This Sunday March 8th, Pete is on a re-run of the hit UK TV variety show "Sunday Night at the London Palladium" from 1965. I remember seeing Pete on this show but I thought that it was 1964. Anyway the appearance I recall begins with Pete playing "Freight Train".
The show is on the "Talking Pictures" channel at 9pm

Thanks for that tip.
Does anyone recall the Beatles appearing on that show, in possibly their last time there? They were headlining it by then, but the show started with the curtains opening on the Fab Four in silhouette, and the audience started screaming in delight, but then the stage lights came on and we saw it was just Bruce Forsyth and three others with brooms and a collection of dustbins about to clean the stage. My father, who was worried about all this idolisation of pop stars, thought it was hilarious, as did I, but it was unhip to think so at the time.

Many thanks - I think this was the first time I heard a 12 string guitar played. It was just after Pete had a hit with Little Boxes.

looking forward to it immensely!

A bit belated but, like Tunesmith, I thought Pete Seeger was on "Sunday Night at the London Palladium" in 1964. He was.

I've done a bit of checking and the date was 10 May 1964. Bruce Forsyth was the compere and the other guests were Jackie Vernon and the Del Rey Brothers.

As to what he sang that night, I have found no information.

I've been making enquiries through friends and one of them came up with another date - 23 February 1964.

I looked up the TV schedules that day and, lo and behold, Pete Seeger was on that night, too. Twice in one year.

Bruce Forsyth, again, was the compere and the bill included The Three Monarchs (a harmonica trio). My friend also found The Beverley Sisters mentioned which wouldn't be too surprising but they were not listed in the source I located.

One of the first great influences that led to the life I've had. I'm sure "Oh Mary Don't You Weep" was in the set.

Towards the end of 1963, BROADSIDE (the New York one) carried a summary of Pete's August '63-June '64 world tour.

The 23 Feb 64 "Sunday Night at the London Palladium" appearance was already booked - maybe on the back of "Little Boxes" (is the timing about right?).

He was due to come to London on 16 Feb 64 for two weeks in Britain, before heading off to mainland Europe, returning to Britain at the beginning of May 1964.
