Subject: Pete Seeger to play at Common Ground
From: Allan C.
Date: 11 Jun 01 - 01:19 PM

I won't be there but I know folks who attend every year and thought you might want to know about it. Rather than try to make up some sort of blurb about it all, I will just quote from the website, the address of which is listed below.

Saturday, July 7th, the American Music and Arts Festival features over 100 musicians, dancers and artists. Featured will be Pete Seeger & Tao Rodriguez Seeger (workshops throughout the day...main concert set at 6 PM) and Tom Chapin (children's concert 3 PM, family concert 8 PM). Walt Michael & Company will perform at 7 PM. Other Saturday performers include Dr. Loco, Joyce Scott, Robin Bullock, the Sankofa Dance Theater, the Eric Byrd Trio and many more.

Common Ground on the Hill invites you to join us in searching for common ground. In this our seventh year, wonderful musicians, artists, writers, lecturers, actors and dancers assemble around the belief that we can improve ourselves and this world by searching for the common ground in one another through our traditions. In a world filled with negative news, we seek to create and celebrate good news.

Unfortunately, the full fee was supposed to be in YESTERDAY, June 10, 2001.

Grump, Grump, Grump, Grump!

Generalized rant ON!

Why the hell don't these web sites include their physical locations on the first page. I had to dig down through three or four pages before I found out where they were.

Rant off!

I emailed about ticket availability and just now received the following response from Walt Michael, the director.

HI allan,

We are still accepting payments online. Please go ahead and make any payments you wish.

The Saturday ticket gets you the Pete Seeger concert and everything else that goes on that day....it is merely part of the entire day's oferings.

Sorry I didn't mention the location at the outset. Common Ground on the Hill is in Maryland, USA

Maryland is still a pretty big place. Where exactly?

The Common Ground Festival is actually held elsewhere in the city Westminster, Maryland: the grounds of the Carroll County Farm Museum. (A mile or so southeast of Western Maryland College). Westminster is about 25 or 30 miles Northwest of Baltimore.

It's a wonderful small festival with lots of very good traditional music,as well as other music and art. It's not very crowded. And since it comes at the end of week-long series of classes, many of the performers start accompanying each other (and some of the students, too), You'll hear combinations of performers you've never dreamed of before. One of the people who teaches a class in massage during the week-long session sets up a massage table near the main stage at the festival, and you can have body work done while you listen to great live music.

While the week-long classes may fill up, one can purchase tickets to the weekend festival at anytime--or at the gate!
