Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: SINSULL Date: 24 Aug 04 - 11:55 AM I stand corrected, Peter. I am trying to figure out how to get three ten pound jugs past airport security. How does your wife put up with you??????? |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Dani Date: 24 Aug 04 - 04:39 PM My kazoo is ready when needed. Any word on workshops, real or imagined? Dani |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: ConcertinaChap Date: 24 Aug 04 - 04:59 PM Anne and I were booked as guests a few years back, and had the most fun we've ever had on a weekend in folk music (Sidmouth notwithstanding). We can't make it this year, but we've just made a decision that, hell or high water, we'll make it across the Pond for next year's do, and increase the number of English accents even more. Have fun, Chris |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: GUEST,Bigchuck at work Date: 24 Aug 04 - 05:21 PM Sins, Kris is either a saint or worse than Peter. Take your pick. I suspect a bit of both. Sandy |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: kendall Date: 24 Aug 04 - 07:24 PM Peter, I had the same thought, but I had too much class to post it. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: SINSULL Date: 24 Aug 04 - 07:24 PM Sandy - will you be at the Getaway too? SINS |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Ferrara Date: 24 Aug 04 - 07:48 PM Have just started a Getaway Program Thread. Please check in over there if you're really & truly coming: since we are the folks who put on the program for ourselves, I have to know who "we" are. I'll try to put together a preliminary list, but some of it will be guesswork. I've had a lot of good suggestions for workshops so far, will keep you up to date on the other thread as best I can as the program starts to take shape. (This is a wee bit later than I usually start the program but that's not going to be a problem.) Rita |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: GUEST,MMario Date: 07 Sep 04 - 03:13 PM be fresh! If everything goes right I may have a second CD out by Getaway time! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 07 Sep 04 - 03:52 PM I'm sorry to report that I won't get there, despite my earlier intention. My wife is having breast cancer surgery right about that time, and I'm pretty sure the timing will make it impossible for me to be away from Indianapolis that weekend. With that uncertainty, I won't spend the money registering, so even if I'm free to travel then it will be too close to the time. I hope to you y'all next year, though. Dave Oesterreich |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: jacqui.c Date: 07 Sep 04 - 04:57 PM Dave - hope everything goes well for your wife. Jacqui |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: SINSULL Date: 07 Sep 04 - 07:09 PM Dave - take care of her. She may need her legs sanded that weekend and then what? I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. Mary |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: kendall Date: 07 Sep 04 - 07:19 PM Tough break Dave. Best of luck to the Mrs. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Charlie Baum Date: 09 Sep 04 - 12:20 AM Dennis Cook, the Getaway registrar has requested that if anyone (else) wishes to pay in foreign currency, to please contact him first via e-mail (dennis@fsgw.org) and discuss it with him, rather than sending cheques for pounds sterling to the United States. --Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Jeri Date: 09 Sep 04 - 10:41 AM Dave, I'm sorry you won't be able to be there, and sorrier your wife has to go through this. I hope everything goes well for her. I'm out of ink at the moment and I need to print the registration! (Of course, there's the chance that I won't have any money left after buying the ink, but I'll have to risk it.) I could print it in magenta or cyan - I still have some of those colors left, but I think I might get on someone's you-know-what list. SINSULL...THREE jugs!? Must make it a real bitch to buy bras. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: kendall Date: 09 Sep 04 - 12:28 PM Jeri, I do like your sense of humor. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Susan A-R Date: 18 Sep 04 - 04:42 PM I'm looking for a ride to and from the Getaway from DC. I'm visiting my brother in Northwest (Friendship Heights) Is this a possibility for anyone? I can metro to a meeting spot pretty easily. I'll be able to leave early Friday afternoon and don't have to be back in the DC area until Monday afternoon. Glad to help schlep stuff if I can be helpful to organizers (although I and my fiddle and sleeping bag take up some space and may not fit in with all of the organizer stuff.) Susan A-R |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Morticia Date: 18 Sep 04 - 08:25 PM I too have to submit my apologies and I bet you all know what it's costing me not to be there to toast the happy couple and see you all again.......but there's a chance I will be changing jobs ( lessened by my managers way less than enthusiastic reference) and then moving house so it just can't be done.Sing a song for me won't you, and kiss both Kendall and Jacqui with enthusiasm? I know I can rely on you all. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Bill D Date: 18 Sep 04 - 08:48 PM Susan A-R...there's a good chance we (Rita & I) can do it, if you don't get a better offer in the next month. We go Fri afternoon, and leave Monday between 10-12ish....We are in Wheaton, near the Wheaton Metro...keep in contact. