OK, ya don't have ta say ya going or knot because ya may already have posted that on a different thread. But that 'Who's Knot Thread' was getting to be the answer to "Why We Sing The Blues". Almost like takin depression 101 in high school, an it ain't like that. These folks that are "has beens" but this year they're "crying can't's" know what there missing an don wanna miss it butts.....

Ok now I wanna let ya know that in some other thread it's been mentioned if it's money see one of the commitee people, they said the scholarship fund is healthy. And a good thing too, cause the last 2 yrs when I wasn't (healthy) & ta boot I was hard strapped for cash cause of it, it saw me through & it was a good thing cause it helped me ta get better & I'm glad to be in a better place now but the best place ta be come November is here at the Getaway. Even you folks that are thinking that ya don't know anyone or yor only a newbe or just a recent guest ta MudCat or yar too shy or that yar don't really sing or play stumpin it's still a place that ya gotta go to. Ya may not believe it till ya see & hear it but after ya've been there you'll know that there's a sort of family tie formin in yar gut that'll grow & drive ya to come again the next year & the years after.

So anyway, who's going besides me???

i'll be going in the company of gene rosenthal and (his wife) sandra koppel. i remember getaways going back to the late sixties. i am always hoping to find people who want to join me at a piano to do folk blues, jug band tunes, and primitive gospel. i will bring my fiddle and some lead-free beverage. my friend charlie bean says he plans to come, a fine guitarist with a great voice.

I will probably come out on Saturday as a day-tripper (a one-way ticket, man), which means getting there for lunch, staying through dinner and the concert, then going home to the comfort and accessibility of my own bed and cats. (When the FSGW finds a Getaway site that not only has handicapped accessible bedrooms but also provides Rent-a-Cats for the night, I might consider staying over again...)

Marge and I have signed up! Although Marge is not so sure about these bunk beds. I guess this will be about number five or six which makes me a newbie. The Getaway is the first thing that goes up on my calendar each year. The blend of the FSGW crowd and the Mudcatters seems to have worked out just fine. It is a mutual admiration society. The people you see on these threads is only a portion of who shows up in real life.

thanks for the hello, rita. i saw your hubby for a moment at the takoma park festival. he seems like he's holding up. you both are very sweet people. last night my wife pearl agreed to come to the getaway for saturday and sunday. so that's great. she has gotten good on mouthharp - we play a lot of fiddle-tune duos and of course she's in my jazz band barrelhouse brawl where she sings and blows the blues.
gene rosenthal is adelphi records and sandra is his fairly new wife, niece of ted koppel. she has moved here from california.

Expecting perhaps a bit of cognitive dissonance this year. Usually Getaway is before the also-always-on-our-calendar Ohio Valley Filk Fest. So we go from the traditional songs to the filk, which makes a nice historical progression. This year OVFF is **first**, so coming to the Getaway's gonna feel like time travel! 8-)

I'll be there. Just found out Friday that my business, Susan's Kitchen, did sell, so I'll have cash (for a short time anyway) and time both at the same time. Looks like I'll be flying down to visit my Brother in DC before and my Sister in Harrisonburg VA after. Any chance of a ride from DC with you Gut Bucketeer? Anyone going in a Harrisonburg direction afterwards?

Oh, and looking forward to more fiddling Jbailes. I think we sawed out some tunes late into the night a couple of years ago (and you were up in VT recently also)

And I'll deal with a top bunk, as long as I remember where I am in the morning.

I'm really tickled to see so many 'repeat offenders' like Micca and Kat (you guys robbing banks or do you have frequent flyer miles?)and LEJ and Amos (bring your lovely wife!!!!) Art, how cool that you guys will be there (bring us some of that desert air). The Getaway has been a favorite weekend since we first went a decade ago.

So I've been waffling, mainly because of the drive and the money. I explained to the endodotist who did my root canal today that the greatest amount of pain I had was in my pocketbook. Even so, I've been planning for the dental stuff AND the Getaway, so my biggest problem is that I'm stressing out for a stupid reason. As for the drive, I'll just try to leave at 6AM.

I got my plane tickets yesterday, so now I'm looking for a ride. It will sure be nice to be at the Getaway again. I arrive at BWI* 10:30 PM Thursday and I plan to stay at a motel nearby, and then leave via BWI late Monday afternoon. Anybody able to pick me up near BWI sometime between 10 and noon on Friday?
Or is anybody coming in via BWI who wants to share the cost of a rental car?

I'm also going to check with some other folks who attend the Getaway who live out that way. All of my checking is on hold until I get back from a 10 day trip. Hope air fares haven't gone through the roof, although there's always the train.

My plan is to drive up Thursday and spend the night in a motel somewhere around Washington. I can be flexible about arrival time at the Getaway, and could give some one a ride from either of the Washington Airports. Willing if needed to go to Baltimore to pick up at that airport.

One caveat. If something happens so that Dani can come at the last minute, will not be driving up until Friday morning. sadly though, I don't anticipate that happening.

I was trying to decide which Getaway thread to put this on and this looked as good as any...

My son's best friend (who had the nerve to move to Florida their last year of high school) Jed has engineered it so he can join us at the Getaway this year. His plane gets into BWI around 6:30 p.m. Friday. Will there be anyone who could give him a ride at that time? Or is there someone else who needs a ride from BWI at that time so we could make good use of shared resources?

I will gladly go to pick him up from BWI, but I wanted to find out if someone else would already be traveling that route at that time.

I spoke with Allan two weeks ago. He and Carmen expect to be at the Getaway. It depends on their job situations. Allan is working a lot of overtime because another employee is ill.
