I sang "I've got a dog and a good dog too" and the Innocent Hare in Castleconnell, Co. Limerick last Tuesday and "the Bold Fisherman" in Góilín last Friday.

Keep singing Copper songs.

George Henderson

We only heard about Bob after last Monday's session at Herga, so tonight, when we had Ramskyte as guests, I sang the Innocent Hare. I remember Bob miming it in the Dove at Sidmouth when we had a silent singaround (the only sort then allowed in the Dove) in the Taffaid week (benefit events during Folk Week for Taffy Thomas after his heart surgery in the mid 1980s).

Oh, yes, I almost forgot to mention that at our monthly singing session in the San Francisco Bay Area we had a theme of Copper Family songs. I got there a bit late but Copper Family songs I heard sung included:

Adieu Sweet Lovely Nancy

Babes in the Wood

Brisk Young Ploughboy

By the Green Grove

The Forsaken Mermaid

Hard Times of Old England

The Lark in the Morning

Oh Good Ale

Spencer the Rover

Sportsmen Arouse

Thousands or More

Come Write Me Down (The Wedding Song

At the monthly shanty sing in San Francisco this past Saturday I sang The Forsaken Mermaid and dedicated it to Bob. It was quite wonderful to have about 100 people singing along on the chorus.

I didn't actually get a chance to sing it -- my voice proved still iffy after the last couple week's exertion and Tom wasn't feeling great so we left the session early -- but I was planning on singing "Innocent Hare."

Such a legacy of fine song! And so many more of those songs for me to learn!

Sang Adieu Sweet Lovely Nancy in Kinvara in Galway last night. Didn't mention Bob specifically - but a few more Copper-songs appeared as if by magic...

Karen K who is visiting from the USA, Robert O'Mahoney and myself visited the Black Horse at Rottingdean this afternoon where we met and shared memories with four locals who knew Bob very well. We sang Oh Good Ale, Sweet Lemeny, Banks of Mossom and Thousands or More.

We knew Bob wasn't very far away......

And at a couple of gigs on the New England side of the pond, Tony & I sang Spencer the Rover, Sportsmen Arouse, Thousands or More.

Les, it's certainly true that many folkies don't use Mudcat, and indeed many have never heard of it. And others monitor it but post rarely, if ever.

I was having a little supper party at home the night we heard the news. So we had a bit of a sing song, with the unusual line-up of Rory McLeod, mark Burke, Kate Barfield and me. The Copper songs we did were "Adieu Sweet Lovely Nancy"(with trombone) and "O Good Ale".

When I started this thread I imagined lots of people across England/uk/ English folk singing world would be singing Copper songs for Bob, at Folk Clubs this week. I still believe that to be true.

Perhaps lots of folkies don't use the Mudcat?

Paul and I sang 'Two Young Brethren" last night at "A Bit of FOLK on the Side" (ABOFOTS) in Maleny, SE Queensland ... then raised a glass to Bob - as we had done minutes before to Sydney, after Paul sang "Silver in the Stubble"!

Cheers!

I sang 'Adieu Sweet Lovly Nancy', 'Thousands or More' & 'Oh Good Ale' on Thurs at a club where they wouldn't know a folk song if it jumped up & bit them on the arse. There were puzzled stares at the mention of Bob Copper, but I didn't care it was my tribute.

Just out of interest, how many people sang a Copper Family song at a folk club for Bob this week and what was the song?