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: KT Date: 18 Sep 04 - 10:38 PM Greetings, all! Ebbie and I are in the same boat as Susan A-R. If there are any folks traveling from the DC area who've got space for a couple more, we'd be so grateful. We'd be happy to help with set up, registration, whatever. We arrive on Wednesday before and leave Tuesday after. We are looking forward to seeing DC and the GETAWAY and the fall colors and meeting new Catters, and..... Morticia, so sorry we're going to miss you!!! Are you SURE? KT |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Susan A-R Date: 23 Sep 04 - 10:47 PM Bill, Sounds like a great offer to me. I'm also a good Schlepper of stuff, and as I recall, you folks had a lot of it to Schlep. More later. Susan |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Allan C. Date: 24 Sep 04 - 03:28 PM I'm gettin' excited! I've sent what will have to pass for a registration (the damned printer wouldn't print the form!) and expect to be dragging my trailer into the lot sometime after noon on the Friday. I've been looking forward to seeing you folks all year long. (Fortunately, I have already seen some of you recently already and so it is a double blessing!) Having the trailer there will be a novelty for me. It will be the first time I will be able to sleep at the Getaway in heated comfort (heh heh heh). There is sleeping space available for others, (how many is dependent upon how friendly they are,) if they can put up with my sonorous snoring. PM me if you have any interest. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Col K Date: 24 Sep 04 - 04:26 PM How I wish that I could be with you all again this year.I had hoped to be but things have a habit of changing, but who knows another year and we will see what happens. Have a great time all of you, Love Colin |
Subject: Lift wanted.... From: George Papavgeris Date: 29 Sep 04 - 06:04 PM OK, with just over two weeks to go, it's time to get my act together. And first of all, lift: Is there a kind soul on wheels out there that would provide a weary traveller with a lift from Baltimore BWI airport to the Getaway? I land at 16:15 on Friday 15/Oct; by the time I have been cleared through passports, customs etc, I suspect it will be closer to 17:30. Two pieces of luggage - a smallish case and my sleeping bag; or just one suitcase, if I can fit the sleeping bag in it. So, any takers? Pretty please? With olives on top? |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Bill D Date: 29 Sep 04 - 06:10 PM someone sure will, El Greco...I will already be at the camp by then, but no traveler goes un-lifted..*grin*...we'll see how the offers flow.. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Charlie Baum Date: 29 Sep 04 - 06:30 PM If you're still thinking about coming, it's time to send in your registration. Stop procrastinating. We'll need to let the camp know how many are coming by early next week. Consider this weekend your deadline. --Charlie Baum, who gets to call the camp and tell them how many are coming |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Nancy King Date: 29 Sep 04 - 06:36 PM OK, Charlie, mine will be in the mail tomorrow! I've been waiting to see if I could arrange to stay over Sunday night, but looks like it won't happen this year. Again. Sigh. Working sure takes a big chunk outa the week... Nancy |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Gorgeous Gary Date: 29 Sep 04 - 06:37 PM El Greko: If you don't mind waiting a bit longer, we usually pass through Baltimore around 6pm (18:00). If you don't get a better offer, we could do it. (Granted, might get a bit cozy in our Toyota Corolla...). PM me. -- Gary |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Carly Date: 29 Sep 04 - 06:45 PM We're coming, we're coming! I'll talk to you, Charlie, about extra housing and rides before and after. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: bigchuck Date: 29 Sep 04 - 06:57 PM Ok, Ok, Charlie, I hear ya. My employer just cleared my time off, so I'll mail mine out tomorrow. Sandy |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Susan A-R Date: 29 Sep 04 - 08:26 PM Drat!! Why do we have to wait two weeks? I Wanna go NOW! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: KT Date: 29 Sep 04 - 09:52 PM Ebbie and I are arriving in DC on Wednesday night and will have all day Thursday to play. Those of you who live in the area.....any suggestions for what we should NOT miss? Two weeks left!! KT |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Bobert Date: 29 Sep 04 - 11:27 PM Ahhhhh, if yer into art, the Hirshorn Gallery at the Smith Sonian... They have a lot of Matisse sculture, a DuBuffet, Henry Moore, Caravieggio, ect.... The National Gallery? Music? Hey, its pot luck and most of the good stuff is in small joints in the suburbs... Ahhhh, what are ya' intersted in seein'? Bobert |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Bill D Date: 29 Sep 04 - 11:27 PM what not to miss?..oh, my...there are a dozen museums on the mall, any one of which you could spend a month in! Do those in the morning... and the folk music area of the Library of Congress is not too far away. Do that in the afternoon. then in your spare time..... |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Big Mick Date: 29 Sep 04 - 11:39 PM I agree with every one of those suggestions. The hot ticket right now is the Museum of the American Indian (hate that name). But if you have never been in the Capitol before, I must tell you that you need to walk into the Rotunda and spend an hour or so. I have been to DC so many times, usually on lobbying stuff for the Union, that I get a bit jaded. But one simply cannot walk into that Rotunda and not get a chill. Mick |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Micca Date: 30 Sep 04 - 06:07 AM And, of course there is the soiree at Chance Fortunato's in Silver Spring (PM Fortunato for info)in the evening of the Thursday!