Thanks so much, Jim and Guest for that help with the two songs. Carina (with tilde) sounds perfect. That's great.

okay I think the word u r looking for is carino (tilde over the "n") so it's pronounced car*een*yo (and with the emphasis on the second syllable) ... and carino means "love" or "affection" so whe inserted into your phase "Cuando no hay carino" ... it means "When there is no love (or affection)" ...

Not being familiar with the tune I can only guess ...fire is "fuego" in Spanish - perhaps that is one of the missing words?

Ron: I repeated your request for Spanish lyrics to THE WILD SIDE OF LIFE in this thread: Lyr Req: Wild Side of Life (Carter, Warren) because I think it's usually better for each song to have its own thread. (That thread already contains the English lyrics and chords.) Anyone who wants to discuss THE WILD SIDE OF LIFE, please do so in that thread. Let's reserve this thread for AFTER THE FIRE IS GONE, since there is no other thread about it that I could find.

Jim--

Thanks so much for your help. These are both great songs which I sing, but I'd like to put in the Spanish verses which Freddy sings on the album (He sings both Spanish and English verses)--and I already have most of the words--just a few I can't pick out. I really love Freddy's "Before the Last Teardrop Falls", with the Spanish verse in the middle--and I already do that one. The album where Freddy sings the songs with the Spanish verses is just a collection of greatest hits, plus others to round out the album. I suspect he did the translations himself--no info on the CD.   The CD is called "Before the Last Teardrop Falls".

I like the way Spanish sounds when sung---after all, as you know, "Spanish is the Loving Tongue".

Ron

Subject: Lyr Add: AFTER THE FIRE IS GONE (L. E. White)

I'm not finding any Spanish lyrics, but then I'm not very skilled with Spanish. I'm hoping you can give some more information, like: What album(s) are you listening to? On the album cover, are the song titles given in English, or Spanish, or both? Do you happen to know whether Freddy wrote his own translation into Spanish, or someone else did?

Please look for the songwriters' names on the album cover, or on the record label if this is a vinyl record. If anyone other than L. E. White is mentioned for AFTER THE FIRE IS GONE, or anyone other than Arlie Carter and William Warren for WILD SIDE OF LIFE, it's probably the translator, and that would give me something more to search for.

In the meantime, here is the English version of one of the songs

AFTER THE FIRE IS GONE
(L. E. White)
« © '69 Tree Publishing, BMI »

CHORUS: Love is where you find it when you find no love at home,
And there's nothing cold as ashes after the fire is gone.

The bottle is almost empty. The clock just now struck ten.
Darling, I had to call you to our favorite place again.
We know it's wrong for us to meet, but the fire's gone out at home,
And there's nothing cold as ashes after the fire is gone. CHORUS

Your lips are warm and tender. Your arms hold me just right.
Sweet words of love you remember that the one at home forgot.
Each time we say it's the last time, but we keep hanging on,
And there's nothing cold as ashes after the fire is gone. CHORUS

[Recorded as a duet by Charlie Louvin & Melba Montgomery, Loretta Lynn & Conway Twitty, Mel Tillis & Sherry Bryce, Tracy Nelson & Willie Nelson, George Jones & Tammy Wynette, Robin & Linda Williams. Also recorded as a solo by Faron Young and by Freddy Fender.]

Listening to Freddy Fender--2 songs with some Spanish translations of well-known country songs. I've got part of each but can't figure out the missing words. The translations are not necessarily exact--just Spanish approximations of the general meaning

After the Fire Is Gone

Original

Love is where you find it
When you find no love at home
And there's nothing cold as ashes
After the fire is gone

Spanish

Cuando no hay ---   --- -- (3 words?)
Y no se puede encontrar (I think)
Cuando no hay amor en casa
Lo buscamos donde esta.

Wild Side of Life

Spanish is not a direct translation of any part of the song

Tu sabes que te quiero y    ----- ----- (2 words?)
Tu sabes que yo sufro por tu amor
Pero tu ---- ----- (2 words?) en las cantinas
Y yo me estoy muriendo de dolor

Basically I'm looking for a good Spanish expression of these verses and I'm pretty sure I have a good number of the words already--just need Spanish to finish.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
