I have a 2004 Subaru Outback wagon .... I consider myself guilty in not owning a vehicle that is more 'environmentally friendly' in it's gas consumption per mile (28 mpg highway). In retrospect we don't put many miles on in our driving .... 28k on the odometer in 2 years.

93 Ford Fairmont Ghia station wagon. Runs like a dream. Drinks too much petrol. Much more economical on the open road though, and I can fit all my camping gear in it. However it does have one rather irritating habit.

For the first time ever, I have actually given this car a name - Maggie. That's because when the petrol gets low, a very annoying alarm starts up, and will not stop till I buy some. The sound reminds me of the baby magpies around here going "yark yark yark" at their parents and demanding to be fed - so Maggie she is!

Aging Chevy Astro van and an even more aging BMW 528 with over a quarter of a million miles on it.....and it still is driven almost 100 miles a day taking Karen to work.

I don't drive a car so I feel very superior, I drive a bicycle, which in the last 2 and a half years has been getting this 60-y-old more fit.

I love driving,and just not into cars,tho' driven a few.

2003 Kia Spectra five door. It's a good little car that gets about 25 to 30 miles per gallon depending on driving conditions. We use it as little as possible. Our other vehicle is a dodge cargo van that we needed for hauling our trailer, but we're going to be selling the van in the not too distant future.

But I love the Subarus. We used to have a Forrester until it got killed by a flying deer. I wish Subaru would produce a hybrid version of the Forrester.

1999 Toyota Corolla. Excellent mileage. We have about 15,000 miles on it, which shows you how much we drive.

We have a friend who owns a Prius. He loves it. The Prius wasn't out yet when we traded in our 1983 Honda Civic.

The BIG one is a 92, and still has just over 92,000 on it....the little one is a '95....buried in the snow at back is a 77 GMC Sprint..(El Camino with different grille) it doesn't run anymore, but did last Summer..)

'99 Ford Ranger with 162k miles. My ex-husband's company makes all the nuts and bolts for the Ranger and he was a tight ass so I know it won't fall apart on me....LOL!

3 x year old Volvo v70 SE Estate (station wagon in US I think) Venetian Red with black leather. Loads of extras. Owned it from new. Selling it soon in favour of something smaller and more economical.

Toyota Avelon, 2001, but effective tomorrow, Toyota Avelon, 2006. I hate cars. They are just a superior way of getting around. I call my dealor, tell him what I want and he brings it to me and I many times don't even test drive it. I also don't haggle at all. I am terrible at it. Toyotas are always what I buy, and since I am such a "Good Customer" aka sucker, I get wonderful service always. Keeps me from being frustrated.

I've got a 2002 Subaru Legacy GT wagon. Love it. Bought it used and got them to reupholster it in leather, as a condition of the sale. Myself and the animals are too hard on cloth and we usually keep a car for at least 20 years.

We seriously considered a Smartcar, but I couldn't figure out how to get the dogs, hay or building materials into it or how it would manage up here in the hills when it snowed. The Smartcar is also a Mercedes subsidiary and the Mercs have a hideous reliability record.

My husband has an '86 Toyota Supra with a gazillion miles on it. Good car, but its useless when it snows and it does guzzle even more gas than the Sub. We've got to be able to get in and out with at least one car in the winter, because both are used for business purposes as well.

He's still finding himself hard pressed to come up with an alternative he likes, so he continues to keep the old bugger running. He's over 6' and went to try out a Toyota Yaris recently, but couldn't get the seat far enough back to accommodate the length of his legs. You'd think after all these years, the Japanese would be a little more accommodating of the North American market on all their car models.

A little blue Suzuki van. I bought my first one in 1979 and this is the third. There's enough room in the back to put several kids(only one was mine) and the dog as well, or just the shopping.
I even slept in the back of the first one - there's about 5 foot 6 inches to stretch out in (and I'm 5'2").
It's not fast but the size suits me and it's very economical.

Mine's a '96 Ford Contour; my wife's is a '04 Toyota Camry. We've gotten 34 mpg with the Camry on a long level cruise at freeway speed.

2000 Toyota Corolla which I purchased used a couple of years ago - it's a solid, economical vehicle which I plan to keep for at least 10 more years.

I also have a 1981 Ford F150 pickup which I've been trying to get into shape after it had languished out beside the barn for several years. I'm putting a wooden flatbed with racks on the back as the bed was totally rusted out. Have done most of the body work on the cab and it is partly painted Tremclad red. I always wanted a red truck.

'69 Type II? Very cool... Not much fun on windy days, however...
I drove a '60 Type II for 15 or so years... It was a panel and had doors on both sides... Went thru at least 3 trannies and several engines but, hey, pull rear bumper (4 bolts) an' enginbe shroud ( another 4 bolt) and the engine (another 4 bolts, okay many times just 3 since lotta folks don't replace the one over the clutch lever) and wah-lah...

I don't have a car; I use the bus, taxis and friends. Sold my car when I came to Juneau, Alaska. The best little car I've ever had- it had the normal four gears plus reverse and then four more in a lower set up. I used to say that little car would climb a wall. The worst mileage I ever got from it was 34 mpg - loaded with luggage and four people going over Willamette Pass in Oregon - in normal driving I got 42. It was a Plymouth Champ hatchback, now discontinued. Of course.