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Midchuck Date: 30 Sep 04 - 07:50 AM Copy of e-Mail to Dennis Cook, this morning: My wife, Kristina Cady, and I have sent in deposits for the Getaway. After a great deal of thought and discussion, we have concluded, with extreme regret, that there are so many other demands on our time and energy at that point in time, that it isn't possible for us to make the trip, and we will not be sending in the rest of the money. If it were only 4 or 5 hours drive, instead of 8 or 10.... I don't know whether you give refunds at this point, or not. If you do, keep it and buy beer for those attending. If the liquor laws forbid that, buy ice cream and doughnuts. Thank you for your help. Peter and Kristina Cady Pittsford, VT Damn. Peter. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Tinker Date: 30 Sep 04 - 08:06 AM Double Damn ! I really wanted to meet you guys. Maybe next year ??? Please???? Mummble, mumble, hope everything is okay out your way , but..... tinker(who will miss meeting you) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Big Mick Date: 30 Sep 04 - 08:43 AM Peter, this just sucks!!! I was so looking forward to seeing you again. Is there no chance? Mick |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: MMario Date: 30 Sep 04 - 08:48 AM buggerit! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: kendall Date: 30 Sep 04 - 09:33 AM Those of you who know the Cadys know what you will be missing. Those of you who don't know them are spared the disappointment of not meeting them. All I can add is:*^)%^&$#&^*#$@*&^%*&, and to quote my father, SHITAGODDAMN. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Jeri Date: 30 Sep 04 - 09:51 AM Peter, it's a heck of a thing for you to have to give up an entire weekend of music and camraderie because of the time on the road. I had to leave on Sunday morning one year, and I really missed that day's music. We need Star Trek type transporters! I'll miss you both, and I'm sure everyone who's met you will too. People who haven't yet had the pleasure will miss the chance. (Except the Chance who's hosting the Thurdsday night thing.) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Nancy King Date: 30 Sep 04 - 12:03 PM Yup, Jeri -- I firmly believe the next big scientific breakthrough has GOT to be teleportation. Well, Peter, I sure hope you can make it next year! El Greko, I would be happy to pick you up at BWI if you don't want to wait for Gary. Let's see, 16:15 is 4:15 in time-I-can-understand, and 17:30 is 5:30. That's the middle of rush hour, of course, but one can make allowance for that -- I should be able to show up there at about 5 p.m. I have a station wagon, and could probably accommodate two people and their stuff (within reason), so anyone else who needs a ride from BWI about that time should PM me, and we'll work it out. Nancy |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: jacqui.c Date: 30 Sep 04 - 12:14 PM Peter - that is so disappointing. I was really looking forward to seeing you and Kris again. Ah well, that just means we'll have to come and visit you at some point, doesn't it. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Ferrara Date: 30 Sep 04 - 01:34 PM Peter, as I read your post I just thought "OUCH!!!" So sorry to hear that. Rita |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: GUEST,LynnT Date: 30 Sep 04 - 03:10 PM Looks like I'll be able to come this year again after all -- last year was my first time back after years away, and it was as if I'd never left! And I SOOO enjoyed having Alaska Mike and Tawmee camped out in my driveway for several days after-- we had a marvelous time in Annapolis crashing Seamus (sp?) Kennedy's gig there. I apologize for being such a sucky correspondent, Mike! If somebody needs a ride up Friday, coming back Sunday evening, I'll be happy to oblige. I live in Lanham MD near the New Carrollton metro (which is also an AMTRAK station), and I drive a Corolla wagon that can hold vast quantities of things and people. My plans Friday are flexible, but we'll need to leave room in the car for several plants, both ways -- I'll be ducking out of the Getaway for a few hours Saturday afternoon to go to a Plant Exchange the other side of Baltimore, should be back for dinner -- anyone want anything in particular? I know I'll have several Gladwin Irises to swap... What kind of liquor d'you want me to put in the Killer Fudge Sauce this year? Last year it was Cointreau in one batch, Frangelico in the other... Lynn |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Alaska Mike Date: 30 Sep 04 - 05:18 PM LYNN!!! Its great to know you will be back. Having not heard from you in so long, I thought maybe you had been devoured by mutant, flesh eating show mice. Bring lots of Killer Fudge Sauce. I couldn't believe how tasty that stuff was last year. After the jar broke, we had to suck the last remnants off the shards, but we managed to do it without bleeding to death. I wasn't about to throw any of it away. I will be bringing some Alaska smoked salmon once again. People seemed to enjoy it last year and I've got plenty of fish in the freezer. Only 2 weeks to go!! Whoopie!!! Mike |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Susan A-R Date: 30 Sep 04 - 09:13 PM Bother!! Woodchucks, I just invested in cheap airline tickets because the trip, followed by sleep deprivation, followed by more travel was a bad idea. Check out Independence Air out of Burlington Puleeze!!!!!! (I know it's still expensive, but so is gas and wear and tear and missing folk music and . . . . ) Don't leave me Aloooooone! Susan A-R from VT |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: KT Date: 01 Oct 04 - 12:48 AM Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! WE'LL be the tourists for a change! A Thursday soiree? Ya think there's a chance he'd let us in? |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: Micca Date: 01 Oct 04 - 03:04 AM Well, KT you are a personal Friend!!! so I think it is possible!! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2004 From: jacqui.c Date: 01 Oct 04 - 03:55 AM Smoked salmon? Mike - you're my friend already! |
