This looks like a good one (see this thread), anyone got the tune? Rounder has a 30 second clip here, but it's got the verse and only half of the chorus.

For Oz folks, I'm pretty sure I remember hearing Kate Fagan sing it at Snalbans festival quite a few years ago, sitting outside the Barn, as the sun was setting with a glorious sky - that's why I remember it. I thought what a beautiful song to be listening to while looking at this amazing sunset.I haven't heard it since. It's also possible I might have had the video camera on at the time. I'll go and look.

How would you like it, Jennie-O? I have it now in numbers, but could turn it into a midi file pretty easily. PM me with your email, and I'll send it to you, and to the Mudcat Midi pagemasters as well. I don't think I have Alan's amazing conversion program on this computer, but it might be time to put it in, hey?
Blessings,
Barbara

It seems as though the barring of the ABC is off... I think MIDItext often has that problem. (I usually work from abc.) Also, from the Rounder sound clip it seems that that the first line of the chorus might not go quite so high? Anyone got any clarifying opinions? (I may have to acquire the cd...)

I'm to lead a closing song for an annual board meeting next month and this one looks like a keeper.

The extra beat in the first measure is a pickup beat and should go in its own bar. The translation program -- or else ABC -- has trouble with that. I transcribed it in G, and Si sings it lower, I'm pretty sure, but the note you are questioning in the chorus is right, it happens right after the clip ends (on So or 5 of the scale) and the next note is La or 6. (The verse is in the middle of the clip, and the chorus at both ends, right?)
I did exercise a little liberty in how I transcribed Si's slurred notes, so those may not be exact.I just went and listened to it transcribed back, and a couple of the slurs are off, but other than that, the tune is right. Perhaps I have held the second line of the chorus too long. I will check later this evening, and maybe eliminate the grace notes.
Blessings,
Barbara

OK, it's posted. some of the ties turned out as slurs, and vice versa, but I think it works pretty well. My Noteworthy crashed and burned at Barbara's speed. I sped it up a bit.

Joe posted it on the Mudcat Midi page,(what you can find in the Links section above) and it sounds close to me, Joe. What I was trying to get, and missed on, is Si's way of singing the word 'my' on two notes, re do or 2,1. Then 'home' follows on the downbeat on do or 1. 'Here' and 'Where' are both 321 or mi re do -- in the verse. Line two of the chorus is different.
But you could always buy the recording -- it has a lot of good songs on it "Signs of the Times", McCutcheon and Kahn, and even though it was made in the REagan era, a disgusting number of the songs are still topical.
This is one of my favorite songs, and often makes me cry when we sing it at the end of music camp.
Enjoy.
Blessings,
Barbara

Thanks for the further work on it. Listening to the clip, I can hear that trying to get all the notes would be tricky - what's the basic tune, and what's ornamentation?? I may get the cd anyway, to get the best sense of it.

I'm a bit worried about the crying factor, myself, being susceptible to that sort of thing... maybe I should swap and do the opener instead, except then I'd have to go through the whole search for another song again. ;-)