I have a friend who has a small Suburu station wagon and he says he gets 52 mpg.

If I'd had a career instead of 'adventures', I'd have a Subaru.

I have never owned a new car....closest was a 1975 VW Rabbit when there was a modicum of insurance money to whoop off....and THAT was no picnic! It was one problem after another..(chief being that the wiring was not protected under the car...drive thru a puddle and it would short out) It also had an early type catalytic converter that crumbled into dust and plugged the exhaust.

Toyo a nogo in the snowo-o? The Bimmer was typically worthless in the snow and ice too until I bought another set of factory alloy rims from a wrecked '88 and mounted up studded tires on all four corners. She's great now, even greater on the ice we get around here.

The noise of those four studded tires though.........We call her Uber-Panzer in the winter.

Reasonably good mileage but not as good as the Nissan Sentra that finally gave up the ghost a couple of years ago.

Worst car I ever owned was a Volvo 240 - Most atrocious engineering I've ever seen.

When I'm not riding my bike (human powered variety), a SUV ... but a hybrid one. We figured one SUV for hauling skis, bikes, and kayaks would come in handy.

Had to put chains on the SUV last Sunday (Easter). Blizzard in the Sierras, Carson pass closed for avalanche control, and chain controls on all passes.

My old car (supplanted last December, but still in the driveway)? '85 MR2, my steady for 20 years, and 192K miles on it....

A 1993 Subaru Legacy, the first AWD vehicle I've owned and it really did work, except to keep me out of the way of a Mass. driver backing out of a parking space. His insurance company "totaled" it, although it is stull perfectly drivable now. I hope to be driving a 96 Outback. I've driven Subaru Station Wagons for 27 years now, get 26 - 28 MPG, and lots of carrying space, so I'll proably continue with this make.

4x4 Chevy Silverado, 4 door, deisel mega truck. I love it. It takes me wherever I want to go in style and carries the whole fishing party while pulling the travel trailer. It ain't too great on fuel, but its worth the cost.

Spaw, no point in putting them on the Supra. Fortunately we can usually manage with just one functional vehicle if the weather gets dirty.

Mike... "It ain't too great on fuel..." Hehehe. You could always buy a Smart Car or somethin like one a them there Suzies and keep it in the box of the Chevy so you can go for more fuel on a long trip.

My 8 1/2 year old Ford F150 4X4 (gas) extended cab gets 7.3 kpl on the highway with 700 pounds of cargo. On Goodyear AT's. I have no idea what the consumption is at crawl... and, she can crawl.

Was told I was mad for buying one but my 2003 Fiat Stilo is a dream of a car. Diesel - 50+ MPG. Loads of room. Takes me all over the country in comfort and safety. Only problem is I bought the model without aircon. Haven't missed it up to now but may do if and when we get a very hot summer.

Also got a 1985 Honda CX500 Custom but am having probs getting new HT leads so it's 'sorn'd' at the mo:-(

1990 Pontiac Bonneville which I got used from my neices' grandmother-the proverbial once in a lifetime deal of the century grandma rarely drove it practically new but it's older kinda car. Mileage is definately better than any SUV & it holds lots of instruments. Plus, it's comfortable to sit in.

My little present to myself is now for sale, proving there is a God, and circumstances change.

A 1989 5 litre 370BHP Porsche 928S4, silver, with burgundy leather cabin, topping out at 175mph, capable of less than 7 miles a gallon, but on cruise inside legal limits, the right side of 24mpg.

Wanted one ever since Tom Cruise oozed 'Porsche, there is no substitute!' in Risky Business.

So why am I selling her? Because I feel a bit of a wanker driving her, and enjoy the anonymity of my pipe and slippers Peugeot 406, although my right foot is a lot heavier than them Ducks!

also a 1998 Dodge neon. Basic, very good milage, snappy, other than that, nothing special.

2005 Nissan Altima. If I play Trunk Tetris well enough, we can fit two suitcases, three guitars, and our songbook bags. I'm averaging 23-25mpg depending on how much highway driving I've been doing.

At this time, I'm driving my 2001 3/4 ton GMC Savana cargo van. It's a major gas-hog, but a heavy-duty van is essential for my business. I ordinarilly use it for business only, but our other car died a few months back and I haven't yet made enough money this year to replace it. I hope to pick up something economical within the next few weeks. We don't do too much personal driving, but we do live 50 miles from the nearest city and average a couple of trips in per week. A decent second-hand economy car with around 30 MPG would pay for itself in fuel savings in about a year.

I drive a 2001 Ford Explorer. I had a Geo Metro for the longest time but after a few trips walking up the mountain during a snow storm because I couldn't get home and after the death of a co-worker driving the same kind of car in a minor accident (something that should NOT have resulted in death if the car had provided ANY kind of protection), I now have the 4x4 beast. It IS a gas hog but the safety issue on bad roads is worth it to me....besides, I am eyeing a scooter for nice weather use...they top out at 65 miles per hour and 90 miles to the gallon.....WOOOO HOOOO...I wave to my scooter (got it all picked out) every time I drive by the dealer.
