Subject: RE: Belfast Mill and other songs From: Trish Date: 04 Oct 98 - 08:09 PM I looked up Mo Ghile Mear Joe. It was a nice song but not the one I was after. I was looking for the Jacobite version about Bonnie Prince Charlie. Sting sang it on the Chieftans album. Thanks none-the-less. Take care, Trish |
Subject: RE: Belfast Mill and other songs From: Trish Date: 04 Oct 98 - 07:57 PM It might seem hard to believe Joe but I did search the data base first. Obvouisly I did not do a very good job. Thanks for the tip about the square brackets and of course for your time and effort. All the best, Trish |
Subject: RE: Belfast Mill and other songs From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Oct 98 - 03:23 AM Trish, I believe that previous discussion has established that "Belfast Hill" is a variation of Si Kahn's "Aragon Mill," which is in the database (put Aragon in the search box in the upper-right corner of the page. I'm sure you'll find another of your longs if you put [long black veil] in square brackets in the search box - the square brackets make the database search for an exact phrase. Click here and click here for previous discussion of "Belfast Mill." Mo Ghile Mear (click here) is in the database - you really should have looked first.... A forum Search turned up Irish Heartbeat (click here). Click here for a discussion of "Barley Mow," and search the database for [barley mow] and you'll find the song. OK, so that's a good start for you. Next time, how about searching the database and the forum first, and then asking for the songs you didn't find? In fact, it's best to start a new thread for each song you want, with the name of the song in the thread title - but first search to see if the song is in the database, or if it has been posted in the forum. Otherwise, people may start muttering things behind your back.... -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Belfast Mill and other songs From: Trish Date: 04 Oct 98 - 02:16 AM Could I please add a couple of more songs. Those being "If I don't bring you flowers", "Mo Ghile Mear(Our Hero)", "The long black veil" and "Good luck to the Barley Mow" I know this adds up to alot of songs but...Love Trish |
Subject: Belfast Mill and other songs From: Trish Date: 04 Oct 98 - 12:38 AM I was after the lyrics to the following songs please: 1. Viva Scotia. This is a song which is performed by a Scottish Folk Band which plays out of South Australia called The Borderers. It is about Scotland and her chance for freedom once more via the devolution process. 2. Uisge B'eatha (The Water of Life). By the same group as above. It's about whiskey and the libido. 3. Irish Heartbeat by Van Morrison 4. A man is in love. This appeared on the After Hours cd by The Wild Rovers. 5. A sniper's promise. This song was also on the above cd 6. Belfast Mill by the Fureys. I was somewhat surprised that I could not find this song. Maybe I looked in the wrong places. 7. William Taylor. Performed by Patrick Street. If anyone can be of any assistance with any of the above I would be very grateful. Love to all, Trish |
