Hi all,

I know I've lately been looking for a guitar (cheap) still am... Looking for a used autoharp that works and won't fall apart... otherwise, cosmetics be darned again... A friend is REALLY into the Carter Family and June Carter Cash... she wants to learn to play the autoharp but she, like me, is strapped for dough.

Anyone with info on where to find one USED UNDER $75...

Hey, Gosp--here we are again. I have not one but two autoharps with which I would be willing to part: The best is a 21 chord Oscar Schmidt Appalachian in a funky gbut sturdy home-made tie-dyed plywood case. It could stand to have a few of the felts (or chord bars) replaced, particularly the C major, the F, and the G7, but otherwise is in like-new condition.

The other is a fifteen chord chromaharp I bought a couple of years ago but have done nothing with except for removing most of the 15 years worth of dust the previous owner had allowed to accumulate on it. It seems to be in good shape mechanically, but could also use some new felt damping pads (it's possible to cut your own felt, slice off the old and replace it, but easier to buy new chord bars.

The Appalachian I'd sell for $125 plus shipping; the Chromaharp for $50 plus shipping.

How's your quest for a guitar going?

There are two Oscar Schmidts' in the local pawn shop here in Tucson, Arizona for around $50.00 maybe less. While this may not do you any good(it's probably a long drive) My point is, check your local pawn shops, over the years I've found some terrific deals. But don't seem to excited about any one particular item. Case in point: If they have a price tag on an item that says,$100. they probably only gave someone $20. for it,if ya offer them $70.,They'll counter offer with $80. and so on and so forth, don't buy until you visit several pawn shops, some of these guys are shysters, others are really decent folks remember, it's your money, and you can spend it anywhere you want to. Good Luck Brother, peace"through understanding"-Biskit-

I always have a few around for sale or trade. I'd trade for a fiddle or a working melodeon or small button accordion. I have maple 15 and 21 bars and at least one chromaharp. All in reasonable working condition. Send me a message if you like...harpgirl

I've been prowling ebay, hunting autoharps. They have a couple there.
They have a lot of autoharps, but only a few used. Of course you might get lucky and get a good new one cheap.

They have a lot of autoharps, but only a few used.

They actually have lots of used ones. I've personally auctioned several recently, I won't give my user name as I don't want to use this forum for 'free advertising'. I currently have a diatonic conversion listed and will be listing another early next month, along with several chromatics. Most of mine are in average to much better than average used condition, accurately described, and high bids are usually in the range of $40 - 80, VERY affordable.

Be wary of listings that are short on description, or contain phrases like 'I don't know anything about autoharps' or 'needs TLC' and be alert for inflated shipping charges. A well-packed autoharp should ship nearly anywhere in the USA for $20 or less.

The new ones are MOSTLY Buy-it-now items, so you can filter those out by searching 'autoharp' and then selecting "Auctions only".

I am looking for a used OS21c made no later than 1979. The body and strings should be in good condition. The chord bar doesn't matter because I will have a new one made.

I've a used 12 chord Chord Harp looking for a new owner, it needs a bass A# string and has a primitive wooden carrying case.
The new owner would collect from Yorkshire.UK

I am interested in purchasing a used one. I have been researching. Dang, it’s giving me a headache. Lol. I play keyboard. Went to university for music. But realize buying an autoharp... could be a pitfall. I noticed a post for ones between $40/$80. That’s more my budget. Looking for an honest, decent one. A or B? Not sure. I know the difference but I’ve been reading for 3 hours.., ?? I generally transpose to key of c, f, I’m an alto so certain keys are in my comfort zone.. I am versatile but I need some minor options. One song I am working on uses Cm a lot. Looked online at ones... if I were looking at a piano, I’d be fine, keyboard, no prob.. flute.. ok too, autoharp? Not sure... thanks for listening. Send me info for purchase... thank you!!!!

Autoharps are heavy. Shipping costs could exceed instrument cost. Where are you located?

Anybody who wants one for shipping costs can have mine - I'm located in the West of Ireland
It needs work but, as far as I can tell, nothing radical
I haven't played it (and couldn't if I woke up one morning with the overwhelming desire to do so) - it is little more than a dust-gathering ornament found in a Manchester junk shop many years ago
PM me

I am restoring OS 21C Autoharps that are from the 78-85 years (sound is much better) but I have some newer models (from the 90's to 2000's) that are not as vibrant sounding as an older body, but I have one '95 OS21C I would sell for 100, plus shipping.

I'm also available for AH restoration if anyone needs it. Located in AZ. meliapeterpolly@gmail.com
