Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: gnomad Date: 22 Jan 02 - 05:36 PM Any repeats expected? Sounds interesting but as so often the Beeb are putting it out when many of us cannot listen. |
Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: CapriUni Date: 22 Jan 02 - 06:39 PM That is 1:30 pm GMT, right? So, (if I do my calculations right), that's 6:30 pm EST... Right smack during my dinner hour. I'll have my computer on and the volume turned up, so I can listen while I digest. (BBC Radio4 streams over the Internet. The homepage is here.) |
Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: nutty Date: 23 Jan 02 - 04:44 AM Sorry CapriUni but its the other way round. EST is behind GMT so 1.30pm GMT is 8.30am EST. |
Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: 8_Pints Date: 23 Jan 02 - 01:20 PM Is it not possible to replay such broadcasts after the event via the BBC web-site? Surely this must be a typical expected benefit. Bob vG |
Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: The Shambles Date: 24 Jan 02 - 04:18 AM The BBC blub states that Bob Copper is treasured in the US but unknown in his home land. It is probably true that people on the street in the UK would be slightly more likely to know Pete's name but not many (if any) would know Bob's. |
Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: CapriUni Date: 24 Jan 02 - 10:24 AM Durn! I slept through it! Was it any good? (And Pete Seeger was a family friend when I was young [Mom was president of Clearwater the year they did the first Revival]) |
Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: Noreen Date: 24 Jan 02 - 11:28 AM (Not til next Tuesday, CU) |
Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: CapriUni Date: 24 Jan 02 - 12:33 PM Oh, right... don't mind me... I just get tuesday and thursdays mixed up, and my brain clock has been all jumbled, away... maybe I need to replace the batteries ;-) |
Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: The Shambles Date: 25 Jan 02 - 12:01 PM Do people generally in the US know who Pete Seeger is? |

Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: CapriUni Date: 28 Jan 02 - 12:52 PM Yes, Shambles, generally, they do -- at least, they know his name. He's appeared several times as a guest on PBS TV specials, and, maybe even more significantly, on Sesame Street (which is iconic in American culture), so if people were of that age to be a fan of that show in the seventies (in their 30's or 40's, now), they probably at least know what he looks like and that he plays the banjo, even if they don't know all the details of his political work. How big a cultural figure is he in Britian, generally? |
Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: The Shambles Date: 28 Jan 02 - 03:19 PM All folkies would know him of course (the 'mad axeman' of Newport). Non- folkies may remember him as he did have minor hit records (Little Boxes). He would certainly be more likely to be generally known here than Bob Copper would. |
Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: Bill D Date: 28 Jan 02 - 04:25 PM I just figured out how to tune in and am doing a test...(good, clear sound)...I hope I can force myself out of bed that early... I have enjoyed both Bob Copper and Pete Seeger for years, and I wish they were on for more than 30 minutes...but.... |
Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: Noreen Date: 29 Jan 02 - 07:28 AM It's on in an hour's time. One good thing anyway about being at home with a poorly daughter! |

Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: CapriUni Date: 29 Jan 02 - 09:10 AM Yes, it was a nice program. Hearin' old Pete again reminded of one little detail Bob forgot to mention: There is a saying printed around the circumfrence of Pete's banjo head. I'm going to be coy now, and post it in BS: Favorite Sayings, 2.

Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: RolyH Date: 29 Jan 02 - 01:51 PM Nice to hear Bob And Pete doing a croaky duo of "Thousands or More" at the end. |
Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: Ron Olesko Date: 23 Jul 02 - 09:35 AM Does anyone know if this program is archived somewhere? I would love to hear a copy. Ron Olesko |
Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: The Walrus at work Date: 24 Jul 02 - 09:06 AM It played again a couple of weeks back (on a Sunday afternoon I think), I switched on and caught the last couple of minutes. I don't know if the BBC could provide a copy on tape, give them a try, the worst thay can do is say no. Walrus |
Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: greg stephens Date: 24 Jul 02 - 09:14 AM There's an intereting comment earlier in this thread, saying the BBC blurb refers to Bob Copper being unknown in his own country. To pose a rhetorical question,I wonder which organisation might be responsible for that state of affairs? |
