    He's a bit thin, but generally holding up. Halfway through the chemotherapy now. And singing yesterday in Cardiff, not loudly but well considering.
   Thanks for the concern. Naturally the family is a bit freaked out but everyone has been lovely.

Sorry to hear Mike's not been well and best wishes for a speedy recovery. I still fondly remember those early days in East Yorkshire folk clubs and Sunday nights at the Blue Bell.

All the best, Mike - I knew the Waterson Family were singing at St David's Hall, but decided not to go after warnings of chaos at the hall, where apparently they're digging up the streets. Your illness is something I did not know about - and I wish I had gone.
You're a hell of a singer and songwriter, too!

And yes I agree he's such a fine songwriter too - so let's hope he can be persuaded (are you listening, NoMasters?) to get around to actually recording some of his songs for posterity when he's recovered?

Oh blimey!

I didn't know Mike was ill. Was sitting with him at the Dolphin in RHB late last year - he was in fine voice then. My own father who is of a similar age has just had chemo and radio therapy and seems to be doing well, lets hope its the same for Mike.

Sincere thanks Eliza for keeping us posted on this, initially disquieting, news. Like the thousands of others of Mike's fans I send best wishes for his continued good progress medically and warmest thoughts to all the Family during this stressful time.

I'll second MoorleyMan's request for solo Mike to be 'captured' musically. Tis like you Eliza & your darling Ma finally together on disc, something we, who've been listening to and seeing the Family since the '60's have much wanted.

For me the amazing celebration that was the mighty River of Song in the Royal Albert Hall continues, and I look forward to all the Family music that will flow our way.

Mike's friends and followers in the folk world need to be kept informed.We don't know what's wrong with him, although the word 'chemotherapy' gives us a dreadful clue. sharing an anecdote, a group of us were relating our most enbarrasing moments and one, i can't remember who, said he had sung Three Day Millionaire at Robin Hoods Bay, on returning to his seat asked the gent next to him what he thought of the song, I can't exactly remember what the reply was, something like "I thought it was ok when i wrote it"!

I passed on Catters' combined good wishes to Mike tonight. He's looking very thin but was singing well with the family - though complaining about the keys being too low with Martin not there! He tells me he has "the right attitude, which is what's important" and is looking forward to being out on his boat at the weekend - "Fish for tea!"

Fomd memories of playing with Mike for the No Masters Demo CD in 1993. And of the evening that we came back early from the pub to record 4 or 5 solo songs that he'd written and wanted to put into the can. That's where I learned "Working Chap".

He was in excellent form, as were all the other eight family members, at Hull Truck on August 15th.

Mike and his wife and two daughters, Norma and Martin and Liza, Lal's son and daughter. Not a spare seat in the house and a standing ovation at the end.
