Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Jeri Date: 03 Oct 05 - 11:37 AM Janie, look up at the top for "2005 Getaway Program Information" - I just added it. I think the program is probably a big enough topic to deserve it's own thread and provide a place for discussion. This thread's more of a notice board, an edited one at that. |
Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Janie Date: 03 Oct 05 - 11:25 AM I can't find the thread or post that recently had a tentative workshop list--I think Nancy King posted it. If it wasn't to this thread, it probably should be moved to here. Janie |
Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Jeri Date: 03 Oct 05 - 11:16 AM I was waiting for some money to squeak in. New old car, new computer, and a check that got re-routed to the Post Office in the Twilight Zone. Now, to figure out how I can afford heat this winter. Burning dollar bills in the fireplace might be cheaper than heating oil or electricity. If anyone had wondered about me, my reg is away. (How much you wanna bet stamps go up to $1.00 soon?) I need to plan how to avoid NYC. |

Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Amos Date: 26 Sep 05 - 11:06 PM Celtaddict: The gibberish was PostScript code which was visible because you were viewing the file with a text reader of some sort. If you save the file to your hard drive as "Reg.pdf" and then open it using Adobe Acrobat, it will look normal. You need to print it and fill it in and mail it physically. (If you have Acrobat Pro you CAN force it to be filled in electronically, but it is a pain in the zorch to do it.) A |
Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Bill D Date: 26 Sep 05 - 07:11 PM 'cybergibberish' is not a very technical term...*grin*...it is just a .pdf file, which you would read and print with Adobe Acrobat....no one else has mentioned a problem. What actually DID happen when you tried? (And sure...you have some time yet) |
Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Celtaddict Date: 26 Sep 05 - 06:47 PM I tried to download the registration and got only cybergibberish. Anyone else with trouble? And can I still register? |

Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Tannywheeler Date: 17 Sep 05 - 06:42 PM It's me again, Margaret. (Prize if you know where that comes from.) I'm (at least) one of the folks who's been looking for a ride from D.C. to Getaway on Fri. I'll be at the Motel 6 at 6711 Georgia Ave. NW. I'd like to avoid renting a car, if I can. I could contribute to gas fund for the ride. I'M GETTING TO TAKE A TRIP!!!!!!! AWAY FROM HOME, BY MYSELF, ON THE TRAIN, TO SEE A BUNCH OF FOLKS WHO ARE ALMOST (it seems) AS CRAZY AS I AM!!!!! (and people say there is no GOD) Tw |

Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Barry Finn Date: 17 Sep 05 - 12:56 AM Charlie, not to worry. I only get lost (every time) on the way back. The good thing is that Justine can't read a map, so we may just make it after all. I'll bring a compass & a roulett wheel just to be on the safe. Barry |
Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Gorgeous Gary Date: 16 Sep 05 - 09:20 PM Sheryl and I could possibly take someone, although we're not going to be departing the Rockville area until after 5pm. Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Charley Noble Date: 16 Sep 05 - 01:09 PM BillD- Thanks for the clarification! Actually I could do a workshop on Gurage work songs, for transplanting false banana trees. I recorded some of them when I was in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia, back in the Pleistocene, but when I asked my students what they were actually singing they replied, "Sir, they're not singing the right words. They're being very rude!" Maybe I better stick with traditional sea shanties such as "Wake Up, Susianna," ones that everyone knows Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Ebbie Date: 16 Sep 05 - 12:39 PM Last year some kind soul set a heater to running in our bathroom. It helped, even though with two un-doored entrances it didn't help all that much. Heaters in other rooms, unless they were right at one's feet, would help hardly at all. There ain't no glass in them there winder holes. I just had a bright idea- today I'm taking the bus to our Outdoor Outfitters and I'm getting a couple of heat seats, and maybe some hand warmers. Ooooo weeee, bring it on! |
Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Bill D Date: 16 Sep 05 - 11:03 AM there will be something posted soon, Charley....Carly, Nancy King, and Ferrara are working on it right now. You know how it is...planners want to get it mostly 'right' before saying a lot.... (I KNOW stuff is happening, 'cause I hear one side of a lot of phone calls..*grin*) You, for instance, are slated to give a 3 hour workshop on Bulgarian noodle-heaving songs in 9/8 time...hope you're up on 'em... |
Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: MMario Date: 16 Sep 05 - 10:56 AM a list of 2004 workshops |
Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Charley Noble Date: 16 Sep 05 - 10:34 AM Is there a draft description of the various workshops and who if anyone is coordinating them? Or is this something that we pick up as we parachute in? I believe there was a link somewhere to one from 2004 but there are an awful lot of posts to wade through. Last year's might provide some idea of the range of activities. Looks like Barry and Justine will be van-pooling with me. We should have a great time navigating to Maryland: "Hard starboard", "Oh, shit, we're all aback!", "Scandalize the skiff!" Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Charley Noble Date: 02 Sep 05 - 08:33 AM I think I've got it right. It happens October 14-17 and I need to mail a hard copy of the registration form along with a check in by October 1st. I'm seriously thinking about coming. Is it true that there will be hundreds of folks there all singing different songs at the same time? Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: GUEST,Dani Date: 31 Aug 05 - 08:01 AM Feel free to move this if you think it's too far off-topic, but I wonder: Those of you who've brought kids, can you tell me a little about how sleeping options have worked? My girls are 11 and almost-15. They are coming along for the adventure, but not sure what they are in for ; ) I've always stayed with the Mudchicks in a late-night situation. Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: MMario Date: 26 Aug 05 - 08:38 AM I hope the FSGW folks who DON'T come on the 'cat are aware of how much we appreciate their sharing their Getaway with us. While I certainly enjoy the meeting and sharing with other mudcatters I find myself looking forward to meeting and sharing with the FSGW folks as much - or even more - since I don't get to talk with them through the year. The occasional puzzled look from people - and I heard last year "Oh - don't worry about that - it's a mudcat thing..." being said to one mystified person. |
Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: George Papavgeris Date: 26 Aug 05 - 06:06 AM La Inglesa and myself are coming. Flights booked, I just have to send the registration form - and arrange non-dollar payment through Dick Greenhaus. We'll be there for a few days before and after the Getaway, so we will be keen participants in any Pre-/Post-Getaway arrangements. |
Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: KT Date: 26 Aug 05 - 01:15 AM Alaska chicks made the party jump????!! LOL!! GUFFAAW, even!! It sure was FUN, though!! I remember saying, "Well, if this is all there is to the GETAWAY, that'd be okay. I'd go home happy." And everyone assured me that that was only the beginning! How right they were. For those who've never been to a GETAWAY, you're in for a treat! Can't wait to see y'all!! KT |

Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Charlie Baum Date: 25 Aug 05 - 06:45 PM WYSIWYG adds: Happily, it also looks like several folks plan on stopping with us on the way TO the Getaway. I'll post a "Pre/Post-Getaway" thread with more info and a place to register to participate, when we get back into town post-vacay (mid-September). In the meantime, Mmario knows our setup; I'd suggest people can PM him with any questions if you PM me and get no reply. |
Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Tinker Date: 16 Aug 05 - 07:31 PM If you are coming in and out of New York like Colin you could always borrow sleeping bags from us and return them at the end of your trip. With six of us in the house there is a variety of options available.... Or drive down with Colin and I and have a shopping guide. After 17 years in New Jersey I've almost adopted the shop til you drop motto... BG tinker |

Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Charlie Baum Date: 16 Aug 05 - 05:27 PM Mrs. Duck--some would say that the entire state of New Jersey is one huge shopping mall (Not entirely true.) After that, you will pass through Delaware, which bills itself as "home of tax-free shopping" because the state levies no sales tax (which is between 4 and 6 percent in most other states). There are Wal-Marts in New Castle, DE, Elkton, Md and NorthEast, MD. (You can get specific addresses and diving directions from www.walmart.com). Theere's also a Dick's Sporting Goods next to the Christiana (Delaware) Mall, just off (Delaware)exit 4 of I-95, about 25 miles before the exit for the Getaway. |

Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Mrs.Duck Date: 16 Aug 05 - 04:57 PM Is there anywhere en route from New York to Getaway where we can buy sleeping bags cheaply? Taking our own from here would take up too much room. Walmart or similar would probably do it. |
Subject: RE: 2005 FSGW Getaway--Information (edited) From: Bill D Date: 15 Aug 05 - 07:41 PM ok...there's several Motel 6s about...one is in Laurel, on the way back from Getaway to DC..(maybe halfway or more back) and sure...I'd hope you stay at Getaway during the festivities...*grin*....who has time to drive somewhere to go to bed for that 3 hours? |
