Subject: Lyr Req: Seeking a spanish song for a friend From: GUEST,hobbles2002@hotmail.com Date: 29 Jun 04 - 10:25 AM I am looking for a spanish song that includes spanish lyrics that go something like "he is the sky and she is the sea." It goes on to talk about no matter how much they want to love each other and be together, it can never be. Because he is the sky and she is the sea and something about they could never meet. I apologize for not knowing more. A dying friend told me about this song that she wants to find. It was sung for her by a spanish acquaintance who has since moved. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Time is of the essence so if you know what I am talking about please email me right away. She only has 3-6 months left. Please put "song requested" in the subject line because otherwise it might not get opened. Thank you for your time. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: spanish song: he is the sky &she is sea From: Celtaddict Date: 30 Jun 04 - 08:00 PM Guest Hobbles, might you be looking for this: a song that has a very simple melody line (the sort that makes a good round) and the words are (I do not speak Spanish) --mos el barco, -- -- -- -- four short lines, each rising up a four note bit of scale,The melody has the short four lines above, then switches to the higher key related tune (rather the way reels do) for another four, each going down in pitch. and translates (the chorus anyway) "You are the boat, I am the sea, I live in you, you live in me" I do not know the song myself (obviously) but know someone who sings it and could give him a call. (He is not a regular here.) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: spanish song: he is the sky &she is sea From: Celtaddict Date: 30 Jun 04 - 08:04 PM "Somos el barco" is not in the DT but is mentioned in several threads, including the full Spanish words. Try a forum search for "somos el barco" in the box high in the left on the forum page; it came up immediately several times, though I regret to say I cannot do a blicky from the work computer. If you need music, I will ask him for a tape. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: spanish song: he is the sky &she is sea From: Celtaddict Date: 30 Jun 04 - 08:40 PM Apparently Peter, Paul and Mary have it on their website too according to an earlier 2001 thread. Have not found music yet, if this is in fact the one, but it is evidently fairly widely known and recorded. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: spanish song: he is the sky &she is sea From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 30 Jun 04 - 09:49 PM Pete Seegar also sang this. Can't find any trad. Spanish song with this name. It was put together as a song of unity; there are words in other languages. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: spanish song: he is the sky &she is sea From: Mark Cohen Date: 30 Jun 04 - 11:37 PM But "Somos el barco" is pretty clearly not the song that is being sought. I have a very vague memory of that song, so vague that there's not enough to trace, sorry. If anything pops into my head I'll follow it up. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: spanish song: he is the sky &she is sea From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 Jul 04 - 11:08 PM Babel Fish tells me that "he is the sky and she is the sea" translates to "él es el cielo y ella es el mar." However, searching for these words with Google didn't find any lyrics. Maybe somebody who really knows Spanish could do better. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: spanish song: he is the sky &she is sea From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 01 Jul 04 - 11:28 PM This site has almost too many songs to search. I got tired looking and it's my bedtime. Here is the link to Spanish songs: Index Spanish Suggestion: Also look for Ya (I), etc. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: spanish song: he is the sky &she is sea From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Jul 04 - 02:51 AM I sent "Somos El Barco" to the requester by e-mail - but I'm not convinced that's the song he/she's seeking. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: spanish song: he is the sky &she is sea From: Escamillo Date: 02 Jul 04 - 03:26 AM I'm a native Spanish speaker, but I don't remember any song like that. Perhaps if someone can tell me some verses of the original Spanish lyrics, some bell could ring in my RAM. Usually translations are not literal, so that "he is the sky .." tells me nothing. Un abrazo, Andrés |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: spanish song: he is the sky &she is From: Mark Cohen Date: 02 Jul 04 - 04:05 AM Maybe Andres could translate this song, Magica La Notte, and tell us if it might be the right one. I did a Google search on "soy el cielo, tu eres el mar", which I think means "I am the sky, you are the sea." Aloha, Mark |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: spanish song: he is the sky &she is sea From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Jul 04 - 01:52 PM That sure sounds like a likely possibility, Mark. I'll paste the lyrics here. The chorus starts, "You are the sea, and I am the moon, and I live up here in the sky...." -Joe Offer- Magica la notte performed by Francesca St. Martin EL SUEÑO....LA NOCHE....LA MUSICA...LA MUSICA LA MUSICA...EL SUEÑO...LA LUNA...EL MAR. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: spanish song: he is the sky &she is sea From: Escamillo Date: 02 Jul 04 - 03:31 PM It looks a little incoherent, as if it was a bad translation to Spanish from something else. And "la notte" is Italian, not Spanish. EL SUEÑO....LA NOCHE....LA MUSICA...LA MUSICA The dream.. the night..the music..the music LA MUSICA...EL SUEÑO...LA LUNA...EL MAR. The music.. the dream.. the Moon.. the Sea MI ALMA SIENTE EL RITMO SUBIR My soul feels the rythm raising ES MAGIA Y ESTA SERA It's magic and this will be UNA NOCHE DE MUSICA Y FIESTA A night of music and feast Y NADA MAS and nothing else TODA LA GENTE QUE BAILA Y QUE SE LIBRA EL CORAZON All the people who dance and frees their hearts YA VA A SALIR.. PARA VIVIR... NUEVA PASION. is going out ..to live.. new passion TU ERES EL MAR... PERO YO SOY LA LUNA... You are the Sea.. but I am the Moon Y VIVO AQUI EN EL CIELO and I live here in the sky ESPERO POR TU TERNURA I wait for your tenderness TU... ERES EL MAR... PERO YO SOY LA LUNA... You are the Sea.. but I am the Moon Y VIVO AQUI EN EL CIELO and I live here in the sky Y ESPERO... PUES QUIERO and wait.. because I want.. I don't see much resemblance to the song requested, but if you want the full translation please tell me. Please Hobbles2002, could you tell us whether the song comes from Mexico, or Spain, or Central or South America? This could help. Un abrazo, Andrés |
Subject: Lyr Add: MAGICA LA NOTTE (Francesca St. Martin) From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 02 Jul 04 - 05:10 PM "Magica la Notte" by Francesca St. Martin in Italian is different from the song in Spanish posted by Joe. Possibly a different set of lyrics was set in Spanish because of the impossibility of literal translations that rhyme and fit the music. Magica La Notte Line settings probably wrong. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: spanish song: he is the sky &she is sea From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 02 Jul 04 - 05:26 PM Magica La Notte may not be traditional. I mis-translated tradotto, which seems to mean translated. The website has songs translated from several languages, but this one is in the original language. The alphabetic index is based on the first name of the artist. I noted that they have, under Led Zeppelin, Stairway to Heaven, which translates to "Scala Per Il Paradiso" for the Italian lyrics given. Quite a variety here. |
