Subject: Origins: Walk With Me (Kanga's Song) From: GUEST,cosmos42 Date: 24 Aug 15 - 04:40 PM Another song origins question, for another Girl Scout Camp Song. The lyrics I learned are below. The people I learned from called it "Walk with Me", but as I've been looking around for its sources, many songbooks call it "Kanga's Song" (I couldn't find any videos of it being sung, nor could I find the chords, so maybe I'll get over my dislike of my own voice and toss a version up on YouTube soon) Thanks! Chorus: Walk with me and talk with me And say you'll be my friend And together we'll have harmony On a road that will never end. Although our roads are different Just watch as they converge We've got a job to do together Our song, it must be heard. (Chorus) Sisters for the summer That's what the children say Little do they know when they go away That our friendship will never fade. (Chorus) And when you're down I'll build you up And when you're up I'll laugh with you And together we'll find the peace of mind That only two friends can find. (Chorus) |
Subject: ADD Version: Walk With Me (Kanga's Song) From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Aug 15 - 05:25 PM I did not find "Walk with Me" or "Kanga's Song" in our Scout Songbook Indexing thread, which indexes lots and lots of scout songbooks. I did find a version of the song that's almost the same as yours in the Girl Scout Camp Grove Point Songbbok, http://www.cbgsc.org/04_for_volunteers/resources/program_ideas/docs/Camp%20Songs.pdf KANGA'S SONG CHORUS Walk with me and talk with me And say you'll be my friend And together we'll work out a harmony On a road that will never end Although our roads are different Just watch as they converge We've got a job to do together Our song, it must be heard CHORUS Sisters for the summer That's what the children say But little do they know when we go away Our friendships will never fade CHORUS So when you're down I'll build you up And when you're up I'll laugh with you And together we'll find our peace of mind That only true friends can find So walk with me and talk with me And say you'll be my friend And together we'll work out a harmony On a road that will never end On a road that will never end ...and I found a version exactly the same as yours here:

Subject: RE: Origins: Walk With Me (Kanga's Song) From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Aug 15 - 05:40 PM Maybe that's why that song never made it into the official Girl Scout songbooks, #. Oh, and after that, YouTube played this for me: |
Subject: RE: Origins: Walk With Me (Kanga's Song) From: GUEST,# Date: 24 Aug 15 - 05:44 PM Joe, you got the short end of the stick on that one :-) But it leads to a neat notion for cosmos: maybe his book could list aka's. That might prevent some confusions down the road. |
Subject: RE: Origins: Walk With Me (Kanga's Song) From: GUEST,cosmos42 Date: 24 Aug 15 - 06:56 PM Thanks, all. I definitely scoured Mudcat before posting, and will be making good use of the Scout Songbook thread. Eek, that is a painful version of the song. Then again, had I recorded one, I couldn't guarantee that it'd be much better... I'm definitely going to include AKAs - and alternate versions, and so on. Some of these songs are known by so many names... Also, it's not really relevant, but I'm female. |
