I, too, can't get the camp's "Virtual Tour" to work with either Safari or Firefox. Which leads me to an important question... I'll probably need to use my wheelchair this year if we day-trip as we usually do. If the workshops/songswaps are held in the cabin common rooms, will I be able to get in? Will there be an accessible toilet, with grab bars and a seat that's higher than 12" off the floor? Where will the evening concerts be held?

Mary...Charley's opening post says:

". Most of the buildings are wheelchair accessible, although three of the lodges still aren't."

The whole place is amazingly flat and easy in 'most' places.

I was there, but don't remember the restrooms in detail...we will find out and post the necessary info.

Bill, you said it was Java. The link for the cabin says "javascript:cabin()". I dunno. Apparently, the page linked to above was (not completely) copied from http://www.virtualoutfitter.com/tours/westriver/tour.htm. This one works. It's fairly superficial. The cabin looks nice, but there's no view showing whether or not there are steps, or whether the bathrooms are wheelchair accessible.

Mary--

I specifically remember the bathrooms in the retreat center having grab bars and being built to ADA specs. I think the restrooms in at least one of the cabins are likewise, and there may have been additional bathrooms the layouts of which have slipped my memory. Evening concerts will probably be in the dining hall (post-dinner-clean-up), and jam sessions will be held all around. Two (or perhaps three) of the cabin common rooms we'll use aren't wheelchair accessible (or weren't when we toured last fall), and we'll have to make sure that the workshops you want to attend are in the accessible places. Given the interchangeability of most of the common rooms, it should be an easy thing to put the ones you want to go to in the accessible ones, providing of course that you can make up your mind which of the too many simultaneous workshops you want to be accessible.

Yay Jeri--
The virtual tour link works for me too.

For others who can get it: "Waterfront" scans around the camp. The building beyond the gazebo and grill is the retreat center. The building with the big windows and the sign of the cross next to "West River" is the dining hall. My guess is that the dock can accommodate those wishing to sail to camp.

"Cabin" shows the common room of one the lodges. There are five such common rooms. If memory serves, the doors on either side of the water cooler lead to bathrooms. The other doors lead to short corridors on either side off of which are 4 bedrooms each. The extreme right edge of the pan is the front side of the building, with an entry porch and the main entrance door.

Great, Jeri...that works. Glad you sorted out where it was supposed to go!(I see we are both right...it's a javascript link to a Java applet. My original attempt said "applet not found"....I guess the link was misnamed or something)

Not a terribly enlightening 'tour', but it does at least give the flavor of the view and the cabin interior

Well, I'll either have sold the Kitchen and be temporarily rich and unemployed and come, or I'll not have sold it and need a break badly and come, so either way . . . I haven't looked into flights yet, I brought my fiddle as carry on on Aerlingus last week to Ireland and had no trouble. It's probably more dependent on currant carry on policy of your particular air line and size of instrument. One of the guys I was travelling with checked his guitar. He got an official Taylor shipping box, reinforced it at the corners, padded it well, checked it and it was fine (quite large, but fine)

Looking forward to singing until all hours.

Re: rooming for singles and couples:

As almost every room has four beds, and it will be quite crowded this year, your best bet is to figure to which other single people or couples you'd like to share with. We can pretty much guarantee single sex rooms, if desired, and we can certainly put two compatible couples together.

note...the actual 'bedrooms' are pretty small. Room to stow yer stuff in the corner and change clothes, but certainly not a gathering place.

It will be a bit like some of the smaller rooms at Ramblewood, only 'cleaner', two level, and WARM!

Charlie--(and/or Joe et. al.) I'm wondering, would this thread best be left to deal with logistics, requests, program, etc? That might keep important information more accessible. Another thread could be started for peoplw to Check in, communicate more directly with each other. commisserate, dream about.

Or not.

Just an idea to consider.

Thanks for the zoom of the area Bill D. I could navigate the twists & turns but my baby brother said stealing his boat wasn't written into the Bible or the Constitution so it'd have to be "over his dead body". Bye-bye baby brother.

I'll be looking to car pool with anyone willing, going from NH or Boston & back again. At least 3 days longer doesn't matter. Can share all expenses & driving. Yes, I can drive now, again? The Dr.s said that I'm medicated now so it's ok or was that I'm ok now that I'm medicated or was it I'm ok to medicate?

Sigh, is it that time again? So much has happened since that lovely trip. Wakana and I had such a good time. I don't know when we'll be able to return. Definitely not this year, probably not next year either. I hope it isn't too long.

I wish all of those who go have the best time ever. I hope the new site is great and the weather is incomparable. Good luck to you who do the work and those who will enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Looking forward to the Getaway!

Especially since, a few grueling business trips notwithstanding, I'm not working 60+ hours a week and pulling my hair out like I was last year. I had a reasonably OK time, but not as good a time as previously. Because I'd been working so much OT and was generally distracted, I hit the Getaway woefully unprepared and under-practiced, plus was so exhausted I pretty much crashed out after the Saturday night concert.

This year I should be able to concentrate on polishing off old songs and hopefully even learning some new ones! Also might even not turn into a pumpkin at midnight...

Carole,

Will the airlines let you carry cheese? Real Cheshire cheese is one of my favorite things, and it is hard to come by here, and hideously expensive when found. If I have to pay a fortune for the priviledge, I would be much happier knowing that the money will go to bring good folks to next year's Getaway! Or is there some amazing Welsh cheese that we never even see here?

In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing you.
