I picked that thing up at some kind of flea market, just thinking it could look mellow in some photos. I can't for the life of me remember for sure what I payed for it, except I'm sure it was two bucks absolute tops; I keep thinking I may have got it for a quarter. Now I have to buy a watch chain, to at least wear it on one for occasions once in a while.

My Watchmaker did a pretty good job I think and all original. I have to find a better crown and sometime I will get a better dial

I pulled out a tiny little bottle, Mahlon said you see all these tiny balance stems, well they are for a bunn special and each one is 55 dollars a piece if you can even find them ... My Mrs isn't mad at me anymore for spending 500 bucks on parts LOL

I have a Canadian Hamilton 992B in the original Sturdy Case 1951. Just replaced the melamine 24 hr Canadian dial with a porcelain 24 hr Canadian dial. Beautiful watch, original and dead nuts accurate. serviced and ready to carry ... I have 250 USD in the watch and will sell it for that price .. You won't find one in this condition under 400 - 500 bucks

Why, well I want a Ball Hamilton since I have the parts to restore one and they are expensive and I have 3 other 992B's. Anyone interested PM me

so I bought 16 cases of watch parts for 500 dollars .. a big expense for me but I buy and trade and sell and usually make out in the deal. so I go over to visit my Amish watchmaker friend who just restored my rare Hamilton 930 ... jaw dropping beautiful restoration. And yea I get you money is no good you owe me nothing. So I figured he would do that so I go get a case of hamilton parts to give him. He looks at them, refused to accept .. I said Mahlon I bought 16 cases of parts the hamilton parts were for you .. He said you have some very rare Ball Hamilton parts here, this case alone is work more than 1000 dollars maybe two ... so he made me take them home

On macrophotography. I have several ways of getting a detail picture. All three of the following feed easily into my computer. Depends on the degree of quality I want.
1. Full size image. Use an Epsom 4180 photo scanner. Not the best but quick.

2. My Canon with a Canon macro lens. Lighting with a diffusing filter over the halogen lights.

3 The Optex USB Digital magnifier. This handy dandy gadget connects to the computer with a USB port for stills and video clips (haven't used the latter). Magnification up to 200x. Has a built in light, but ambient light sufficient if 1::1 or low plus magnification satisfactory. Good for stamps and coins, etc. as well as watches.
This little gadget with stand fits into a jacket pocket.
Compatable with Windows and Mac OS 10.6.
Found it on sale in the camera department of London Drugs supermart for $89.
Worth a look if you are unfamiliar with it.

Interesting article, Dan. And now for something completely different...

This is a Russian Molnija pocket watch from the 1970s - made in the Chelyabinsk factory with a SU3602 movement. Gunmetal case with a ship on the back. Basic stuff - but very sturdy and solidly made - and keeping excellent time at the moment.

if you find a great size 18 RR movement, hamilton or Waltham, nail it. I have a couple of mint size 18 RR cases and I will have it cased for you ... sometime you can nail the movements at a fraction of the cost and I have original cases for ya

Just came back from my Amish watchmaker friend. I bought him a stack of jewels he is happier than a horse in a hay field.   Froggie you wait till he finishes your Waltham, then you can say it was junk ... now you are going to join us going broke on old watches club yup .. he will finish next week.

Ah - that explains it. I usually make a reduced image copy of photos I post on the next - forgot to do it this time and each of those suckers is 2Mb in size. Sorry for that!

I use the macro setting on my camera to get the fine detail. The movement shots are OK but the lighting of case detail is always a problem - usually too much reflection from the gold-filled/silver plates.

I've been using AT&T Yahoo for home page and browsing, if only 'cause that's where I get my email, other than generally using Google when going for images.
What actually happened, your watches took a long time to come through, popped up momentarily in the huge scale, then dropped to a very sharp full monitor screen size.

The little silver Victorian ladies' watch should be with you in a day or two. The movement ain't too good but you might find a jewel or two in there...

I just found a broken Hamilton 930, I mean I have only seen one of these in my life, I think they made them from 1896 - 1896 total of 3 or 4k of them. Mine is a very early edition ... very rare 16 Jewel.. Now I have to get it restored from my Amish friend

My little Lady Elgin grade 354 hunter arrived today - all the way across the water from Michigan. It's a 0s size 15 jewel watch dated 1915. Very sweet - and keeps perfect time so far.

Mrs. F's away at the moment, so I'm taking it into town tomorrow to get her name engraved on the cartouche - just a little present for when she gets back...
