By the time you guys got here, we could switch to my station wagon. BTW, maybe you could swing through Raleigh and pick up my good friend and newbie on the Mudcat, BarbaraLynn. Wait, let me rethink this...me and a carload of women...Yeah! Great plan!! |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2000: October 20-22, 2000 From: Barry Finn Date: 14 Dec 99 - 10:19 PM Mick, just a wee bit more singing will do, not that you didn't do your share last time, matter of fact for such a big guy you carried more than your share but I aim to squeeze a few more gems out of you, provided Dani, that I can last long enough to enjoy them & I was just resting my eyes. Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2000: October 20-22, 2000 From: Charlie Baum Date: 15 Dec 99 - 10:34 AM Alison--it was a few years ago that Gordon Bok (of Maine) sailed into the Getaway in his boat. Of course, back then, we were at Camp Letts, which had its own docking facilities (on a river off Chesapeake Bay). And I suspect it would be easier if you could sail from Syndey, NS instead of Syndey, NSW. --yr travel agent |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2000: October 20-22, 2000 From: Fortunato Date: 02 Mar 00 - 09:10 AM Charlie. I like the sound of this place: "Ramblewood has been catering to the needs of "alternative" groups for over a decade, and is experienced in and capable of providing an environment for unencumbered self-expression." Sounds like we can shed our inhibitions (and possibly our clothing) and drink wild potions and cavort hedonistically. I'm in. How much does it cost? Fortunato |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2000: October 20-22, 2000 From: Charlie Baum Date: 02 Mar 00 - 10:09 AM The committee that plans the Getaway has just been reconstituted and reauthorized for 2000, so we're about to plan for cost and food. Decisions should be ready and ratified by early May. (Ratification is what takes time in any organization.) In the meantime, note my guesstimate last December (above) of between $110 and $150 per person for the whole weekend. Subject to revision. Less for children. Discounts for FSGW members. Your mileage may vary. --Charlie Baum p.s. While Ramblewood Camp might not require clothing, October weather in Maryland usually recommends it. |
Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2000: October 20-22, 2000 From: Fortunato Date: 02 Mar 00 - 10:16 AM Thanks, Charlie. I'll start going nekked here in Silver Spring to aclimatize. I may have to sell some children(I have three so one or two less won't matter much)to pay our fare. Anyone out there interested in buying a teenage boy, healthy and with excellent teeth? I'll pay shipping. Fortunato |

Duane D. & I certainly plan to attend, barring national/personal disaster. davidmc24 will be a college man by then, so I can't speak for him. Last year's event left quite an afterglow for all of us! best from bbc, who gets up at 4:50 am, leaves for work at 6 am, & frequently checks Mudcat first (Hugs to the 2 "Big's"!

Barring some disaster, I intend to be at this gathering. This damn election cycle may throw a bug in the works, but I am still figuring on it. YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS ONE FOLKS!!!! Amazing gathering of talent and goodwill. I sang and played and chawed the fat with a bunch of damned fine musicians and people. Even old Barry Finn was extraordinary. Life goes on on this end, but I still poke my nose in as time permits. Mostly reading without posting just now, but this will change after March 11 (caucus day) and I should be able to get back to normal. All the best, Big Mick |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2000: October 20-22, 2000 From: KathWestra Date: 19 Jun 00 - 12:02 PM I saw Charlie last night, and the cost of the weekend is still being calculated. Once that's done, a registration form will be generated and registration will open up. My guess is that the form will come to FSGW members in their August newsletter. It will probably be posted on the Folklore Society website at the same time. (www.fsgw.org).
As most of you remember, we'll be at a new camp about 1-1/2 hours north of D.C. this year. Charlie and his committee are figuring out a pricing structure that will 1) assure that the Folklore Society meets its direct costs for the camp; AND 2) encourage people with families to bring their kids so that we can assure that the music is passed along to the young 'uns. His guess last night was that the FSGW member rate will be something between $125-$150 for an adult for the three-day weekend. Nonmember cost will be higher, but we don't know by how much. Kids will be less.
I'm sure Charlie will post details as soon as they're available. |

Subject: RE: FSGW Getaway 2000: October 20-22, 2000 From: Charlie Baum Date: 25 Jul 00 - 10:54 AM The good news is that everything has been figured out, and the details are about to be published in the FSGW monthly bulletin. The bad news is that the webmaster of the FSGW website is off at Folk Music camp this week, and won't be back until next weekend. Hence, we're going to have to wait until next week to mount the information. If you go to the FSGW Gewtaway Webpage, you'll find what's available, but the prices and some details won't be put on line until the first days of August. The same link will then give you all youi need to know. This page will give you details on joining the FSGW, and a membership application may be downloaded by clicking here. --Charlie Baum |
