebden Bridge.

GREAT NEWS. I was booked at Glossop, the week after his accident, I remember arriving at the club and the organiser will williams telling me about his accident on the way home from the club the previous week. I never drive to gigs now, I fell asleep twice myself, but was lucky, this is an incredible achievement, the accident was back in the early eighties, it is just amazing. Dick Miles

It was a poignant and heartwarming sight to see Nic Jones again. I saw him as a very talented performer in the late 60s - early 70s in various folk clubs in Leicester and I think the Tavern at Hitchin. Very sad about his accident but it is great he is back on stage again

Yes well done Nick and the timing was right, he is back and so too are his fans

His wife Julia (and his nurse) and his son deserve great credit for his long recovery, but not without his tenacity and basic talent would he be were he is today

New names particularly females, to replace "our June" were very much in evidence

and No Watersons, Rusby's in sight either

While I believe that Nic deserves an award more than anyone, I'm not convinced that this is necessarily the right category and the right time.
Having said that, I would still rather go to a concert with Nic, listen to his old albums etc before any of the other nominees here and most other singers.
