Gilly, even almost a third of Democrats are casting about regarding an alternative to Biden. I wouldn't rule out 24 as a year of dark horses if Trump doesn't get the nod.

Way too simplistic. The racism-based slavery we think of today as slavery (excluding what we call modern slavery for a minute) was non-existent in biblical times. Slavery in the Roman Empire was a complicated setup in which you could be "promoted" or buy your way out. And just because "the Bible never condemns" this, that or the other doesn't mean it condones it. There is no mention by Jesus in the gospels of slavery but I would strongly argue that the sentiments contained in his teachings are at odds with the abuse and exploitation of fellow human beings. And I'm an atheist, thank God.

That's why I used the words 'never condemns'. When the bible does mention slaves it says you may murder another man's slave if he kills your slave. btw slaves were often from different countries and religions.

I remember the Fonz from the show Happy Days. America has had a love affair regarding the 'bad boy'. Even Al Capone was beloved by many.

Fonz was an act, not really a bad boy. Read Trump's niece's book about his youth - it's good background on the man today. He came from a family of broken and dreadful parents. If he hadn't also been a sociopath he could have been closer to normal like some of his siblings.

The news this morning has everything abuzz in Atlanta, and a few people have acknowledged the receipt of subpoenas to appear before this most recent Grand Jury. This week and next are blocked out for Something To Happen.

A clip from Morning Joe has Scarborough talking about Trump's game - it is essentially Tu Quoque - Whataboutism - they keep trying to point fingers at Hillary and at Hunter and say "but her emails" and "his computer" and there is nothing there. Right now there is another Grand Jury empaneled in Washington, D.C., and a hearing by Friday called by a judge in the earlier case, inquiring into the nature of that GJ, to determine if it is overlapping what has already been covered. The talking heads discussing it assure listeners that Jack Smith has a separate investigation going. We may learn more at the time of that hearing.

What is a super majority? It is a very old threshold for approval.
In a US jury it is 100% or unanimous. In Congress, there are 2 thirds or 3 fifths super majorities depending on the issue.
Hamilton and Madison saw the evil that could lead to minority rule and not fairness.

We usually think in terms of a simple 50 + majority in elections.

I see States like FL using super majority for minority rule.

They tried to do it in Ohio last night and failed.

Two separate parties indicated on Saturday news shows that they have subpoenas requiring their Grand Jury testimony appearances on Tuesday morning. There are general notifications of an upcoming appearance and then there is the one telling them when or where that is issued 48 hours ahead (or two working days).

Fani Willis is moving quickly today; a witness (journalist) originally subpoenaed for tomorrow morning was brought in this afternoon instead. And Trump is making statements about who should or shouldn't testify. The former LT. Governor is called for tomorrow. Sounds like he has some real dirt on Trump.

Trump might not be able to get bail in Georgia. The rules say a defendant can get bail only if they aren’t a risk to intimidate witnesses or obstruct justice.

It's true I was out ahead of the Trump saga but so were Bill Mahre and many others.

At this point, the Trump legal team will need 4 hits in a row which ain't easy. What remains to be seen is a sentence of house arrest or jail. A violent narcissist requires others to do violence on his behalf. There is bound to be another Rittenhouse out there who may affect the election in the worst way.

Not sure what the earlier document was. I suspect someone in the clerk's office got ahead of things. A reporter in the brief press conference last night asked Willis about it, said it was identical. Willis said she doesn't know about the functioning of the website in the clerk's office and wasn't going to try to answer that question. Someone may have been testing putting up the document in anticipation of the outcome later that evening (I suspect the first version wasn't signed yet?)

With my imagination, I can see another high tech coup with Russain help using AI Deep fakes and network and cable hacking.

Yesterday I stumbled upon content for an individual who is liberal on environmental issues but contrarily conservative on politics. The content of his social media accounts is off-putting, and I noticed yesterday there is a four-plus minute screed going around with Trump announcing that as soon as he's re-elected he'll appoint a special council to investigate Biden for all of his election shenanigans. Trump telegraphs to the world what he's doing by accusing his opponents of the same thing.

There was an article on the Web some years ago about some picture-mutating AI stunt, where a group took certain politicians' pictures, and imposed on them a particular horror magazine's drawing style. The one of Theresa May proved their point; what surprised me was that with the one they did of The Donald, I couldn't tell the difference from how he normally looks.
