Subject: Lyr Add: BARGES^^^ From: Peace Date: 06 Sep 07 - 07:34 PM I have to go. If you mean "Barges", there have been some threads on it before. If you don't know how to access those threads, someone will help. If no one does, here's one set of lyrics. It's from the www, somewhere. BARGES Out of my window, looking in the night I can see the barges' flickering light Silently flows the river to the sea And the barges too go silently CHORUS: Barges, I would like to go with you I would like to sail the ocean blue Barges have you treasures in your hold Do you fight with pirates brave and bold Out of my window, looking in the night I can see the barges' flickering light Starboard shines green and port is glowing red I can see them flickering far ahead CHORUS How my heart longs to sail away with you As you sail across the ocean blue But I must sit beside my window dear And watch you sail away from here CHORUS Out of my window looking in the night I can see the barges' flickering light Harbor ahead and anchorage in view I will find my resting place with you CHORUS Away from my window on into the night I will watch 'til they are out of sight Taking their cargo far across the sea How I'd wish that someday they would take me CHORUS Out of my window looking through the night I can see the barges' flickering light People are sailing far and far away And I hope to go with them one day CHORUS^^^ |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: the girl scout song Sailin' Away From: GUEST,prior Camp Judy Layne 1990-1993 Date: 16 Mar 15 - 11:06 AM So I LOVED this song when sitting around the campfire. I used to have the songbook that had this in it, but my parents got rid of it once I went to college. I added a third verse that was missing. Enjoy! Sailin Away 1 Sailin' away from Boston town/ Leavin to sail the horn around This is where I long to be/ Sailin on the lonely seas Look away---Hey away--Sail away Chorus A cold north wind is blowin' hard And I'm bound for better seas my boy Bound for better seas Look away--Hey away---Sail away 2 There is not one boy (girl) who's true or kind There is not one (boy) girl who I call mine Starry nights and stormy seas are all I've got that's true to me Look away--Hey away---Sail away 3 I once did swear to quite the seas For a blue eyed boy from Kentucky He loved money more than me so on these seas I'd rather be Look away—-Hey away—-Sail away |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: the girl scout song Sailin' Away From: GUEST Date: 10 Apr 15 - 11:35 AM I am making a cd of my favorite songs and was so happy that just a month ago you posted all the verses to this beautiful tune. The lyrics I learned warned not to trust a blue-eyed girl from Albany, but otherwise were very similar. Thanks for making this available and thanks to the person who made the first two verses available. It seems that this song is only remembered by former campers of Camp Judy Layne. Like the sailor for whom it speaks, it will soon look away- hey away- sail away... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: the girl scout song Sailin' Away From: Mo the caller Date: 11 Apr 15 - 02:47 AM I'm disappointed. I thought this thread was going to be about the tune the BBC plays before the Shipping forecast on radio. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: the girl scout song Sailin' Away From: GUEST,Susani Date: 23 Jun 17 - 07:28 PM I learned "Sailin' Away from Boston Town" at camp Judy Layne in the summer of '72 from Mary Sue Webb. Glad to have all the lyrics -- I only remembered the 1st and last verse. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: the girl scout song Sailin' Away From: GUEST Date: 01 Mar 18 - 12:20 AM I was looking this up to see if there were more verses I didn't know and I find it fascinating that Campy Judy Layne seems to be the only source for this. Wonder who wrote it. This is my favorite and my sister and I still sing it together <3 |
