I'm from Glasgow,Scotland originally, but I emigrated to Australia over 30 years ago as a young man. I was always very interested in folk music in Scotland and continued my interest here.I now live in Canberra, the national capital, where each year we hold a great National and International Folk Festival. You would all be very welcome to attend. It's on for 4 days each Easter.

Hey, you guys, be careful with your blue clickys. Somebody left out the closing quote marks in a link, and locked the thread. Quotes aren't needed if you're doing just a simple link - but if you use quotes, you have to both open and close them within the link. I fixed the offending link, but won't identify the guilty party.

I'm from Mayne Island BC ( 1/2 way between Vancouver and Victoria Pop. 600-800).We have 2 stores, 1 gas station, 2 hotels and a school to gr.8 (High School by water taxie to Saltspring Is.) Lots of talent, good musicians and singers, and a great theater group. Very peaceful and quiet.(especially now that the tourists have gone away!) Worst thing about living here is relying on the BC Ferries for transport. I have spent "many years" waiting for ferries. Check out www.mayneisland.com (our community) for a better idea.

So.... when are each of you going to organize a gathering for your neck of the terrain?

To submit your location, just contact Pene Azul at Mudcat Resources, see Quick Links at the top of the forum page.

Lots of names here that I didn't recognize, but then I am only here 6 months. If you're new, welcome!

Born in St. Louis but grew up in West Africa, which I still think of as "home" in the sense of where am I from. However, I have now lived in central VA since 1985, and consider it "home" in the sense of where do I live - and plan to live. My genes are 75% Eastern Europe, and 25% "American" via (by name) Hughenot France way back in 174x, and (in the interim) a Cherokee woman 6 generations back. I'm also half Jewish and half Quaker: Mom grew up an ethnically Hungarian Serb in Yugoslavia, and was liberated from Auschwitz the day before turning 16. Dad grew up a Philly-area Quaker with a Russian mother, conscientiously objected to WWII, then went to France to write about Existentialism. They met in Paris, soon after the war.

No, Mrzzy, that's not nearly enough. You must write the whole book. I mean it. That was way too condensed. Leaves me breathless for the whole story. Please. Write it.

Born in Viareggio on the coast of Tuscany, lived in Florence until ten years ago when I moved to a town nearby, Barberino di Mugello, well known for the long queues in the motorway, for its delightful Tortelli di Patate and for the tradition of the "Maggiaioli" (May singers".
All this in Italy, of course...
peace.

Ghirotondo: My wife and I just got back from our honeymoon in Italy, including a couple of days in Florence. We enjoyed ourselves immensely!

Born in London, brought up in Edmonton and finally settled in hertford for the last twenty four years. I always said that was as far north as I was going and I was right - I'm heading southwest - to Maine - a small hop of 3000+ miles.

3,500 miles South-SouthEast from London; Thessaloniki, or Salonika, is the "second city" of Greece, the capital of Greek Macedonia and a major port in the Med.

SO - a Greek Macedonian. Except for 1/32nd Roma, from the Vlach tribe (I think they were the sheppards).
