No, but festivals might.

I've passed the e-mail to organisers at Sidmouth and Broadstairs, but passing it on to others may be useful.

I've been getting these e-mails for ages. I have just assumed that only Art Centers & places / organisations with finalcial support can afford to book an unknown band from abroad. I don't see many folk clubs being able to go there.
Cheers
Les

Howard,

I hope to be able to catch up with them on their tour, and buy whatever they have available. In the meantime, for anyone living in Britain, Passion Music is a good source of hard to find Eastern European records. (http://www.passiondiscs.com/homepage.htm) I couldn't see anything about DrevA, but I'll certainly be contacting Passion Music about them.

Wow! Thanks Fred - What a sound. Doubly good for me coz my Grandad was a Cossack from The Kuban. I have never seen a group mention specific Kuban music before. Incedentaly Saturday (14th) was PakrowPokrow A huge feast in Russia and particularly for the Cossacks - Who are 'under the protection of Mary'.

I remember Grandad placing a symbolic cover (a white cloth with blue ribbons and a medallion of Mary) over our heads during the feast but can't remember much else. Perhaps this thread was a spin off of being blessed;-)

I will follow this lot with great interest anyway!

Thanks again

DtG

The web site mentions two CDs but doesn't give any information about where or how to obtain them. If anyone manages to track down that information, I'd appreciate it if it were posted here. (I am assuming that the group would like to sell some CDs, even though it does offer some MP3s for free download from the web site.)

I've just received an email from a Russian folk group called Dreva. (see below) I'd never heard of them before, but listening to the sound clips on their website, I was absolutely stunned. These guys are the bizz and no mistake.

They are planning a European tour for 2007 and are looking for bookings.

Anyone who can help them, or who just wants to listen to the wonderful sound clips should visit www.drevafolk.narod.ru.

Cheers,

Fred McCormick

Dear music friends,

Russian folk group "DrevA" (Moscow, Russia) specialized in Russian
authentic songs and music.
We are planning our tour to Europe and would be very glad to take part
in folk-world-street-theatre music festivals... or others cultural
projects in 2007.

You can find our bio, photos, press, and listen our songs and music in
mp3 at our site: www.drevafolk.narod.ru    (Enter for EUROPE)

We will go to Europe by our car. Group begging tour and will be in
Europe from 25 of May 2007. We would be glad to get offers from 5 of
June.

Group "DrevA" performs the songs from the different parts of Russia:
Belgorod, Kursk, Voronezh, Briansk regions, Cossak songs from Don and
Kuban regions.

Repertoire of the group includes ritual, lingering, dance,
drinking-songs, old country games and tradition instrumental music.

The actors perform in the genuine costumes, play tradition instruments
such as: balalaika, violin, Russian accordion, wind-instruments
(caluka, cugikla), tambourine, drum, scythe ...

We will consider with interest any suggestion.
If it needed we would send you some more information about
our folk-group.
