Subject: RE: Article on Shelagh McDonald From: Matthew Edwards Date: 06 Mar 13 - 08:12 AM What a fascinating story, though I'm afraid I don't remember her name at all from 40 years ago. Thanks for posting this. Matthew |
Subject: RE: Article on Shelagh McDonald From: Tattie Bogle Date: 06 Mar 13 - 07:36 PM Delighted to say she came to our local pub session last night with a couple of friends: I wouldn't have known who she was but for the fact that I'd read something about her a few days ago and she introduced herself by name, She brought her guitar and did a couple of songs with it, but a lovely version Dowie Dens a capella. Very nice voice. |
Subject: RE: Article on Shelagh McDonald From: LesB Date: 07 Mar 13 - 07:42 AM We were delighted at The Bothy recently when at a Steve Tilston gig, Shelagh turned up & did a floor spot. No doubt Clive will appear in due course to give a fuller account about how it came about. Cheers Les |
Subject: RE: Article on Shelagh McDonald From: GUEST,Folknacious Date: 07 Mar 13 - 12:35 PM There's a bigger piece that was published in Froots last autumn on line here. And a clip of Let No Man Steal Your Thyme filmed this January at her first "official" gig at the Green Note on YouTube |
Subject: RE: Article on Shelagh McDonald From: GUEST,Clive Pownceby Date: 08 Mar 13 - 01:55 AM That's a fine YouTube clip. Her 'Rigs O' Rye' back in January at Steve Tilston's gig was equally spine-shivering. Steve had made contact with her - they're old friends, after getting her 'phone number from Ian Anderson following the fRoots piece and passed the number on to me. We'd often talked over the years at Festivals etc. along the lines of "I wonder what......" and it was just a jaw-dropping experience to meet her when he brought her along to his gig in Southport. I had loved the albums back in the day and as for over-production, well ANY sort of production was pretty rare back in 1971 - we were all just youngsters experimenting with what could be done. Shelagh herself will tell you that she was simply shepherded into the studio, meeting most of the session musicians for the first time and told to get on with it - "this is where it's at" sort of attitude. Spent some time with her in Glasgow last month and it's such a pleasure to see her back - alive and well would've been good enough but she's writing new songs and really enjoying playing again, whilst not rushing things and taking her time over full-blown gigs. She's my new best friend!!!! |
Subject: RE: Article on Shelagh McDonald From: GUEST,Folknacious Date: 08 Mar 13 - 08:58 PM I've just discovered that she has a Facebook group dedicated to her, though there doesn't seem to be any sign of her joining in. It looks like she has some Scottish gigs coming up. |
